Manwell Pablo Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 Jesus Christ some of the comments in this thread Before I go any further I'm in favour of standing There would be no change in "rules" if you were all made to sit down, that's currently the rule, you're all just allowed to get away with it due to the Agro making you do otherwise would cause, same with every all seater regardless of the of what division your teams playing its football in so getting promoted wouldn't make a jot of difference.
sylofox Posted 28 December 2013 Posted 28 December 2013 These actions are triggered if the local authority (forced by the government SGSA regulations) write to the club. The national regulators issued a statement last month that appears to turn up the pressure on the prem and the championship to get standing uner control again. At the back are examples of how clubs should be managing persistent standing: http://www.flaweb.org.uk/sites/default/files/publications/standing-in-seated-areas-2013.pdf Based on this I don't believe the club will try to eradicate standing in L1, standers in this block are least vulnerable to action, especially at the top. Seems like a hardcore of standing can be tolerated. Agree that the front rows might be vulnerable and more so in K and J blocks (and SK1/N1) Seems like the club will really need to properly announce their intention to reduce standing before using CCTV and ticket deactivation etc. The local authority can also impose seat restrictions (close sections of seating) on the club to beef up the enforcement. A totally depressing read and coupled with that recent parliamentary debate we need a change in government before anything moves forward with safe standing. The FL/FA can consult on standing until they're blue in the face but the Tories continue to despise traditional football fans with a passion. I'm clear that the club has no say in this, whether they support standing is irrelevant, the politicians and civil servants are calling the shots on this. Read the laws nothing to do with tories or now labour grow up. The laws were made yrs before our pressent government. The laws make the club responsible for people to sit. If people don't the club is responsible not the law.

Thanks for the link; you are right, this does make for depressing reading. God knows how many academics and quango types there are out there, spending our ticket money trying to counter a few people still trying to watch the game in what I'd call a natural manner. Despite all the research and attempts to justify their suppression tactics, the report does actually state : "The absence of serious safety incidents (such as falls leading to breaks, concussions etc.) has meant that real world studies are of limited use – except to say that over a long period of time and thousands of matches, persistent standing in seated areas has not generated any serious incidents". Who is it that really needs educating?

If anybodies maturity needs questioning then I'd start with our current government. So it's nothing to do with the parliamentary debate or the joint statement LAST MONTH in which the present Tory government offered no evidence yet categorically rejected safe standing trials, let me repeat - THE CURRENT GOVERNMENT...
L1HT Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 This story comes out every single year, and every single year nothing happens
The Quick Brown Fox Posted 29 December 2013 Posted 29 December 2013 Why not try and organise a mass silent protest? Every one still goes to the game, just sit down and not make a sound. Show the bosses that it's l1 that makes the majority of the noise?

Show the bosses that it's l1 that makes the majority of the noise? A silent protest? A bit like a mass sulk. That should make the powers that be sit up and take notice.

Show the bosses that it's l1 that makes the majority of the noise? its bad enough withouit being silent. lets face it . lcfc do not give a sh!t about the atmosphere. they just want familys in there who will pay. a big part of lcfc died when we moved grounds, it will only get worse. I dont go down much due to this...as lets face it...home games are pretty sh!t, everyone knows. modern football- the death of football.
Bert Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 100% won't happen. Same won't be said for an N block.
C-man Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 100% won't happen. Same won't be said for an N block. Good news. I guess it has always been pretty obvious that the club don't want standing in N Block.
Lobsterboyuk Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Good news. I guess it has always been pretty obvious that the club don't want standing in N Block. The club's hands are tied in this ultimately by the wishes of the SGSA who are only prepared to tolerate very small sections of standing (I.e. Top of L1)
jock2612 Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 What about if we are in the prem? Are the rules different, as in stricter and we are more likely to get fined for standing? The last time I saw Liverpool play the whole of the Kop was standing,if they can so can we!!!
lestajigs Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Everton, west brom, hull, Man U, stoke, is just a few of the top of the top of me head that defo have a section of prem clubs that stand
purpleronnie Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 The last time I saw Liverpool play the whole of the Kop was standing,if they can so can we!!! When was that ? Everytime I watch them unless its a huge game you cant even see the standers in the Kop. The first 20 or so rows always sit thesedays its one of the few grounds where standing seems to have decreased. Everton, west brom, hull, Man U, stoke, is just a few of the top of the top of me head that defo have a section of prem clubs that stand Everton and stoke? Are you sure? They seem to have the least out of all the premiership sides.
AndWhat? Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 West Ham must have the most standers in England, both bottom tiers behind the goal stand every game. Standing has increased dramatically over the last 10 years, I remember being at Reading away in the FA cup back in 05? and I must have been 1 of literally only 20 Leicester fans standing. Anfield seems to be the only ground where standing is decreasing.
LCFC FOX Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 N blockers should hopefully move to SK1 next season. We pretty much know our time is up. We tried to help out with the atmosphere but we just got shot down
ithuriel Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 The football club are being painted as the enemy here when really they are not. The league has a set of rules that all clubs must enforce. I did a little stewarding in the away section a few years ago and one of the questions brought up was drinking on the terrace. The head guy in charge of stewarding actually said it was a rule that was in need of updating since peeps drink in in the terraces during rugby matches etc., but until the league altered the rules, they had to be enforced. The standing rule is a league rule and the club are obliged to enforce it or suffer consequences. The club actually does let a lot pass since they could just get very heavy handed and eject/ban peeps but it also comes down to who the steward is and what you say to them. Three guys nearly got banned in A1 a few years ago for making sickening sexual references to a female steward, I was no longer a steward but was watching the match with my mates and thought they got off lightly with the way they were acting, think the girl quit after that since I have not seen her since then.
Lionheart Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Would love to see a victory for the 'small man in the street' but unfortunately think if they really want to stop standing they will even at the expense of the atmosphere.

The club can turn a blind eye though if they wanted. Man city and Cardiff have come out and said they will not be telling people to sit down because they basically don't agree with the current rules. And guess whats happened to them..... absolutely nothing.
ithuriel Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 Man City and Cardiff are in the Prem, fines mean nothing at that level with the money they make and the Prem has its own rules . One thing I see peeps getting mixed up over in this thread is that these are not laws but rules the club is forced to follow by the football league So long as you do not get abusive or lay hands on anyone you are not breaking any law by standing, just football league rules so always be mindful what you say to peeps if asked to sit down.
C-man Posted 1 January 2014 Posted 1 January 2014 I am yet to see any punishment dished out to any club for effectively allowing people to stand. Cardiff have even encouraged it at one end of their stadium. Ground closures? Stand closures? Fines? Absolutely zilch. What I am saying is the club's hands are not tied very tightly, if at all.

Long may it continue but the problem is that the statement released in November is ominous and those punishments are lurking. Stood for another 90 minutes today and not even close to being in peril at any point

No they mustn't. What the fvck are the league going to do if people are standing at a match? Bugger all. Fans stand at all grounds around the country. Any suggestion that the club have their hands tied is pure bullshit. They're just a bunch of bastards who hate that they can't completely control the fans in the stadium.
