Crinklyfox Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 We have a good team and so long as they don't think that they are a million miles better than any other team in the league, take every match seriously and are prepared to put a shift in we have a decent chance this season. Living and working in Sussex quite a few of my work colleagues are Brighton supporters, they weren't very impressed with our performance at the Amex - we didn't appear to have the desire that day. If we can avoid off days like that then we'll be there or thereabouts in May.
ithuriel Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Other managers quotes, plaudits etc., are welcome but essentially mean nothing. Points on the board and promotion plus decent football are what is required and the job is half way done and could easily be fulfilled or unravel. Time for this team to really show what it is made of now since other teams will up their game and for the peeps behind the team in regards to contract talks and team strengthening to show they know what they are doing. If we were to implode again and fail in the play offs it would be very hard to take.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 If we can take the next two games, we may possibly have a seven point lead, which really would split the pack, and truly put us in a position that other teams would struggle to catch. Ifs and buts of course, but food for thought.
ScouseFox Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 If he replaced "division" with "world" i'd take him more seriously though

Kitchandro Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 On paper Bolton have bigger names but that doesn't mean they're actually better players. I wouldn't have Pratley over Drinky or James. I wouldn't have Eagles over Knocky. I wouldn't have either of their centre backs over our 2. I don't think Beckford has been any better than Nugent since he left Everton. I'd have Mark Davies back though. I do agree we are a better team than we are on paper - I don't think we have many special players. None of our strikers are scoring a lot of goals, our wingers are raw and inconsistent, and our full backs aren't some of the best in the league. But we do have a very good balance and pass the ball well. We are patient but can up the tempo, and we keep trying to do the right thing more often than not. Having said that, we have the odd very talented player, and plenty of solid ones.
Bayfox Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Totally agree. When you look at their starting eleven today, then the bench (Eagles, Mason, Pratley, Davies) and also Holden when fit, that squad should be top six contenders, if not top two if Burnley and Derby can be up there. names dont make teams. What we have is a close knit squad who look like they get on. Pearson shipped out the ones who he thought made life difficult. When we score the players all look genuinely pleased for each other. Remember 66 and a lad called jimmy greaves. Lost his spot and the TEAM became better. Davies is the only player from bolton I'd take anywhere near our team. mills is over rated. Beckford lazy. Eagles living of a decent season how long ago and pratley by name. Ffs leaving swansea went well.

We know more than most having talented individuals gets you nowhere, you need a team. Under Sven we had some of the leagues best and loaned in some quality but not once did we get into the top six.

Freedman has a lot of names that many clubs would want and needs the skills and abilities to get the best out of them, which he currently isn't doing.

Or the players!!!!
Merging Cultures Posted 30 December 2013 Posted 30 December 2013 Great point mate, please know that I am here for you if you feel ignored. This just made me laugh out loud and wake the baby. Now I'm in trouble! Hilarious!

It's not that easy, People on here said Pearson had a great team to come back to. I think he'd disagree strongly there.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 I always start to worry when other managers say how good we are. It's the kiss of death!
casablancas Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 We're not consistent enough for me to believe that. But on days like today then we're definitely up there as one of the best teams. This season has been amazing so far. We're consistently winning games that we would not have won last seadon. I do not get your point. Sorry.
Corky Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 It's not that easy, People on here said Pearson had a great team to come back to. I think he'd disagree strongly there. Pearson and Freedman had a roughly similar length of time in their first season with the clubs, Pearson took us to 5th by the New Year after his first summer, Bolton are 18th. Freedman has had two transfer windows to get the squad he wanted and he's not performing well enough.
5waller5 Posted 31 December 2013 Posted 31 December 2013 The own goal wasn't on target from us It's a good point!!

Ask a fan of a PL side who doesn't take much notice of the Football league and I think he'd only recognise Nugent, Schmeichel and Konchesky at best.
