I'd much prefer to spend a bit of money (if that is the reported fee) and sign someone of this guys international and continental pedigree with a good track record than sign Kevin Phillips - however proven and consistent he is - who is aged 40 and we will get about 5 months out of. Our owners don't want to give out long term contracts till the summer. Other than KP nearly all will want 3yrs.

But mid/low table ligue 1 to top end championship with prem ambitions is about the right step up imo. It could be a career defining move for this guy and a real coup for us.

He's been playing Ligue 2 for most of his career which isn't the best standard and only really started scoring goals last year. He's 26 as well so whilst he can still improve, that will have a significant impact on his value. Plus the mention of him being out of contract at the end of the season means that anything above £1 million is a decent deal in terms of finance for Nantes.

This - his contract is up soon too so I'll be he's deffo off to somewhere like England. I'd be completely shocked if city got him though, I've heard hull have been in for him for a while too
