Danno Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Svens team who never got into the top 6? Go to bed mate.
Naylor118 Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Naughton was easily the best player of the Sven era, I have no clue how anybody could suggest otherwise. Not as good as Fernandes. I'd go as far to say he's the best individual talent i've seen in the Championship since our return.
Jollie Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 The best player in Sven's era was Gelson Fernandes. Yet he's not even mentioned?! pretty much spot on this...after he left us he went on to help Udinese to CL places that season (i think)
Fox92 Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 I prefer Nigel's team. I prefer Nigel as manager. Always have done, always will do.
jimmer Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 That "Svens" team of yours never played together did they? Konch, Kasper, Beckford, Danns & Mills came in the year after Yakubu, naughton & Bamba did they not? So surely you have to compare the sven's gamble on promotion loanee side, or the following team when he actually had time and money to buy his promotion winning squad (of which was even worse!).Neither team are a patch on what we have now. Not even close. In fact this thread is to be frank, ridiculous!
Banks Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 I'd want Naughton and maybe Yak, but in ways I wouldn't. Pearson has built a hardworking side, none of the players who play have egos and all want to do well for the club. Well done NP.
LCFC FOX Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Ricardo Naughton Vitor Mee Van Aanholt Vassel Abe King Dyer Yakubu Kamara would be a good game to watch
indierich06 Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 ----------------Kasper------------- Naughton----Mills-----Bamba----Konchesky -----------------Abe------------------ ----------Danns-------Wellens---------- ----------------King------------------- ---------Yakubu--------Beckford--------- vs ------------------Kasper--------------- De Laet-----Morgan-----Moore-----Konchesky Knocky-----James-----Drinkwater----Dyer--- ------------Vardy-----Nugent------------- How would it pan out? What are the major differences? I think Svens midfield would pass circles around James and Drinkwater. Yakubu would probably have run Moore in particular all over the place. 2-1 to Leicester IMO A midfield with Neil Danns in it won't be passing circles around anyone.
Fox92 Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 I think Svens midfield would pass circles around James and Drinkwater. Yakubu would probably have run Moore in particular all over the place. 2-1 to Leicester IMO Really? Is there a lazier strike force than Yakubu and Beckford? (And I was a massive Yak fan, he is a natural finisher).
Thracian Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Playing as they did against Derby, I'd back Pearson's team anytime. Yes, Yakubu could cause problems for any defence on his day and King's goal touch from midfield used to be a valuable asset but, generally, the current side is better balanced. faster, more potent, and has a lot fewer weaknesses
Guest Bilo Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 My opinion is that Yakubu and Beckford would give our current back four a good run for their money, but the current midfield would win the battle in the middle of the park with something to spare. Vardy and Nugent would wreak havoc against Mills and Bamba if the ball was played into feet, and it's odds on that Mills would lunge into Vardy and give away a penalty. King would find it tough to win the ball in midfield against James and Drinkwater and could let his head drop. The most interesting battle would be Knockaert vs Naughton, Naughton's pace balanced against Knockaert's excellence on the ball would be well worth a watch. My opinion is that the current side would win a high scoring game. Leicester (2011) 1 - Yakubu Leicester (2013) 3 - Nugent (pen), Dyer, Vardy
EnglishOxide Posted 12 January 2014 Author Posted 12 January 2014 Svens team who never got into the top 6? Go to bed mate. Sorry. Just thought id start an interesting thread. I wont bother in future and you can stick to talking about the ****ing atmosphere. ****.
Vlad the Fox Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Yep, he'd be the only one. Wouldn't have the lazy bastard Yakubu ahead of Nugent. As if he'd be able to form a partnership like Vardy and Nuge have. He'd just decide he wasn't interested half the time. Nugent hasn't been as energetic as he used to be but Yak, christ. I can't understand why, when people are seeing evidence of how important hard work is, they'd call for Yakubu. Totally agree with this. A massive part of our game is the work Nugent and Vardy do harassing and closing down, working hard to defend from the top, Vardy's goal against derby a prime example of Nugent's hard work. Put yakubu in and that's gone, teams then start to settle on the ball.
Vardinhio Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Kyle Naughton surely? No I genuinely believe De Laet is more effective going forward
Devonfox1884 Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Naughton plays left-back a lot for spurs nowerdays... If i had to choose a sven-pearson hybrid team, it would be... Kasper (both) De Laet (NP) Morgan (NP) Moore (NP) Naughton (sven) Knocky (NP) Drinky (NP) James (NP) Dyer (both but NP has made him the player he is.) Nugent (both) Vardy (NP) Nige has clearly put together a much better team than sven did.
Simonb Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Put some money on that scoreline, you can't lose.....what happens if its a draw
LCFC_FAN_1995 Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Say what you want about Sven but thats still a very good side Yeah it did very well didn't it
Jobyfox Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 It irks me slightly when people rate our past players on what they've achieved elsewhere rather than how they played for us. People might say, for example, that Cleverly was a great loan signing, but I think he was only ok-ish for us unlike Davies who was brilliant. Beckford was incredibly average for us, but is still rated by reputation. Gelson F may be a good player. He may have done things elsewhere, but for us he only had the odd good game. Unlike Naughton who was brilliant for us and got in the Championship team of the year and also won our young player of the year (I think). For me Naughton was the best player Sven ever signed!
ousefox Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Gelson Fernandes playing well for us is an absolute myth. He had one DECENT game against Cov (he wasn't even incredible that day) and didn't do anything memorable in any other games apart from give his shirt away at the end. Pearson wouldn't have got rid if he was the incredible world beater some people seem to think he was.

LCFC FOX Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 Danns did better in CM than Gelson that season
LCCFox96 Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 I don't think Yakubu has ever run anybody 'all over the place' My thoughts entirely.

He came here with a good reputation, maybe that's what is confusing some people. He started well and had some ok games, but he was an absolute fvcking donkey half the time. I loved Naughton, he was easily the best right back in the league at the time. Hard working, quick, solid, scored goals (wasn't it 6?), assisted, he was almost a second winger. Not as good as Fernandes my arse. He was streets ahead. It's a shame he's often been a left back since then because played in his best position I think he'd be pulling up more trees in the Prem.
Dan Posted 12 January 2014 Posted 12 January 2014 I think Pearson's side would beat them in a high scoring game. 5-2.
