GLC Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 So we've all been wanting a striker who can score 20 goals a season and it looks like we could have one Nugent - 15 - Scored vast amount of penalties but they all count and they've helped win games. Vardy - 8 - He has stepped up and looks like a Championship player and perfect partner for Nugent this season. I can see Nugent scoring above 20 easily this season and hopefully Vardy can score 15+ TBH, it's good to feel confident in a strike force again. Signing Phillips, Who can score and help set up goals, as well as the odd player chipping in with a few (Knockaert has 4 and Dyer has 8) is a massive boost. I'm quietly feeling confident
Bert Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 Nugent shouldn't have any excuses to not hit 20 in the league this season.
Monsell1976 Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 Nugent shouldn't have any excuses to not hit 20 in the league this season.I think he will do it with ease, the only thing that will stop him will be injuries.
Kyle_Le_Don Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 I think he will do it with ease, the only thing that will stop him will be injuries. Or No more penos?
The Doctor Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 Or No more penos? Half of his goals this season have come from penalties, and he's already got as many from open play this month as he needs in the next 4 months to reach 20. It's not like he's not scoring from open-play at all. This whole criticise him because he's scoring penalties is absurd: remember Knocks penalty last May? Or Kermorgant & Waghorn 3 years ago? Or Dickov against Man City in April of our last prem season? Putting away a penalty is not a formality like people are acting.
Babylon Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 We've said this for the last three years and his form usually plummets and he doesn't get a sniff... hopefully it's the reverse this year!!
Bettsj2 Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 We've said this for the last three years and his form usually plummets and he doesn't get a sniff... hopefully it's the reverse this year!! Main difference this year is his form up until Christmas was pretty poor (general play not goal return). Now though he's looking sharp and the Nugent we all know. I would be astonished if he didnt hit 20 goals this year.
The Blur Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 Who would have thought at the start of the season that Dyer would outscore Knocky by the time we reached January transfer window?
Babylon Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 Who would have thought at the start of the season that Dyer would outscore Knocky by the time we reached January transfer window? Me... knockaert's shooting is almost worse than Dyers.
Hungry Hungry Fox Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 Me... knockaert's shooting is almost worse than Dyers. You mad?
Fox92 Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 I said on all those threads where Nugent got slated that he can score 20(+) this season. Hope he does, terrific player. Vardy could easily get between 10 and 15 as well. He's come on leaps and bounds this year.
LCFC FOX Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 Chris Wood would easily be a 20+ goal striker I think if playing often
Kyle_Le_Don Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 Half of his goals this season have come from penalties, and he's already got as many from open play this month as he needs in the next 4 months to reach 20. Would just be nice to see a real 20 goal a season striker step up without so many penos. Who knows could still be Nugent quite easily.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 If Nugent can hit another 5 to reach 20 and Vardy, Wood & Phillips can hit 15 between them then we'll go up...
AKCJ Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 Nugent shouldn't have any excuses to not hit 20 in the league this season. We said this last season
Kyle_Le_Don Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 If Nugent can hit another 5 to reach 20 and Vardy, Wood & Phillips can hit 15 between them then we'll go up... WOW that's made me confident! No pun intended
Out Foxed Posted 20 January 2014 Posted 20 January 2014 WOW that's made me confident! No pun intended what's the pun?
LCCFox96 Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 Nuge will really grab the rest of this season by the scruff of the neck now. It will be his first 20 goal season so he will be determined to hit that or more. It will be a big milestone for him. Whatever anyone says about his performances/ the penalties-open play thing, he has scored some big goals for us this year and has been the difference in many games. The turn and neat finish on Saturday, all be it very well complemented by Phillips dummy, was a composed and quality bit of striking. Here's to 20+ from Nugent.
indierich06 Posted 21 January 2014 Posted 21 January 2014 While it would certainly be nice, the suggestion that we need a 20 goal striker to go up is completely erroneous. Look at the teams who've gone up in recent years - Reading, Hull and Cardiff just off the top of my head - where were their 20-goal-a-season men? Of course there's Glen Murray of Palace last year (But according to most, half of his goals won't count because they were pens) and the Sharp/Lambert combo at Southampton a couple of years back, but there are plenty of teams who've gone up without relying on one striker to fire them there. In fact, if you look at some of the top scorers in the league last season and this season, teams who have relied on the goals of one player haven't tended to do that well. Ross McCormack, Jordan Rhodes, Matej Vydra and Charlie Austin (when he was at Burnley) spring to mind. So while it would be great for Nugent to hit 20+, and I'd absolutely love it if he did, just thought I'd raise the point that it's not essential for us to gain promotion - of course, he'd have to go on a catastrohpic run from now to the end of the season to not reach it. The key is for the whole team to keep performing at a high level. That's what will see us over the line.
FilbostreetPen1 Posted 24 January 2014 Posted 24 January 2014 Good article here on the value of David Nugent : http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/brian-reade-column-david-nugent-3052165
Bert Posted 24 January 2014 Posted 24 January 2014 We said this last season Yeah, but last season he went through a shit patch and wasn't taking any penalties.
MPH Posted 24 January 2014 Posted 24 January 2014 We've said this for the last three years and his form usually plummets and he doesn't get a sniff... hopefully it's the reverse this year!! We've also said for the last three years that Dyer has a crap winter and comes good once the weather warms up! Tis the season of change!!!
