I'd rather play Romania than Serbia

Serbia have had their purple patch.

Yes, he's Swiss.

Thank you.

To use DanLCFC's little line, "Imagine if.."

Imagine if you were more bothered about the English national side than your own? lol

Obsessed.

To be fair, he is posting on an English board for fans of an English club where most of the members are English, support the English national team (to various degrees), and tend to focus discussion on international football competitions around England.

He'll be saying that you're obsessed with England in a minute.

"Uncle Albert in not realizing the "ignore" function exists" shocker. lol I don't see all your posts, you know. Selective reading and all that.

Btw, if you haven't noticed by now, I do like football.

As for the European tournament in France in two years time, it remains to be seen whether my country can maintain its current level. Something tells me that if we don't find a few decent strikers, the post-2014WC honeymoon will be over sooner than expected. And the recent rise in rankings will just turn out to have been a fluke.

So there a group of 4 (France can't qualify) where there's 2 automatic qualifying spots and a play-off place?

I wouldn't mind that group lol.

I am bit lost if anyone thinks France being in qualifications gives them an unfair advantage? They would have played friendlies anyway and all this non match practice argument is not really valid as traditionally hosts tend to do well if they are capable enough. Even Sweden and South Korea did well when they were hosts.

Do people want Gibraltar because they should be easily beatable or because it's a nice day out or because we can sing songs together about Spain?

Or all three?

Nope, I wouldn't say so tbh! I wouldn't say that we're too far off being one of the best sides in Pot 3. All depends how the players react to the disastrous qualifying campaign last time around. A new manager to come in and some players reaching their peak now with a lot of things to prove on the international level. There is definitely a solid base there to work from, with, dare I say it, arguably (one of) the best defences in the world. Ivanovic - Subotic - Nastasic - Kolarov with the likes of Bisevac and Rajkovic as cover. Good set of midfielders with good holding players in Matic, Fejsa and Kuzmanovic with some good young attacking talent in Djuricic, Tadic, Tosic, Sulejmani. Just a shame that all the keepers would struggle at Championship level and none of the strikers are really experienced enough or good enough. Markovic at Benfica and Mitrovic at Anderlecht are two very good striker prospects but both are only 19! We'll see but I certainly think we'll compete better than we did for the World Cup qualifying campaign.

On paper, this side would be more than comfortable against a lot of the top European teams:

Brkic

Ivanovic - Subotic - Nastasic - Kolarov

Kuzmanovic - Matic

Basta - Duricic - Tosic

Mitrovic

Not saying Serbia are rubbish by any stretch. Just that their purple patch is over.

Decent Group: England, Hungary, Norway/Poland, Estonia, Moldova/Northern Ireland, San Marino/Andorra/Gibraltar

Potential Tough Group: England, Belgium, Serbia/Turkey, Bulgaria/Scotland, Albania/Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan

As a Northern Ireland fan, there is something seriously wrong if England don't qualify from this format.

The only thing its built for is to give second tier teams, such as the rest of the home nations, a chance to qualify for a major tournament.

On a side note, I'm surprised Switzerland (bare of FIFA HQ) aren't in pot 1 given the blatantly easy groups they've finish top in recently, and that's not even taking into consideration the joke of a world cup group they got drawn in...

All you do is slate the English team, yet I don't think I have ever seen you post about the Swiss national side?

That's really funny because--and again, not to argue on his behalf--he actually wrote about the Swiss side in the exact post you just quoted.
