The Year Of The Fox Posted 27 January 2014 Posted 27 January 2014 The Sun say today they're 'accelerating' plans to renew his contract after becoming aware that top flight clubs will soon be sniffing round him. Let's get this wrapped up ASAP
sylofox Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 We should never have got to this point with nige or any of the players we want to keep.
RedSoxUK Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 We should never have got to this point with nige or any of the players we want to keep. This. Though I can see the positives in making the players / coaching staff work for their contracts - it may effect the next 15/20ish games if player/managers don't have any security. I'd bag on Leicester sorting most out before we reach 80 points.
Paulmot Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 I think FFP has contributed to the delay in renewing contracts. I think it has been handled just about spot on.
Iwan is a Welshman Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 The board have got this exactly right so far
foxfanazer Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Totally agree Iwan and Paulmot. Glad to see the owners have the clubs interests at heart. Would've been the easy option to see us doing well and offer the out of contract players/manager bumper deals. Also credit to Nige for detracting this speculation and uncertainty away. Imagine if this was happening at Forest! Billy Davies would be talking about it every week
Mickey O'Neil Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Can't see this bothering Mr. Smooth one single bit. He's so laid back. He knows he'd be picked up pretty sharpish should the worst ever happen.

Imagine if this was happening at Forest! Billy Davies would be talking about it every week He'd be using Wes Morgans Twitter account and flaky fawaz would be telling them they will be signing someone big tomorrow for them to wait and wait and wait speculating on which premier league star it is before it emerges that they couldn't agree personal terms with a Peterborough reserve team player.
CosbehFox Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Very surprised West Brom didn't ask the question when they needed a high coach. He knows most of the staff there, so would have been a seamless transition.
Kitchandro Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Very surprised West Brom didn't ask the question when they needed a high coach. He knows most of the staff there, so would have been a seamless transition. Yeh but his name isn't foreign enough.
lcfcsnow Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 We should never have got to this point with nige or any of the players we want to keep. Nige is on a million a year and should we be successful this year he gets another million bonus, and deservedly so. I wouldn't be bothered either, it's just the media making a big deal out of it for something to talk about as there's nothing on the field going wrong for once!
hackneyfox Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 I wouldn't offer any of them an extended contract until we know for sure we are promoted, or not.
MPH Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 I'm beginning to see that the reason Why we wiped out the debts when we did was not to spend millions in the transfer market but so we could start working on contracts as well. With contracts comes signing on fees and agent fees as well... Edit: terrible English!
StanSP Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Good news! Even though there's a few days left of the transfer window, this whole month has gone much better than expected!
Strokes Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 I wouldn't offer any of them an extended contract until we know for sure we are promoted, or not.I don't think I would either, unless it was obvious they would accept championship wages.
LanguedocFox Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Good news! Even though there's a few days left of the transfer window, this whole month has gone much better than expected! I don't want to put the mockers on this, but there are still three days left, and in that time we could lose Kasper, Knocky and Schlupp. I just hope the board - and Nigel - hold firm as they have done so far.

I think we'll manage to keep them though

I did acknowledge that there's still a few days left. I hope we hold out too.
Mark_w Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 I wouldn't offer any of them an extended contract until we know for sure we are promoted, or not. Whether we're promoted or not, Nigel Pearson is clearly taking the club forwards. He's built a good young side and there's clear progress, he's the best person to take us forward regardless of what division we're in next year. Giving him a new contract is a no-brainer.

That is one opinion, mine differs, I agree that at the moment there's clear progress, I don't believe we'll fail this time either, but should we miss out again I'd perhaps want a new manager.
Guest MattP Posted 28 January 2014 Posted 28 January 2014 Just hurry up and get it done. He is the best manager we have had for ages and clearly the best out there for us by a mile.
