Dan Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 I'm convinced Hodgson picks him so he can search his name on Twitter and sit back howling at the replies. It is a joke though. He's become the new Milner.
Leicesterpool Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 Tom Cleverley makes the squad for the Denmark game. I know yet neither Tom Huddlestone or Fabian Delph can make the team!? Also Adam Johnson been snubbed?! Also Chris Smailling I mean really? what's he done to be picked!
Guest MattP Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 Smalling and Cleverley still get picked. This isn't going to change.

goose2010 Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 Smalling and Cleverley still get picked. This isn't going to change. Least Jones didnt, I would of gone for Barry over Cleverley and any other defender that's English over Smalling
Corky Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 Fabian Delph and Kevin Nolan?! You do know we're talking about England and not Wales? Mine was a response to Leicesterpool who wants Kevin Nolan to be called up. Thankfully Roy disagrees, like everyone else.
Manwell Pablo Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 I for once am not overly bothered who we take, I get the feeling we're going to be a pile knackers no matter who get's on the plane.
Dan Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 The nation's delighted with Cleverley being called up. That nation is Denmark.
Corky Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 Is Kasper in the Denmark squad (has it been announced yet)?
Uncle Albert Posted 27 February 2014 Author Posted 27 February 2014 Is Kasper in the Denmark squad (has it been announced yet)? Yeah he is.
Guest MattP Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 Least Jones didnt, I would of gone for Barry over Cleverley and any other defender that's English over Smalling I'd pick Trippier over Smalling.
Father Ted Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 Dawson or Lescott? I would take either of them over Smalling, Caulker or Shawcross. Jones made my squad purely on the fact he can play centre back, right back and the holding role. I would even take Jones as the second right back ahead of Kyle Walker (who has been shocking this season, even worse than Glen Johnson), to free taking an advanced player. That's exactly why Phil Jones should go too imo He provides good cover in 3 positions.
Uncle Albert Posted 27 February 2014 Author Posted 27 February 2014 That's exactly why Phil Jones should go too imo He provides good cover in 3 positions. Totally agree, Jones would be a certainty in my squad. Jermaine Defoe has made the squad? This really is where Roy Hodgson makes himself look stupid, says he will pick players who are in form for squads. Here is a list of players in the current squad who I wouldn't really consider in form: Ashley Cole Chris Smalling Glen Johnson Kyle Walker Tom Cleverley Michael Carrick Jermaine Defoe Danny Welbeck Obviously it would be hard to replace all 8 of them players BUT some players who also I would consider in form who haven't been included: Jon Flanagan Michael Dawson Tom Huddlestone (I know I slated him but he's better than Cleverley) Gareth Barry Aaron Lennon
kingfox Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 Who I would pick atm. Goalkeepers Joe Hart Ben Foster Fraser Forster Defenders Kyle Walker Glen Johnson Phil Jones Phil Jagielka Gary Cahill John Terry Leighton Baines Luke Shaw Midfielders Steven Gerrard Michael Carrick Jordan Henderson Frank Lampard James Milner Adam Lallana Raheem Sterling Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Strikers Wayne Rooney Daniel Sturridge Jermain Defoe Jay Rodriguez

Except Aaron Lennon hasn't been in the greatest form either but Adam Johnson should be in with a shout. Left back is the most interesting battle for me. Baines, Cole, Shaw, Gibbs (albeit he won't go now by the looks of it) - some serious depth there.
Pride_Of_The_Midlands Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 No place for the current Premier League Player of the Month...
RowlattsFox Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 To be fair, with the size of the squad cleverly and smalling were always going to be picked.
Langston Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 I always found Delph a bit of a comedy character but ask any Villa fan who their shining light has been this season in an otherwise dull campaign and (Guzan aside) a lot of people will mention Delph. He's really come on this year, I wouldn't take him, but I'd rather him than play bastarding Jones in midfield. I'd rather Roy take an out of form Carroll than an out of form Welbeck or Lambert. Who else we gonna take? We can't go to the World Cup with just Rooney and Sturridge. Carroll's different and foreign defences won't know what to do with him when he comes off the bench and bags the winner. In Samilktray's defence - Rodriguez is finding the net at a reasonable rate for Southampton....
Dan Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 When Barry & Huddleston miss out? I'd love to hear the justification for picking either of them. I don't like one player (Cleverley in this instance) being singled out by everyone but he has done absolutely nothing to deserve his spot there. On the flip side, Luke Shaw is in. Good news as he's one of our top youngsters although surprise surprise, he plays in the position we have the most covered.
Narborough_fox Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 If I was Roy I'd take a senior squad of 23 as well as around young players to get them used to a tournament experience, even if they aren't in the 23 man squad. Was listening to 5Live a while back and someone said his first tournament was the hardest because of how quick the turnaround of the matches was and staying in a hotel for 3 or 4 weeks.
Leicesterpool Posted 27 February 2014 Posted 27 February 2014 Delph as got some pace in that midfield, something England sometimes misses. Delph as been Villa's best player by miles this season. he as got more tricks than Cleverley. Can Cleverley do this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_txyH-nTYqE would also show his goal against West Brom but sadly there's no clip!
