Rincewind Posted 1 April 2014 Posted 1 April 2014 My sister is getting married on the 28th of June. she said it was during the knockout stage so probably won't miss England matches. She said the reception pub has a bar with a TV so could keep up to date if England do play on that day. Games are played at night. On Late Kick Off they were saying that poor facilities and lack of money could affect future England teams with players coming through. I have been saying this for ages. Top teams rely too much on foreign players. They should have a group of youth players and stick with them (barring lack of form) through under 16 to under 21 then full team. Also have the same coaching staff working together.

The biggest problem is our top flight flight is full of foreign managers as you say, at the moment there's only five english managers in the premier greed! Alot of these foreign only like to buy foreign players. This problem stretches of course to the other home nation sides most of the welsh, scotch and northern irish players play in the lower leagues.
Grandad. Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 No chance of me paying £90 or £60 for an England shirt, I really like the current England shirt anyway, that'll do.
Grandad. Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 Thought it summed up Hodgson on Sunday as well, anyone else notice he was at the Fulham Everton game? Who could he have been watching Barry, Barkley and Baines? Even though we already know Baines is a certainty and Barkley is also. So maybe he was watching Gareth Barry, because Fulham certainly haven't got any players who are in a position to be in a World Cup squad. So why didn't Roy the Boy go to Anfield? Where there was Naughton, Dawson, Rose, Lennon and Townsend for Spurs playing and Flanagan, Johnson, Sterling, Henderson, Gerrard and Sturridge were playing, eleven Englishmen. 6 of whom are pretty nailed on to go, why not go and see them play in a bigger match, see how the likes of title challengers Sterling, Henderson, Sturridge and Gerrard are playing under the big games. See who out of Townsend and Lennon should be going to Brazil, Roy can surely only take one of them, yet neither of them could get the better of two English full backs. Really doesn't add up at times, I know Roy will pretty much already have his 23 man squad and his back up players for that Portugal training camp but going to Fulham (oh wait, he's a hero there) was pretty stupid.

Maybe he's been watching those players before? Maybe he knew from those players who he's taking? Maybe he plans to watch them another week? Maybe he wanted to watch Barkley in particular? Not really sure how you can draw conclusions from him chosing to watch one match one week.

Would Hodgson benefit more in seeing Barkley play v Fulham or this Sunday v Arsenal? Surely the answer to that is Arsenal. Hodgson should be using his time now to watch as many games as he possibly can before deciding on the 30 men going to Portugal, I just think it would of been a lot more beneficial watching 11 English players all playing in the top 6 of the Premier League in what was a massive game for both sides, rather than 3 English lads for Everton playing against a poor side at the bottom of the League.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I just don't think you can judge him from that. Is there much point in watching a load of players if he already knows if he's taking them all or not. If he hasn't made his mind up about Barkely then it does make sense to watch him.

Barkley is going to Brazil, no doubt about that. My only gripe is why not go and see players like Lennon and Townsend, Lennon is starting over Townsend even though Spurs aren't performing great how can Hodgson know which one of them to take, if either? I have been saying it for a few months, how hasn't Jon Flanagan been mentioned? Does Hodgson already know he is going to take Walker as Johnson's replacement, again even though Walker isn't playing. Flanagan, playing really well for Liverpool who have won 8 straight games and top of the League. That isn't a reply to anything you've said, I just don't get the whole selection process for this 23 man squad. Bring back the Capello index.
Dan Posted 16 April 2014 Posted 16 April 2014 http://footballvita.co.uk/8-reasons-england-will-win-the-world-cup/1/ Good gracious. I don't even know where to start on some of that. A couple of good points (the conditions of the Italy game, Liverpool etc...) but other than that it really is some of the most stereotypical England nonsense I've read.
Manwell Pablo Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 http://footballvita.co.uk/8-reasons-england-will-win-the-world-cup/1/ Good gracious. I don't even know where to start on some of that. A couple of good points (the conditions of the Italy game, Liverpool etc...) but other than that it really is some of the most stereotypical England nonsense I've read. The Liverpool points is a decent one although the inclusion of Sterling and Henderson in the starting XI is a matter of debate and just because they can do it in the Premier League doesn't mean they can do it on the national stage, aside from that it's utter dross. I've seen more unconvincing England displays against decent opposition than decent displays under Hodgson. The point about pens is utter rubbish there is no doubt in my mind if we end up in a shoot out we will lose, I've seen no fewer than 7 England penalty shoot outs in my time and we've lost 6. I've given up with it. Premiership fitness isn't going to matter one iota against teams actually used to playing in the conditions of heat and altitude and if it made such a difference against European opposition we wouldn't have had such a miserable year in UEFA competitions. He makes the point himself about this being the hardest fought Premier League title race for years, given our players normally look knackered at major competitions and a lot of our side will come from Liverpool who one way or another will be physical and emotional heap by the end of the league season, I see that as a hindrance not an advantage. Joe Hart is not the best keeper in the world. I'm not sure the pressure is off, entirely, and if it is it'll be back on as soon as we get to the quarters. Terrible article.
Grandad. Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 Hart Johnson - Cahill - Jagielka - Baines Gerrard Henderson Lallana Sterling Rooney Sturridge That's how I would currently set up for England going into the Italy game.

I've read it and I'm presuming this is a "fun poking satire piece mocking the way English fans view their own league and team" article. It is isn't it? Please tell me it's not actually serious.
Grandad. Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 Is there anyone out there who is possibly playing there way into Hodgson's thoughts? I say this because only a month ago people were talking about Adam Johnson but again the World Cup squad debate has disappeared, is that because there is nobody who looks to be a shock inclusion?

Grandad. Posted 17 April 2014 Posted 17 April 2014 John Stones and Jon Flanagan would be my two shouts. Haha you know I have been saying Flanagan should be in with a shout for months mate, just not going to happen, Southgate has only just realised he is good enough for an Under 21 call up and he is the apparent saviour of youth football in this country. Maybe to early for Stones as well, another good prospect, these two lads are playing regular first team football for teams at the top of the league but Jones and Smalling, who have been dog awful this season in a dog awful side will be ahead of Stones and the White Cafu.

I think they would both be gambles personally. I'm not sure how long Jagielka will be out for but centre back is the biggest concern for England in my opinion. I would definitely take Jones purely because he can play centre back, right back or centre midfield, he's also a far better athlete than Smalling. I don't rate Smalling at all.
GingerrrFox Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 My current England team on form Hart Johnson Stones Cahill Baines Gerrard Lallana Barkley Welbeck Sturridge Sterling
Stadt Posted 18 April 2014 Posted 18 April 2014 If it's on form then Terry has to go, but because he's a nob he'll never play again for England.
