Uncle Monty Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 A genuine question, sorry if it has been discussed before. I know the whole sectarian thing with Celtic and Rangers is probably a big factor but I have read around a bit (with no definitive answer) and it is said often that this isn't the real reason for the hatred. I'm probably biased as a Leicester fan but I didn't realise Neil Lennon is so maligned. Out of past city players the dirtiest one or most annoying from other teams perspectives would have to Savage. I read on a different forum that he deserved to be booted in the head by Shearer which shouldn't really surprise me as he has has bombs sent to him and numerous death threats but the recent abuse suffered yesterday got me thinking.
purpleronnie Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 What abuse yesterday? Apparantly coins thrown at him and possibly spat at too, pretty normal for a game in scotland though.
Fox92 Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 Can't see how any Leicester City fan can hate him for what he contributed to here.
RonnieTodger Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 I think I remember him wanting Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland join as one nation for football and that angered a lot of their fans. He obviously never really helped himself with spitting on Rangers banners etc. I don't know the full story, but that behaviour from his rivals has been disgusting.
Out Foxed Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 http://www.thefreelibrary.com/LENNON+TAKES+DNA+TEST+ON+TOT%3B+EXCLUSIVE+Millionaire+told+to+pay...-a0160078681 The docked money is then passed by Britain's Child Support Agency to Scots singer Jeniffer Jonsen, mother of Irishman Lennon's daughter Orin. The latest development in Glasgow-based Lennon's tangled off-field life emerged back home in Ireland last night as a close associate said: "Neil's people here know all about this situation. The girl in Scotland took him to the CSA for not paying for the baby."And as a lot of people realise, the CSA don't mess around when it comes to getting hold of someone's wages and got quite heavy with him." It is understood Lennon's CSA payments for the nine-month-old child are around pounds 375-a-week.Earlier this year he took a DNA test in Glasgow which confirmed he was the baby's father. His agent Martin Reilly had previously claimed the child might not be Lennon's. But the test proved she was.Jeniffer, 30, fell pregnant with Orin while Lennon was two-timing her with bar manager Irene McCloy.Irene, 31, also fell pregnant, a short while before Jeniffer - making Lennon a dad twice in six months. After Orin was born he refused offers to see her and refused to give maintenance money.Meanwhile, he has been living with Irene and their 15-month-old son Gallagher at his luxury home in Glasgow's West End. He also pays maintenance for his teenage daughter Alisha from an earlier relationship. It is understood he pays for Alisha to attend a private school.Meanwhile, Lennon is also - the Irish Sunday Mirror revealed last month - showering his former girlfriend Fiona Brown, 24, with thousands of pounds worth of gifts.Student Fiona has moved into a luxury flat in Glasgow's Merchant City and drives a new sports car. She told friends Lennon had given her pounds 22,000 in September. Before Jeniffer's pregnancy was revealed last April, Lennon's aides say he paid EUR45,000 into her bank account to take care of the child. But he was furious when the pregnancy became public. He and Jeniffer then had a series of bitter rows.Until the CSA's involvement, he refused to pay any more money for Orin, who shares his red hair and features. generally being a nasty piece of work i think.
Beliall Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 so he paid 45.000 euro and she still went to the CSA?
Finnegan Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 He's a massive WUM. He was fine when he was here, the second he went to Glasgow he made it his mission to wind up and be wound up by the whole Old Firm ethos. Some of the abuse goes a bit far but he certainly milks a lot of it, too.
Uncle Monty Posted 2 February 2014 Author Posted 2 February 2014 Seems to have turned into a bit of a bad egg then eh? Didn't know about his off the field exploits or spitting on a Rangers banner.
Nalis Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 I'm from Northern Ireland originally and some of the hatred some people have of him back home (mainly from the loyalist community) is unreal. One of my mates, who is an lifelong Toffee, even said he would stop supporting Everton if Lennon was made manager last summer! Back to the original question, its mainly cos he's a bit of a WUM and has been filmed singing pro-nationalist / anti Rangers songs. In any case, a lot of the shit he's got over the years is a bit OTT in my view...
Vacamion Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 Yeah, he's pretty much taken the whole sectarian thing (which is already bad enough on both sides of the Irish Sea) and injected some top quality WUM work of his own to make him the hate figure he has become. Add to that the circumstances under which he stopped playing international football, his touchline spat with McCoist and, sadly, the fact that he is a very ginger bloke with a heavy Norn Irish accent, it means that he stands out in a way which seems to wind some people right up. Especially the Orcs of Ibrox. I've seen him drinking around Glasgow, but he's now never without a few minders because he can't go out without people attacking him. Sad, really. I'm no fan of Celtic or some of his antics, but I would shake his hands for what he did at City (if I could get past his minders).
wight88 Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 Sounds like the poor fella cops for it everywhere. http://www.thedailymash.co.uk/sport/sport-headlines/neil-lennon-attacked-by-geese-201105133813
Soar Fox Posted 2 February 2014 Posted 2 February 2014 If you don't know why he's hated you don't know anything about football.
