Laudrup Now Gone

It can't be easy trying to juggle both the league and European competition (a competition they're doing well in, at that), especially when your star striker, who was key to last season's successes, has been out injured. Yeah, they might be in a relegation battle, but then so are about 9/10 other teams, who are hardly setting the world alight, either.

That said, if there has been tension behind the scenes, then it makes it a bit more understandable.

European competition seems to be a killer for teams that don't have the depth of quality in their squads to cope now its a group based tournament then a two leg knockout. I sometimes wonder if certain teams should not bother too much with it and concentrate on consolidating in the league absorbing the premier money and building depth in their squad before taking it seriously. However with the fans exited at the prospect of European football and what's on offer it must be difficult to put it on the back burner, yet league form seems to suffer.

Ridiculous. Who are they going to get who could do a better job than him. Shit club, shit chairman.

Probably the stupidest post I've seen on this section of the forum in a long time. Probably since a bunch of our fans decided to rub the Jack's faces in it when we robbed Sousa and they got "stuck" with Rogers. Poor Swansea? Oops. Maybe, just maybe their chairman knows better than a bunch of Leicester supporters.

Jenkins is a cracking owner and the sport would be better off with more like him.

Laudrup has been on his way out for months, it's commonly felt he lost the dressing room and lost interest. Ex players and pundits close to the club have all pointed out he'd lost his passion for the job.

Sometimes you shouldn't always wait til you're in a relegation scrap to change things.

As i illuded to in a brief post on page one though, the results were just the tip of the iceberg, and as you can see in the article on the BBC sport page, all the other stuff is now out in the wash as to why he was sacked

The BBC article is not exactly illuminating why he got sacked. As Finnegan alludes to, there might've been something with regards to Laudrup's long-term commitment. He's never been the type that gets his hands dirty.

Whenever there was trouble brewing, he'd just evade it. He was tolerating some right shit at Mallorca and eventually left (the comparison on the Beeb site is quite unfair), but he has gotten a bit of a reputation of leaving if he doesn't get it the way he wants it.

The recent reported bust-ups (I wonder if Monk's involvement had some bearing on Laudrup getting the sack?) and the fact they only got players like Emnes and Ngog during the January window indicating that he spent most of the budget this summer and had to make do with stop gap solutions, that's something which doesn't sit well with Laudrup.

Michu's absence and the effect it's had is well-documented, but people seem to overlook the absence of Vorm. Tremmel has been poor which has maybe contributed in the obvious dip in form of Williams and Chico. All the trouble surrounding his agent and the unsettling rumours/approaches this summer.. all these things added up have probably swayed Laudrup's and Jenkins' mind.

As great as he did last season, signing the likes of n'gog and emnes has hardly impressed their fans and i'm not surprised hes gone.

1) The signings of Emnes and N'Gog tells you that he spent the budget last summer.

2) The signing of Michu probably didn't have them excited either

3) Not 'impressing' the fans is probably the least valid reason why Laudrup and Swansea parted ways.

Interesting statement by Laudrup. Seems he's genuinely disappointed and surprised. With the club telling him he can't visit the training ground and say proper farewell, I'm thinking that bust up involving Monk and the alleged 'unrest' within the team has had a much larger impact than expected.

Yeah, I read he fell out with some of the bigger players. Then the club announced that 're-shuffle' involving Monk.

I ignited the now infamous "Poor Swansea" movement so if you've got a problem with that, you've got a problem with me. My pride and joy, that.

Any position in a league in which they are punching far above their weight, I'd say they are two leagues above where they should be, they ought to be grateful.

Hope they go down with Cardiff this season now. Wrexham must be missing their local derbies. Mind you, they need a promotion first.

It would be nice but I think it'll just be Cardiff that go from Wales. Calling Wrexham against Cardiff or Swansea a 'local derby' is a bit like saying Leicester v Scunthorpe is, but I get the whole 'Welsh thing'.

There's definitely a North-South divide in Wales and nobody quite does in-fighting and grudges like we Welsh*. To compare Wrexham - Cardiff to Leicester - Scunny is daft.

They were fairly spirited affairs it's just they don't really happen any more so the tension's a bit dead. They're so far apart in terms of league position and status that any point of having a competitive rivalry is faded.

A bit like Leicester and Cov.  :pearson:

(*we also have an East/West divide, a bit of a valleys-cities divide, the occasional Welsh-speaking / non-Welsh speaking divide and anything else that's a good excuse for a boozy scrap... divide.)

A real low point in your career. Untitled_3.png
