Bert Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 Just seen that they have won just six League games since they won the League Cup, that isn't great for saying it was nearly a year ago. It's 8. Checked it out myself because I couldn't believe it.
RobHawk Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 Livening in Swansea means I hear a lot about the team. It seems that many fans think a lot of last years success was due to what Brendan Rogers did before he left. He then signed michu which helped move them up a step. The problem this year is that they have not been good at all. Defensively they have looked a lot worse and have had very little cutting edge going forward. Having read the chairmanship comments I think the main issue has been the constant speculation over Laudrups future, he did turn down clubs last summer but has always come across that this was a stepping stone and speculation has been that he will be off at the end of the season anyway. If you then bear in mind how much he has spent, things have not worked out well this season and the performance levels have been shocking at times. He had 1 good season but even Sousa looked good there for a year after Martinez and we all know how god he wasn't.
21st Century Fox Posted 4 February 2014 Posted 4 February 2014 It's really not that surprising and more to do with his constant falling out with the board and the friction in the squad (Flores/Monk/Brick incident).
Langston Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 I thought it was an embarrassing decision until seeing a stat that he'd only won six league games since winning the League Cup? I still think it's a harsh decision considering the height he took them to and the football he had them playing last season (as well as some brutal luck with injuries), but form like that is bound to pose a few questions to any board at any level.
ozleicester Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Fkin ell... There must be more to it, one doesnt just sack a manager that has a 4th division side in the top half of the 1st division? edit (12th not quite top half) Just read this though.... (john Hartson) "My manager at Celtic Martin O'Neill said to me that even the best managers are only three or four games away from the sack. The fans get very disgruntled and start asking questions". How many would NP have to lose to be questioned?... knowing this forum...1 followed by a draw.. Pearson out!
ScouseFox Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 He won away at all of the traditional big 4 (Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea & United) as well as going to Valencia and dicking them too. Pretty impressive. They've been shit all year in the league though and at West Ham last weekend they looked pathetic and he looked a lot like he wasn't even arsed.

AdamN Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 It can't be easy trying to juggle both the league and European competition (a competition they're doing well in, at that), especially when your star striker, who was key to last season's successes, has been out injured. Yeah, they might be in a relegation battle, but then so are about 9/10 other teams, who are hardly setting the world alight, either. That said, if there has been tension behind the scenes, then it makes it a bit more understandable.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 How are people saying that this is crazy, it's quite evident that Laudrup would be leaving at the end of the season. The owner probably wants stability and with them near the dropzone the idea that the manager might be gone next season will hardly help the players. If you want stability you would wait until the end of the season.
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Whilst it is silly, I remember being sat here slagging off Southampton for sacking Adkins when they were 15th mid season last year and that's not exactly gone badly for them has it. But yeah I can't get my head around it.....what more do they want exactly?
Jon the Hat Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 One of the more sensible decisions for me. The Chairman has obviously given it a lot of thought, and done what he thinks is best. Laudrup is not a bad manager, but something had clearly broken down relationship wise.
cityfanlee23 Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 People scared Nigel may leave for swansea? First of all, It will not happen, 2nd of all, if it did... We can have laudrup
J.Lisemore Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Stupid decision, where does the chairman expect a club the size of Swansea to be? they're doing well to be 12th. All downhill from here for them, and wouldn't be surprised to see them relegated come May.
FoxyPV Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Swansea must have sacked him now to allow them plenty of time to find a suitable replacement as they knew they couldn't rely on Laudrup. It seems a very sensible decision and the best for the club in the long run.
Bugg Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 They were serving up some terrible football with no cutting edge this season and Laudrup did spend a fair amount this season (Bony, Shelvey etc.). They looked to be going backwards so I can see why the chairman got rid of him.
Guest Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Pretty sure he's been sacked because he couldn't sign Jeff.
RobHawk Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26042067 If you read the comments of the chairman, there's clearly more to this than just results. Having seen them play a few times this season, they do seem to have lost alot of the fight, passion and commitment! Personally, whilst they are a small club i think they are well run and have a clear philosophy about the football they play and that has been refreshing within the premier league. I hope they stay up and manage to carry on moving forward.
Beliall Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 maybethey feel the team isnt peforming because they are expecting laudrup to leave.?
Jace Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 They have been very poor this season but if the players weren't happy because he wasn't disciplined enough and they wanted to train instead of drinking on their team trip then they why didn't they act more professional rather than expect another grown up to tell them what to do?
AyewJoking Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 its annoying how people decide a clubs "natural level". just because Swansea have been mediocre in the past doesnt mean the team and players they have now are mediocre and why exactly are they punching above their weight?, they are in the premier league, they are allowed to at least try and better themselves. leeds, forest fans etc get ribbed for clinging on to past glories when at this moment in time they are mediocre. most people probably think leicester in the prem are punching above their weight. true perhaps but you have to get there and punch above your weight for a while else how are you ever going to progress?
Leicesterpool Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Sounds like lack of discipline on the training ground, one or two players complained about a special treatment to certain players, some players would regularly turn up late or didn't turn up at all and the manager would say or do nothing!

We've been in the top flight loads, and we have a much bigger fanbase, of course Premiership isn't punching above our weight. But even for us, a league cup win and midtable is above average performance. It's all very well saying they've got good players (though, for the last time, they're missing 3 of their best ones) but you've got to have a look at the clubs above them. Which of the clubs above them should they be better than?

As i illuded to in a brief post on page one though, the results were just the tip of the iceberg, and as you can see in the article on the BBC sport page, all the other stuff is now out in the wash as to why he was sacked
