Laudrup Now Gone

Very, very surprised by this departure. Granted, he hadn't had them playing as spectacular a football than previously.

But still... sitting neatly in 12th place, and that for a club like Swansea!

Crazy.

Has he been found out? Really? Or did he just achieve so much last year and this is their natural level?

It's not even their natural level, their natural level is League one. They're punching massively above their weight to even be in the Premier League. Winning a trophy is a miracle.

Even worse is the fact they're missing their 3 best players. Take the 3 best players out of any side and they'll struggle.

They're as close to the top half as they are to the drop. Even if you're a big club you cannot expect to be consistently in the top half for the whole season every season. Look at Everton, even under Moyes they had periods where they struggled and weren't that far clear of the relegation zone.

I just don't understand what a manager has to do to be granted some leeway.

I just think Swansea look stale. I can see Bony and perhaps Michu leaving for Europa League sides.

Swansea have been over achieving no doubt.

I'm watching the weekends MOTD right now. His post match comments were "Today it was disappointing and there is nothing else to say about it really".

That really is crazy! I can see this coming back to haunt them, What do Swansea actually expect to achieve from their life in the premiership?

Top 4 in the prem? Champions league winners? The treble?

I don't get their motivation for this decision!

He's only won 8 league games since the Carling Cup final.

Yet they're still midtable and in all competitions bar the League Cup. Not to mention his squad has been plagued by injuries to key players. He was always going to struggle to re-create last seasons achievements. Strange decision, although I think it's mainly down to Laudrup himself that he left.

He was "reluctant" to do so according to ITV.

He must feel gutted for the jobs he turned down only to find out he's been sacked..hope he does well in the future, always liked him.

Are they not allowed to have ambitions?

Swansea have had their moment in the sun and now it's all gonna go downhill. When I was a kid. Swansea were some 4th division club who nobody had ever heard off. Now all of a sudden they think their massive and should be fighting for a European spot. Hope they go back down and go back to playing Plymouth on a Tuesday night.

Wins are hard to come by in the Premiership. 8 wins doesn't sound a lot but let's look at how many we won in the O'Neill seasons:

12

13

12

16

Not a lot really (99/2000 aside which was exceptional for us).

I'm aware they're on 6 this season but if they get double figures without their best players they'll have done really well. Stats like yours are meant to sound bad but they don't really tell a story at all.

Are they not allowed to have ambitions?

In a word, no. If this is how they manage their ambitions then they shouldn't bother having them.

I don't agree with this at all. He guided them to a major trophy, got them into Europe which has resulted on their PL performance along with a massive amount of injuries.

I really like Laudrop. One manager who's interviews I could actually listen too. Hope he goes onto better things.

Christ on a bike. I know they've been shit recently but who the fvck do Swansea think they are?

You know the world's gone bonkers when 12th in the Premier League isn't good enough for Swansea.

This just totally this

Unbelievable

To be fair if I was a chairman of a mid-table PL side and the manager asked me to provide funds to buy David N'Gog I'd have sacked him there and then.

How are people saying that this is crazy, it's quite evident that Laudrup would be leaving at the end of the season. The owner probably wants stability and with them near the dropzone the idea that the manager might be gone next season will hardly help the players.

Swansea were lucky their "gamble" paid off with their "play-off" final victory - their wage bill for that season was a lot more than their income. Had they lost the final, there would have been a "fire-sale" of their better players (Williams, Dyer, Allen) and they would probably now be back in L1 with the likes of other teams who messed up in the play-offs like Sheff United and Preston.

Parallels with Charlton when they got rid of Alan Curbishley when in the top half of the Premier League..

Watch them drop like a stone...
