Guest Col city fan Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 Im on a 32 half pint pub crawl on Saturday, so better do something with the missis on Fri night...
RedHux Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 I'm taking the missus to Palermo. Eat my romantic dust! ( that sounds wrong!) Got sod all to do with valentines day though which we both think think is a wholly odious affair. It's just how the school term seems to be this year.

Alf Bentley Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 Im on a 32 half pint pub crawl on Saturday, so better do something with the missis on Fri night... Well, you won't be able to do much with her - or, at least, much that she'd appreciate - after 16 pints on Saturday, will you? Are you going to 32 different pubs or having 32 different beers or something? Will you manage it, over what period and with what impact upon your personal decorum?! When I was in my 20s and 30s, I could just about have managed that over the course of a full day, but even drinking slowly, I'd just fall asleep after about 8 pints now!
Rincewind Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 There is the Derby Winter Beer Festival soon. Take her to that.
Manwell Pablo Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 Not keen on Valentine's Day. Why have a specific day to treat your partners? Shouldn't you do it where possible all year round?* Similar to my thinking on New Year's Resolutions - why wait til the first day of the year to really do something? If you believed so strongly in doing something new, you'd do it straight away. *before anyone says anything and thinks I'm boring or what not, I've had partners through Valentine's Day in previous years and felt the same! Most women don't think like this. Thankfully I made sure I picked one that did, so I'll be doing **** all.

Alf Bentley Posted 11 February 2014 Posted 11 February 2014 There is the Derby Winter Beer Festival soon. Take her to that. Great idea. I bet that would go down well! Have you ever thought of writing an "agony uncle" column, Ken? Mind you, early in our relationship my then girlfriend, now wife, was visiting for the weekend (I was still living in Manchester, she was in Hinckley) and wanted to show willing by suggesting that we go to a football match, though she had no interest in football. Naturally, I took her to Rochdale v Carlisle, as you do if you live in Manchester. It was a great game (2-2), but she wanted to leave at half-time. Talked her round, though.... The Relate sessions are going well!

Captain... Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 If I bought my missus anything from there I might as well chop my cock off. I am guessing, hoping, it is more aimed at women buying their man something.
Alf Bentley Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 If I bought my missus anything from there I might as well chop my cock off. That could prove doubly expensive, Webbo. You'd have to buy an LCFC-branded paint stirrer to replace it.
MikeyT Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 Bought the girlfriend a few small things rather than a main gift. Still bloody expensive though. Got her a card from Paper Chase in the Highcross! Good little shop that i never knew existed!
Bert Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 Can't believe I've seen people moan that they're gonna be alone on valentines. Shallow as anything. Plenty of people in the world can't celebrate birthdays and Christmas with loved ones, people are without mums and dads on Mothers/Father's Day yet some people have the audacity to moan about being single on February the 14th.
Webbo Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 It's the worst day of the year to be alone, when you see lovey dovey couples everywhere and on TV etc it just reminds you of how alone you are. I can completely understand it.
Asha Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 You can always just frame it differently. Why does being single mean you have to feel 'alone'? **** it, you can do what you want without haemorrhaging money. Sorted. V Day just ends up being a competition between those who care - most of whom are horrific as a couple anyway.
Soar Fox Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 If your are in a relationship and happy why does valentines day even matter? If you want to show your hubsband/wife/girlfriend/boyfriend how much you care about them there's plenty of other days to do something romantic not just one day.
deejdeej Posted 12 February 2014 Posted 12 February 2014 I've already informed the missus she'll only be getting it once if she's lucky on the friday night as I'll need the energy for the all day drinking session I have planned the next day with the lads, needless to say I'm not in her good books.

Its a magic magic laff. I've only ever managed 30, at which I collapsed in Yates'. A few years back that was. My son is on this one, his initiation into the 32 halves. The only rules are that it must be lager, or bitter and it must be 32 different boozers.
Dan Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 Totally apathetic to the whole day now. In-fact I'm not sure why I opened the thread. Good luck to those who enjoy it.

maynefox Posted 13 February 2014 Posted 13 February 2014 I don't see the point in Valentines Day. Does it require one day of the year to be extra special and nice to your other half?
