Back to playing Rimworld. Been about 6 years (i.e. pre-kids) that I've had a go at it.
My first colony crashed and burned in spectacular chain reaction-like fashion, which left me in stitches. Had a rough day and wanted to unwind only for Randy Random to double down on my misery to a point that ridiculousness had me smiling from ear to ear. Great game!

It's one of my favourites. Still need to try the last 2 expansions at some point.

Finished Pragmata last weekend - took me around 20 hours and I am really hoping they come out with some DLC or a sequel, I need more! haha

Might go back for the platinum at some point as I only need to play it through again on the hardest difficulty to get it

I had a lot of issues actually getting the game to work - initially bought it on disk and it kept crashing during the same initial load up point

Bought the game digitally and even then it still crashed at the same point  and there is no real info online about other people having the same issue and playstation support was a load of rubbish, in the end the only way I could play it was through streaming it, and that could be a bit dodgy at times

But I am really glad that I stuck it out through those initial issues to play it through

The combat is really fun and testing at times, having to balance the hacking and the different weapons to use, which enemy to focus on first etc.

The story is good and they do a great job of making you care about Hugh and Diana

If you are unsure on whether to play, there is a demo available that gives you a good experience of the combat

Capcom smashing it out of the park yet again with this game

Been playing the new Gears of War E-Day this weekend, really has me hooked and I have just finished Act 3

I really have missed how satisfying it is to pop a grubs head with a sniper in these games

I do think the open world bits could be a done better though, and the way they have made it way too easy to have whatever weapons you want

It doesn't really become the game, imo anyway. The city is under attack and you are giving clear objectives with a sense of urgency. Not exactly the kind of situation where you think to yourself nah I'll have a wonder down this sidestreet looking for a COG tag instead.

Aside from that yeah, fun as always.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.

I tried it about a year ago and couldn't get into it. I wish I'd persisted, it's fantastic.

The game really doesn't let you know that it'll absolutely punish you until you level up to a certain point. I died so many times in the first ten-or-so hours and thought I was just absolutely shit at the combat.

I think I forgot to actually level my character within the general skills tab during my first 10 hours too

The game is class.

Dragonwilds is the dogs bollocks

Agreed. 150 hours so far and I am blown away by Jagex's success over the last 5 years. Made huge strides as a company.

Runescape 4, an MMORPG set in the Dragon wilds theme could be huge. But even if not, Old School Runescape is still and will always be my go-to.

Sad times.

Not really, they've been pushing out absolute s**t for a while now and not released anything worthwhile since Inquisition back in 2014. I do laugh they've put Anthem in that list of games though over a game like Jade Empire.

They're not the company they were and it was just the name that the incumbents were dragging through the mud with dross like Andromeda and Anthem. Veilguard was alright, but whilst I wasn't triggered about the "controversial" aspects of the game, it did make me think they weren't focused on the priorities that was making a good game.

1. Watch a YouTube video on how to quickly make 'Henry' level Poison.

2. Put some time aside to make a shit load of it whilst listening to your favourite podcast / pretending to watch Leicester play.

3. Never struggle with combat again.

Yeah, looking back at the titles that made the company great – Mass Effect in particular – it's a shame.

However, after all that D&I crap they pushed onto the market, they deserve this end. In the past ten years plus, BioWare got hijacked by activists, employed more and more DEI hires and started to produce games for niche audiences or games that failed to land with its core customers, men. The original developers had all pretty much left by 2015.

Mass Effect: Andromeda, Dragon Age: Veilguard were one big joke, Anthem failed miserably, Shadow Realms got canceled.

Good riddance.

I don't see it as sad particularly. If it was still 2010 I'd be upset but at this point BioWare is just a name. Most of their best devs moved on a long time ago and Veilguard felt like it was designed by a committee of marketing men more than actual storytellers wanting to make a game. It was the most "generic 2025 role-playing game" they could possibly have mustered.

BioWare hasn't actually been the BioWare you know since EA bought it and shut down the Edmonton studio. It's just been a brand ever since. If Mondelez took over Lindt and changed every single ingredient to cheap crap, you wouldn't really be all that ****ed about eating Lindor anymore would you?

The creatives behind those games are all scattered to the wind long ago. I haven't actually looked this up but it wouldn't surprise me if you find them in studios like Larian, Obsidian, et all.

In addition - it's not like we're living in an era that's short of RPG options.

Look at studios like OwlCat, they're knocking out some brilliant stuff and they've currently got a Mass Effect inspired game in development based on The Expanse IP that's probably going to be better than the upcoming Mass Effect project was going to be given that I'm guessing basically nobody from the peak ME games was probably working on it.

Trying out The Hell 4 mod for Diablo 1. It's proper old school fun, with a ton of modern QOL features and customizability and most bugs smoothed over. The grittiness and steep learning curve is what this is all about. No online guides either, so it's all about discovering and trying stuff out.

Did about 80 hours on The Witcher 3. I’d read about how every decision influenced the game so carefully picked the right options, being really nice to Ciri… I didn’t kill everyone… honest.
