  1. 1. If only one could happen, do you choose England to win the world cup in Brazil, or we stay in the Premiership?

England winning the World Cup or City staying up!

I can't believe what I'm reading.

I would 'bloody love it' if England won the World Cup! The nation would go mad, everyone would be filling all the bars across the country to see the quarters, semi, final. The Nation would be in rapture!

As an Englishman I'd be so proud.

Imagine winning the final against the Mighty Brazil or the Germans!

And you'd rather have City stay up over that!

Where's your sense of English Pride people?

City can go down and come back up again.. I doubt England would win it again in my lifetime.

Most England fans are fvcking racist cv*ts.

England can go shove it for all I care. I couldn't giving a flying fook about the rest of the population and their feelings. I actually hope England never win the World Cup again. The thought of the cretins going out celebrating fills me with such hate.

I remember after Portugal beat us(can't remember when exactly) a group of local "England fans" decided to vandalise a Portuguese cafe near where I live

You talk out of your arse. Bored. Off to work. Maybe on the way there I will look out for all the unbuilt on spare land everywhere!

Try reading the link, it realy can't be argued with.

There are vast swathes of this country not open to the public.

I do hope one of those 'foreigners' hasn't taken your job.

Too right.

I consider myself very patriotic, I believe being that means upholding the values of your society and striving for better, it's about questioning governments to make sure they are doing the best for you and your people, it's about enjoying the wonderful landscape and learning about the history your country has, it's about learning about the arts of your country from it's greatest writers and thinkers to it's greatest musicians.

It's even about about getting out to vote on election day, without debate, without criticism, no administration and no country can succeed, it's every patriots duty to ensure that happens and continues to happen.

A patriot should be willing to subordinate his personal interests to those of his country if the two should ever conflict for the greater good, it's the reason a mother would send her son to war, a reason why a son would give his life for whatever that cause was if he believes it worth it.

The fact some people consider supporting a football team a main factor in being a patriot these days says we have a lot wrong with society.

I think that hits the nail on the head.

The connection between fans and players just doesnt seem there with England, they are so out of they way of the general public now they almost seem like mythical figures to the average fan.

Compare that to the 90's when Gazza walked into a pub in London after running away from the ground still in his kit and boots asking someone to swop clothes with him as he was going out to a club later but wanted to get straight on the piss and you probably have one of the reasons why the whole nation absolutely loved the side during the 90's compared to the apathy a lot seem to have towards them now.

The character seemed a lot better but it's just everything that the England national team resembles from my own point of view. £45 for a friendly. 80,000 in a ground that's no louder than Leicester (which is hardly the San Paolo itself), over-hyped, over-rated players who also see playing for England as secondary to playing for their club, Adrian Chiles, facepainted adults in knight costumes, the awful band that dominates the awful atmosphere, the sterile football, the list goes on.

Like I say, this is just my perception as someone who watches the games on TV and doesn't really feel a proper connection as a result.

With Leicester it's completely different. It feels like almost a journey with Leicester. Meeting the same people and traveling to shitholes all over the country, genuinely feeling a part of something - and this team just so happens to be my favourite in years, if not ever.

Isn't it funny how Jimmeh talks down at these 'foreign players getting to 17th for their bonuses' to put down Leicester whilst lauding the current England squad as a bunch of heroes. Totally, totally laughable. Unbelievable delusion and it's as if he's watched neither side in the past 12 months. I'd rather we had more English players in our team as it means that the chances are we've got a successful academy which is helpful to sustaining ourselves (look at Southampton) but that doesn't mean I'll turn my nose up at foreign players if they're good enough for us, and seem to actually give a shit.

I feel more allegiance with Riyad Mahrez than I do with Steven Gerrard.

Jimmeh, I'm not sure you actually realise how prejudice you're coming across

Why are you disgusted that someone else thinks differently to you? So what if someone has a difference of opinion? Who are you to get all up on your pompous high-horse and cast your judgement over those who think in a different manner?

Definitely England winning world cup. Anyone who remembers the feeling of 66 wouldn't hesitate .

Survival is just survival and easilly forgot , but winning the blue riband of all football ( possibly all sporting) trophies stays forever .

if the question was Leicester winning the prem or champions league it would be a much tougher call

Another nicely put post (why do people have to resort to such terminology on a forum, does it make you feel like a big man?).

Personally, I don't follow England to games, yet I consider myself an England fan. I remember magic nights in various boozers watching us turnover the Dutch under Venables or the Germans? When Lineker got that late one. Bobby Robson was the boss back then... a true English gent.

As the tournaments go on, if you progress, there's a sense of euphoria and National Pride sweeps across the nation. Maybe its an age thing? England have been pants for many years.

I betcha though, if we start to do well in Brazil, and look good.. most of those on here saying that they don't give a shite about the England National Team, will be tuned-in and getting pissed-up with the rest of us.

ENGLAND...ENGLAND...they'll be singing, with as much gusto as those who genuinely take Pride in our National achievements.

The problem is I don't expect us to progress out of the bloody group stage, let alone any further.

I so to all those who say 'it don't matter', fair enough... stick to your guns, put your balls out and don't watch.

You won't be missed. .

Fantastic post Dan, agree with every word.

It's not just the team, it's everything that goes with it from the top of the FA to the band on the ground. It's become the symbol of the "matchday experience" unless you go away.

That's a great shout Zing, I voted for Leicester staying up as well but I didn't live through 1966 so i have no idea how good it was.

Leaving aside the idiots who clearly don't want England to do well because of their own political beliefs, are there any people on this board voting no who lived through the last World Cup win??

I'll be watching and don't get me wrong it would be pretty amazing if England do win it (the shock factor would be the main reason) but I still think Leicester can bring a unique joy to me that no other club is capable of no matter what they win and I include England and the World Cup in that.

Just for the record, it's not that I don't give a shite about the England team, just that Leicester's success means more to me! I'd love for England to win the World Cup (any one), but I'd want Premier League survival for Leicester more.

Laughable really. I can't see what makes him think we'll be straight down that route. I've seen nothing but progression in the type of character around LCFC in the past year or two (despite certain blips).

Yep pretty much that. I may do it one day but I'm not sure.

I've always wondered what it is that puts me off England but it's a mixture of things - the main ones being lack of connection and now the players see club before country as well.

I definitely felt more for England when I was younger. Certainly enjoyed watching it more.

I'm not against foreigners living here. Km friends with Indians blacks polish. I am not racist. I'm simply saying we can't keep letting anyone in. The country is one of the smallest in the world. We will have no countryside soon

Everything upto Euro 96 was awesome for me, I've struggled since and I have no idea why.

Leicester finishing 17th wouldn't bring unique joy though. It'd be a dull, poor, but just about successful season. We can do better, or we could be relegated and enjoy another season of dominating the league and bringing the 'unique joy' to you a lot more often than we would by coming 17th. I just think that a World Cup win for the country, something which won't happen again, is better than an unmemorable Premier League survival.

This thread asked what we'd want if we had to chose between them. Obviously I'd want both, England winning the World Cup would be fantastic and give every supporter a huge lift (then probable unmanagable expectations) but if I had to choose I'd want Leicester to do well. I feel more connection with the club and I suppose I really enjoy the unique football joy of your club doing very well.

Absolutely!

This question should be asked on the morning of the semi-finals when everyone has taken time off work because England are playing Argentina that evening. See if the 'I don't give a shite about the National Team' boys are making plans that night to take their missis out for dinner or a trip to the cinema.

lol

Hypocrites!
