World cup victory or relegation survival?

  1. 1. If only one could happen, do you choose England to win the world cup in Brazil, or we stay in the Premiership?

Everything upto Euro 96 was awesome for me, I've struggled since and I have no idea why.

I do get you on that to some extent. I think it's because we've been pretty much shite if truth be told.

I genuinely couldn't care less if England won the world cup. Some of the players make me actively hope we don't. How much they're paid means nothing to me, I just plain don't like some of them as people and have no affinity with the England team.

I just hope the World Cup in general is a success. I want there to be great games, all time memorable moments, all day/night world cup parties and the right team to win.

I hope for a bit more than survival for City long term, but it is first and foremost the aim for next season. Leicester will always be more personal to me than England, that's just the way it is.

I'd take relegation to league 2 if England could win the World Cup. It's not even a difficult decision.

Everything up to age 3 for me then lol

I'm looking forward to watching the WC down the pub surrounded by other England fans, I certainly won't be taking Mrs H out for a meal.

It's still Leicester for me though.

I hung in there until McLaren's reign. By then certain players had begun to piss me off, they were so massively overrated and always let their country down on the big stage. Others clearly had bad attitudes.

Like you I just naturally stopped caring. I wasn't even slightly disappointed when they got knocked out of the Euros.

I don't get the same sort of excitement or nervousness watching England as I do watching Leicester.

Being in Cardiff the night we lost on penalties in the playoffs felt heartbreaking and horrible. When England lose on penalties I don't feel the same disappointment.

Leicester finishing 17th wouldn't bring unique joy though. It'd be a dull, poor, but just about successful season. We can do better, or we could be relegated and enjoy another season of dominating the league and bringing the 'unique joy' to you a lot more often than we would by coming 17th. I just think that a World Cup win for the country, something which won't happen again, is better than an unmemorable Premier League survival.

That's fair enough, but the unique joy remains a part of it - if Leicester win at Old Trafford on the way to coming 17th, that win alone will bring me a great sense of joy than England winning the World Cup would.

That is completely flabbergasting. League 2 would be a disgrace to the club and could take years to recover from.

England winning the world cup would only be exciting at the time and then they'd just go back to being wankers again.

It was Keegan that finished it for me, I'm never surprised when we get knocked out but I'm always disappointed.

I put that down to the utter inevitability of it.

Absolutely!

This question should be asked on the morning of the semi-finals when everyone has taken time off work because England are playing Argentina that evening. See if the 'I don't give a shite about the National Team' boys are making plans that night to take their missis out for dinner or a trip to the cinema.

lol

Hypocrites!

Not hypocrites. I'll be watching the Semis either way.

Yeah same here! no wonder the england player pick club over country, if the fans do the same.

i was more "flabbergasted" by the fact you stated you actively didn't want england to win the world cup tbh

The World Cup is the greatest trophy in the world and one that's seemed just plain unwinnable ever since I was young.

Had a bit of difficulty deciding but after reading what Col wrote it's obvious - the days leading up to the game would be an experience in itself. I don't know what it's like to see England do well in a major competition but I imagine the entire nation sort of switches off for a few days, everyone's thoughts geared towards the national team.

Time off work? I'm pretty sure kick off will be after work. Besides of course I'm going to be desperate to watch a world cup semi final regardless of what teams are in it.

I will admit that the excitement of the country when England play is quite infectious, and I enjoy it. I'm sure it would be even more enjoyable if we did well. But I can't say I seriously care. It's not even comparable to my feelings with City.

Why? I don't like the players, there's no good reason why I should want these people to have such a glorious moment. Other than the fact I'm 'English'.

I'm not a patriotic person.

Yes but I wouldn't describe it as common (nor is it specifically a English thing or connected to football). And I find it rather Ironic that you reverted to speaking Spanish in a attempt to avoid racist bigatory their experts on the subject.

I didn't revert to speaking Spanish out of national empathy with the Spaniards! I think you missed the point.

No, it's not purely English, but then I don't support any other nation either. And seeing as it's England we're discussing...

Time off work to get yourself ready for the game buddy! Nice bit of breakfast, followed by a couple of lunchtime sneaky ones, back home for a quick kip, shower, change and back out for the evening. Flags everywhere, Three Lions everywhere. .

Magic!

I think its the 'avoid relegation' bit.

Now if the question was England to win the World Cup or City to win the FA Cup, that's a harder one to answer.

you're english and you like football, i just don't get how you could actively wish us not to win a world cup?

you're cutting off your nose to spite your face though aren't you, denying yourself, the england fans and the whole country of a world cup win and all the joy and excitement winning the tournament would bring, just because you don't like ashley cole and john terry. seems pretty immature and pathetic imo that's all.
