StanSP Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 There would be no Leicester but for the fa and England my friend. Tbh the poll reads as it does because people on here's life depends on Leicester city. If you had a poll at the ground from every fan who went then it would be completely different. Unfortunately people on here are so sad they would probably choose Leicester staying up over there wife And you clearly chose something else other than your English lessons at school.
Tom's Pasta Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Had to have a good think about this. I will confess I eventually chose England to win the world cup. Firstly it's the biggest prize in football, plus I've never seen it and may never see it happen in my life time, also we will go down from the prem eventually whether it's in a year or ten years. So even though I agree that I'm definitely club over country 99 times out of 100, winning the world cup is too good to turn down, it would be national mayhem.
Guest MattP Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Does it really though? Could anyone name (without resorting to google) any of the Uruguay 1930 winners, or Italy's 1934/1938 winning squads? Likewise in another 50 years would anyone really know the likes of Moore and Charlton? Anyway, it'd be Leicester every time (change the question to scotland or city, nothing would change): I enjoy the world cups and euros, but no more than the ACN (maybe less so, the ACN is brilliant, shit goalkeepers galore), they're just filler in those 3 months of the close season to me, something to bide the time between the end of one season and the start of the next. Fair point. Though sadly due to a World Cup obsession as a kid I can pretty much name every goalscorer from every World Cup final bar a few. Around aged 14 I could even do attendances of them. Thankfully I found beer.
veezeeblue Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Leicester would get promoted next season (1 year) England would take a lifetime to win the world cup again ! (1966 to 2014 = 48 years)
Finnegan Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 If you ***** win a world cup I'm moving. Unbearable. It's bad enough you fluked one fifty years ago. Fortunately you're garbage.
Webbo Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 If you ***** win a world cup I'm moving Does anyone want to change their vote now?
kingcarr21 Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Cant believe this has reached 8 pages of debate. Absolutely no contest in my decision. England World Cup win all the way. If we went with us surviving (which would be amazing) then got relegated the season after our prem survival would all be forgotten about. England winning the World cup would be remembered til the day you die. Its one of them moments where you tell your grandkids where you were and what you were doing the day England won the world cup.
Manwell Pablo Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Another nicely put post (why do people have to resort to such terminology on a forum, does it make you feel like a big man?). Personally, I don't follow England to games, yet I consider myself an England fan. I remember magic nights in various boozers watching us turnover the Dutch under Venables or the Germans? When Lineker got that late one. Bobby Robson was the boss back then... a true English gent. As the tournaments go on, if you progress, there's a sense of euphoria and National Pride sweeps across the nation. Maybe its an age thing? England have been pants for many years. I betcha though, if we start to do well in Brazil, and look good.. most of those on here saying that they don't give a shite about the England National Team, will be tuned-in and getting pissed-up with the rest of us. ENGLAND...ENGLAND...they'll be singing, with as much gusto as those who genuinely take Pride in our National achievements. The problem is I don't expect us to progress out of the bloody group stage, let alone any further. I so to all those who say 'it don't matter', fair enough... stick to your guns, put your balls out and don't watch. You won't be missed. . This is it for me. You know all the inward hatred towards the England team would come to a screeching hault if we spuffed our way into a semi.
Bert Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Obviously for me, it's Leicester. But I would love to see England be a successful national team.
Tommeh Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 World Cup. Can only laugh at those saying survival. I get some of you are club over country but come on

One Legged Beaver Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 This is a no brainer, Leicester every time! Now if you were to say England to go plummeting out of the group stage with a -20 goal difference that might intrigue me
svensson Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Its small minded to think of anything other than an England win, international > domestic.
Manwell Pablo Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 I didn't revert to speaking Spanish out of national empathy with the Spaniards! I think you missed the point. No, it's not purely English, but then I don't support any other nation either. And seeing as it's England we're discussing... I haven't missed your point you've obviously done it to avoid having to converse with the little Englanders in question, I was just being pedantic. But it's a world wide problem, so I don't see why the actions of a few idiots leads to you tarring a whole footballing nation with the same brush. Especially when other western European nations are just as bad, Eastern European nations are far fcking worse, and world wide there would be few country's who could claim they have less morons than us, especially since most of the real offenders have had their right to travel during major tournaments taken away...... It's like Club football, every club has it's idiots. A mate of mine was at one of our games in the mid 00's when Mark De Vries was played a through ball which he decided to not bother running for, someone three rows in front of him shouted "you'd of chased that if it was a bunch of bananas you lazy cvnt". I'd consider us one of the best fan bases for anti racism due to ethnic make up of Leicester but there are always a few. If you can't put up with the minority of football fans being idiots time to start following a different sport. If you have a problem with nationalism you have a problem with international football not England.
Fox Ulike Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Easy… A World Cup win would be (probably) a once-in-a-lifetime event… A golden moment for the whole nation that would keep us all warm into our dotage… whereas Premiership status can be regained even if we go down next season. A more difficult question would have been an England WC Win or the Foxes winning the Premiership. However, since the only way we’d win the Prem would be through ££££s of Thai investment, rather than by the sweat and grit of us Leicester folk, I think I’d still pick the WC win…
indierich06 Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 First of all, I don't even know why we're debating this because the chances of this England beating the best in the world and winning the World Cup are slim-to-none, whereas Leicester have a great opportunity to push on from Championship promotion. I've got absolutely no interest in the England team - much like a lot of the players that make up our so called 'team' at the minute. Yeah, players like Rooney, Gerrard and Terry give it all the lip service about what an honour it is to be called up and how they're proud to represent their country, but it's all bollocks. Give them a choice between club and country and they wouldn't give the national side a second thought, so why should I? Nowadays, international football isn't seen as the pinnacle of your footballing career, it's almost like a sideshow or an inconvenience. You can see it written on their faces when they half-heartedly mumble their way through the national anthem before they labour through the group stages before slumping to defeat in some mediocre 1st knockout round game. Where's the blood and thunder? Where's the passion? Where's the effort? It's non-existent. There are a few players in there who seem genuinely proud to play for the side, like Joe Hart and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but they're in the minority. When I go to watch City play now, under Nigel Pearson, I know that I might not see the best football, I know that I might see my team lose, but I also know that I will see 11 men put their body on the line for my club and put in a committed performance. This is coming from players like Lloyd Dyer who, for the most part, doesn't really have any affiliation with my club or my city, but they're proud to put on that Blue jersey every week - which makes it all the more reprehensible that we have a team of 11 Englishmen who simply don't give us the same when they SHOULD have that connection. Look at Liam Moore - the bloke is living the dream, playing with a smile on his face, doing whatever he can to further the cause of his team. He understands what it means to play for Leicester and he knows how it feels to be a fan in the crowd, all wishing they could be the ones pulling on that Leicester shirt every week. Can you name me a single English player who plays with the passion of someone like Moore when he's playing for Leicester? No, because they simply don't have that passion in them. They're a bunch of millionaires trotting out the same old platitudes and excuses, before they trundle back off to their paymasters - the ones who sign their extortionate cheques, the ones who their hearts really belong to. And THAT is why it's club over country for me, every single time.
nickelbyfox Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 This could be an endless debate Yep agreed - what a good poll question
Guest Col city fan Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 This is it for me. You know all the inward hatred towards the England team would come to a screeching hault if we spuffed our way into a semi.Absolutely. As I said earlier, I fully expect those who claim to have no interest in the England team to suddenly become interested in the England team. Its always happened before... flags come out, banners appear in windows and the nation starts to become eager to see how we do. I still remember the Euro's under El Tel.. that was a great time to be an England fan.For me, it all depends upon how we do. If we play some good football, get out of our 'group of death' and progress, interest will rise and rise, the further we go in the competition. For those who genuinely don't give a toss.. it don't worry me. I'd rather they stay behind closed doors, chuckling to themselves over Pearson's trainers or bleating that 'Liam Moore should be in the England squad'.
Raj Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 so some who say England winning its a no brainier....on the other hand some of us saying survival its a no brainer too!!! obviously its a no brainier regarding people having completely different mentalities when it comes to England!!! in my eyes no one is right or wrong.....some blokes like women...some like c0ck....!!!!
Guest Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Amazed anyone said World cup before Prem survival. I thought we'd all be LCFC fans first and foremost. for me there isn't even a moment's hesitation to choose City.
ScouseFox Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/topic/81544-club-or-country/page-3 out of interest that was the first "club vs country" thread i could find in the search. most agree there that club comes before country. i just about agree with that if someone forced me to choose. nobody is saying club over country is a crazy decision, it's the prizes on offer. the WORLD CUP or finishing just ahead of hull, norwich and swansea. come on man.
Raj Posted 21 March 2014 Posted 21 March 2014 Exactly what i meant...the last 2posts sum it up. one can't believe the way the other thinks!!!
