Time for Wood to step in for Nugent?

Been a while since you agreed with me lol;)

Don't be daft! You're a top lad!

I like Wood think he is just as good as Nugent and Vardy and certainly worth keeping for next season, I do wonder if the rumours are true about what happened between him and Pearson at the beginning of his time here would have affected his place in the pecking order this season.

And that means?

Wood is more clinical, whereas Nugent is the workhorse, two completely different types of strikers. i suggest Nugent sits out tomorrow and that's not him being "dropped" that's him being "rested" for when we need him the most

So wrong on so many points. I literally can't be bothered to explain why.

The problem is Wood is our best finisher. I would say it's a close call between him and Super Kev but personally I think Wood just edges. However his all round game isn't quite there and for a big man he doesn't use his size well. Nugent for me hasn't been firing on all cylinders for a while and it would freshen him up to sit out the Yeovil game with Burnley on Saturday in mind. Saying that Wood wouldn't be suited to the deeper role Nugent has been playing so the only logical choice is GTF or Kev. I'd give GTF the start on Tuesday and bring Nugent back in fresh for Saturday.

Sorry, but have you just said Wood is a better finisher than Kevin Phillips? There has been some rubbish spouted on here but that tops the lot.

I'd make a change to the strikers tomorrow to freshen things up a little bit but I wouldn't drop Nugent. I'd rest Vardy to keep him fresh and suspension free for Saturday.

I would start Wood and Nugent. It shouldn't make too much difference the one change up top especially as that partnership served us well for periods last season. I fancy Wood for a few goals tonight if he starts. I think he's looked decent in the cameo roles he's played and has got 1 off the bench recently. The only other change may be forced if De Laets knock is bad then Moore will probably come in. I think we can handle these two changes.

Not getting the anger at Nugent. He was bang average on Saturday but had some good build up play and linked up well enough. His end product was poor though. He's been better in 2014 than 2013 so he may still finish strongly.

Why change an unbeaten team? Play it safe with Vardy and Nugent. It's seemed to work all season. Would introduce Wood into the game later on if things don't go to plan.

Fans really need to stop looking at the scoresheet and assume that Nugent is playing bad because his name isnt on it. Im baffled that this discussion happens every week in countless threads with different titles but talk about the same thing. He is our top scorer and his penalties are his reward for his massive contribution to the rest of the team. I wish fans would broaden their minds and see the bigger picture so they can finally understand that Nugent has actually been one of our best players this season.

I like Nugent a lot. I can admit he's had a poor game every now and then, including on Saturday, but anyone who doesn't realise how integral he has been this season needs their head checking. I just don't understand it. Someone says he plays such an important role and still scores goals despite being a withdrawn striker and the response usually is "he only scores penalties" or "did he win those penalties?". The guy doesn't get nearly enough credit! As someone said, if you're not convinced then go through our highlights this season and you'll see the assists, the counter attacks, the work rate and the skill of some of his goals. People are too quick to focus on the bad rather the good. There's a hell of a lot of good in there! He's a very good player at this level. I have doubts about his ability in the Premier League but the same can be said about a lot of our players. He did look tired at the end on Saturday but unless Nige thinks it's necessary to rest him or any other players we will be playing the same XI against Yeovil tonight!

Wood is a good player but, I'd stick with Nugent for know altough he was crap against Blackburn on Saturday. Nuge could very well be a useful player in the Prem for us. But, I'd give Wood a run out when we seal promotion. But, why change a top strike force in Nugent and Vardy atm ?

I'm struggling to see what Wood offers to the team. I hope it goes right for him one day, but he rarely impresses me if I'm honest.

I agree that he isn't better than Phillips but he's easily a better finisher than Nugent or Vardy. It's his main saving grace. Problem is - with him in the side, we don't actually create nearly as much.

It's all well and good saying "lets change the side for tonight as we have a bigger game at the weekend".....but surely, if we change the side tonight and lose, then the result at Burnley becomes even more critical.

We need to win one game at a time.  So tonight, put the best team that is available on the pitch.  If we pick up bookings and suspensions, then on saturday, we put out the best team that is available, ad finitum until the end of the season.

Simple.

This.

People say he got 20 last season but 9 were for Millwall and 3 came in one game at Bristol City. It was the least impressive hat-trick ever. There's been some occasions where can control it further than I can kick it.

Nugent and Vardy whenever they're fit with cameos from GTF and Super Kev. I'm not even convinced we should keep Wood for next season.

But you fail to see the point that his 20 last season would be far more impressive than nugent getting 20, as Dave would need us to get 5 more penalties and convert them all for him to get there, as at this point i feel to see him scoring in open play again this season.

The problem i have with nugent is not just the penalties, his pulling out of every single 50/50, his shot every game that goes out for a throw or his 3-4 more touches required by himself in comparison to others and slowing the play down, but instead a variety of all of the previous.

I don't agree that Wood is the answer, as that would not get the best out of Vardy. The saving grace for Nugent is that the only GTF would be considered by NP to play where Nuge plays, and i cannot see them swapping despite GTF impressing me with every appearance.

Personally i wouldn't have minded pearson to change things when 3-0 up in past weeks to something like this..

...knocky.....mahrez....dyer

..................vardy

But unfortunately he never tried it, so we will never know if it would work or not.

My negative opinion of Nugent doesn't come from the stats which when compared to his previous seasons is down. (no pens dont count, dont waste your breath trying to tell me otherwise)

His performances are lazy and his workrate is highly over exaggerated.

Your satirical posts entertain me. :D

Keep with Nugent and Vardy, Wood didnt seem to do much. Still a good sub choice.

I'm feeling for Nugent, we all know he can do so much better but he's incredibly frustrating at times.

We definitely need a new striker in the premiership.
