Time for Wood to step in for Nugent?

Not much to say that hasn't already been said - Nuge and Vardy complement each other well. Not the tallest front two but their link-up play is great.

Wood seems to sit deep whenever he comes on, which leaves us 4-4-1-1 and in my eyes slows our game down. He's wasted as a target man, because he wants to get forward more himself but that belays his role as a supporting striker. It's understandable given he was used to playing in a conventional 4-4-2 last year with Nuge, but to be frank, he needs to accept that it's a team game and his job is to provide when he comes off the bench. He's netted the odd one this season, and we know he does a job when he is an out-and-out striker, but at other times his positioning hasn't been great and he's looked absent - in two minds between providing and going up himself.

I do agree that it'd have to be Nuge who comes off for him at the moment, as Vardy offers more with his pace, but in all honesty I think Phillips and Taylor-Fletcher are better options at present as they can fit into our system more seamlessly. GTF in particular works Nuge's role of provider well, if not quite so gracefully (but debatably with a better pass rate?) We change our game pattern to accomodate Wood, whereas it's the same stuff, albeit at a slower pace, with either of the Dad's Army on the pitch.

I would rest Vardy for Yeovil if anyone as well as to prevent him getting booked.

Can see it being the same team though.

Why change a thing vs Yeovil. We should play our best team to get 3 pts and that much closer to promotion. At this point I'd love for us to come in first but automatic has to be our number one goal. You cannot take any team lightly.

This. Yeovil's back four would sh*t a brick against Vardy's pace, but he'd only have to get carried away once to cock up his chance of appearing on Saturday. Would personally start Phillips, worth a go, see how long he lasts.

agree with this. and with the idea of starting phillips, always looks very composed when he comes on, may lack pace nowadays, but his movement and positioning are second to none.

Been Following these forums for a long time but only recently became a member, Ive noticed Chris wood get some stick for being out of form etc.

I think maybe Chris wood should start for Nugent, its been a good few games now since David has last scored, i would check to be exact but i think its been 4.

Chris wood will be lucky to get 20 mins a game and davids had over 300 mins and not scored chris has scored some belters for New Zealand and i think given 90 mins he would score.

I think Yeovill will be a perfect time for it.

This again..

Our success has been based upon a high, pressing game and the partnership between Nuge and Vardy has been a big factor in this. He's also our top goal-scorer. Why on earth drop him?

Have people actually watched us this year, Nugent plays a withdrawn striker role, the only natural replacement we have is GTF. Wood is more a replacement for Vardy in respects that he leads the line like Vardy, albeit in a different manner.

Spot on.. clearly people haven't been watching.

I don't dislike nugent but remember vardy is our top goal scorer from open play , he also won the majority of those penaltys that nugent put away , nugent is a great player however I would Deffo rest him for Saturdays game against burnley !!

I'm lost... I really am..

So, in one breath, he's a 'great player', in the next you'd rest him against our rivals for the title?

Why?

In fact, leave it.. I don't want to know..

lol

And Vardy could tell you that Nugent has been part of many of his goals too.

If I see one more nugent thread there will be blood.

Nugent does his supporting role brilliantly and it always goes unnoticed, the guy is pivotal in our build up play and linking the midfield and attack. Check the highlights from recent weeks and see how involved Nugent is with every goal.

Wham...smack between the eyes. Top post, .......and last sentence says everything.

Nugent has been both top, then unseen hero, his running off players or off the ball has been tremendous, Ive only

seen it on TV or streaming, surely it must be even more obvious to people at the games, very unselfish and, top club servant

and player.Covers more ground than some midfield players.

Nugent has helped us win about 20 points this season by himself.

I don't see any thanks for that, instead he gets slated, and people want him dropped.

If it wasn't for him, I bet we would be 3rd or 4th.

Nugent has 19 goals and 13 assists this season. And if we're just taking the league into account, he's got 17 goals and 12 assists. So of the 69 goals we've scored, Nugent's been directly involved with 29 of them, or 42.03%.

I think his record speaks for itself.

In my opinion Wood is better than Nugent and needs to play to develop and I can see him being a premier league striker. His time will come but he needs a run of games. Look what he did at Birmingham and Millwall when on loan and playing every week.  He also started off well here. Coming on as a sub with twenty minutes to go is hard to make your self look good.

I've always said Vardy and Wood would be the best partnership but Nugent has done well this season and hasn't deserved to be dropped.

Nugent plays such a significant role in the side that if he has a bad game he looks awful when we all know he's a very good footballer at this level.

Now, whether his recent form is down to fatigue or not is down to the manager but I personally feel tomorrow night would be a good opportunity to rest him aswell as some other sqad members ahead of what is, undoubtedly, the biggest game we've had since Forest away last season. It's all well and good to not change a successful side, but we can't keep putting the same 11 out 3 times a week expecting them to run their socks off for 90 minutes.

I don't know why people have to get so defensive about him (or why some people feel the need to attack him) more than other members of the squad. He's really out of form at the moment and a quick rest before we play Burnley (a club he likes to score against) would be beneficial to him and the team in my opinion.

I think Wood has waited for his chance patiently and I don't think it'd weaken the side to bring him in for what should be a simple game. Lets not forget, this man scored 20 goals in the league last season.

scored goals against Japan, more goals than Nugent scored in that game

And that means?

I would like to see our best 11 for the Yeovil and Burnley games then make changes for the Wigan and Sheff Wed matches.....4games in 10 days is going to need a squad effort.

The most underrated and unappreciated player at the club. Take away his contributions and see where we'd be in the league

I agree.

One of the most ridiculous issues that has been raised over the past season has been on David Nugent. I simply cannot even begin to see where his critics come from and what on earth they are on about.
