queensguardfox Posted 26 March 2014 Author Posted 26 March 2014 Its just a shame the forwards were average yesterday if i'm honest,You can argue the midfield provided them with nothing. But i think Yeovil and Blackburn was the right time to have a blip, because i would rather win to burnley and win against Yeovil and Blackburn any day. But its Football and anything can happen, Nugent might score them both against burnley. Of coarse we cant win them all, and we 'should' of won yesterday but i'm not looking to much into it. If worse come to worse we always have Kasper to get us a goal on Saturday! COYB
yorkie1999 Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Why doesn't Wood jump ? he's the only player i've seen who's actually lower down when he jumps up for a header.
Jimmy Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 the rest of the world don't see a tall striker and just teach him to head and that's it, Wood is a finisher not a target man
Babylon Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 I don't think Nugent was woeful. Neither he nor Vardy had ANYYHING to feed off Exactly... pointless in moaning about strikers in a game the midfield were completely incapable of passing to each other, let alone giving decent service to the forwards.
kingcarr21 Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Few fans being a bit harsh on the strikers. they had very little to work off with Yeovil closing down our midfield at every opportunity. Bring on Burnley as i believe it will be a great game with us coming away with the 3 points
Socks Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Nuge and Jamie better turn up on Saturday, if not put on phillips and wood otherwise its second place still 13 points clear of 3rd so still think well go up
Dickov22 Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 the rest of the world don't see a tall striker and just teach him to head and that's it, Wood is a finisher not a target man You're missing the point though. All strikers should be able to make a jump, a challenge to win a header, or even win it! Nugent does, Vardy does. Wood doesn't and he's taller and much bigger than both of them.

Wood doesn't and he's taller and much bigger than both of them. except he does win headers, when its not an aimless lump forward, we always do that to tall players then wonder why they don't win enough headers, he attacked won and "scored" with a header last night for example, and won a couple of other headers but Phillips and him were too far apart to benefit

I'm not anti Wood at all, I've said he's looked really sharp most times I've seen him this season. He really needs to learn how to jump properly when the ball is played up to him, though. It's his main weakness.
Jimmy Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 you try running 30 yards across the pitch then try to time your jump to win and aimless lump with a CB coming from the back of you ...
chris_lcfc_85 Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Wood is a quality player that is still very young. Harsh to be moaning at him when he's barely had any game time and last two games, Vardy has missed 2 x SITTERS! Credit to him for following up as well when most stopped, he managed to force it over the line so there was no dispute
Dickov22 Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 you try running 30 yards across the pitch then try to time your jump to win and aimless lump with a CB coming from the back of you ... Sorry, but that's his job.
Jimmy Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Sorry, but that's his job. well no, his job is to play football and score goals, not just head a ball, if that's all you want get Whitbread back and play him as a target man
Dickov22 Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 well no, his job is to play football and score goals, not just head a ball, if that's all you want get Whitbread back and play him as a target man Jesus, I give up. As I've said numerous times over the last few months: I like Wood, he's a handful. He's looked sharp. He can count himself really unlucky to have not played more games. His major weakness though is in the air- for a bloke of his size and physical presence he should JUMP more, and be more of a threat in the air. Obviously, we don't want to be playing hoof ball to him. But sometimes, needs must and in the last minutes of a game this is what we sometimes have to resort to. He has to do better when the ball is played up to him in the air. That's all I'm saying. Same as Vardy has to do better with one on ones. Same as Nugent has to cause defenders more of a problem than he did last night. Not Wood bashing at all.
RizLCFC Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 In all fairness to wood, you cannot go from hardly getting a kick of the ball all season, and expect him to be amazing, to me tonight he looked like a player who needs match fitness, and the only way he will improve is with a run of games. Kevin Phillips and even GTF have come on as subs and made a bigger impact. I do think using him as a target man is totally the wrong thing, he looks much better when we play it into his feet.
Manwell Pablo Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 No because if he had Vardy would have been offside. ....flag stayed down so no he wouldn't

I feel for him as he's got the best touch and vision out of all of them yet barely gets used
dayday Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 I don't think Nugent was woeful. Neither he nor Vardy had ANYYHING to feed off, apart from Vardy's tame effort where he clearly felt he must have been offside. The problem tonight was the supply. Knocky and Mahrez provided the front two with the arse end of nothing. And Wood IMO made little difference to that. I personally think Wood is over-rated by many and have done for ages. Here lies the problem,we cannot cater for both Knockaert and Mahrez in the same starting 11,our midfield has struggled since they have both played..need to bring Dyer back.

Dan Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 Comes on, rescues a point for us in a game in which by all accounts we've been pretty shocking, and all we get is people hoping that he isn't given the goal because they don't like him Or they realised he actually played awfully? We rely on players who have a lot of useful attributes - Wood doesn't. He continues to fail to use his physique to his advantage. We haven't got a single forward who is good in the air.

That's my point. We're not Barcelona- sometimes the ball is in the air funnily enough.
Jimmy Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 give him a cross to attack he'll be great he's not a target man so stop asking him to do something he cannot do, play it to feet or chest not 3 feet over his head
Dan Posted 26 March 2014 Posted 26 March 2014 you're bitching that he doesn't win headers from lumped balls, well he's an idea STOP LUMPING THE BALL UP TO HIM THEN!!! its not bloody rocket science Yeovil defended excellently for a lot of the game. They completely stopped us playing all over the park. We were always going to end up going long. We aren't Barcelona. As much as I'd want us to, we cannot glue the ball to the floor. You're making excuses for something that doesn't deserve excusing. There is absolutely no reason someone of his height and strength should be so inept in the air. He even failed to win one header when he was unmarked. Wood is far too limited to be effective in our side. Tell you who he reminds me of - Yakubu. Both are goal poachers - but that shouldn't stop him being unable to jump. We will at Burnley I think Vardy is more than decent in the air But he should do more in the air. That's my point. We're not Barcelona- sometimes the ball is in the air funnily enough. Vardy isn't bad but you wouldn't say he's great. Steve Howard was the last forward we had who was good in the air.
