LeicesterBran Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 How do you guys think he'll do in the Premiership, can he be consistent in the top flight. ?I think he can if we use him as an Attacking Midfielder if we play a 4-2-3-1 formation with Mahrez and another winger preferably Atsu with Knockaert in the hole behind the striker. Reckon he can be a quality PL player but,he lacks pace when he plays out wide so the lad can't cut it on the flanks in the Premiership. So we'll need a winger like Atsu with some pace and skill.

............... Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Lack of pace will be his biggest downfall, hopefully he can make up for it with sheer talent.
Silverdaz Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Yes his lack of pace is his biggest drawback he might have to get used to being an impact player next season as I think Mahrez will be the star for us next season, as for the player just behind the striker I can see Drinkwater doing this leaving us Mahrez on one side then another player (with pace) on the opposite side
Dan Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 I think he'll be fine. I've got to admit I've more faith in Mahrez to step up as he's a more athletic player as well as skillful, but I think over time Knockaert will be fine. It's easy to forget he's still only a youngster really.
Captain... Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Are we talking about Knocky or Atsu? I am disappointed that NP hasn't used these dead rubber games to try a 4231 with Mahrez, Knocky, Dyer playing behind Nuge or Wood. I think that could be a good formation to play.
Swalker Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Yes he's not the fastest but he's by far not the slowest! Look at snodgrass, Milner there are wingers who aren't the fastest! Also why would we change from a system that got us promoted, surely we should start the season playing a similar system that made us champions

I'm surprised he's not even tried it.
LCFC FOX Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 I think the premiership will be better for Knockaert, he'll be allowed more time on the ball and he will be able to create. We will see some of skill that he did when he first signed.

I could see him playing the role you suggest in the future, but don't think he's ready for it yet. For someone so technically gifted and with such quick feet, he's surprisingly poor at getting a decent shot on goal. Unless his shooting improves, then we might not score enough as a team, playing 1 striker and Knocky in the hole behind him. However, he's a young player who's still improving, so he might be able to step up to that role in 6 or 12 months....who knows, maybe even August, if he makes the right improvements to his game during pre-season....but I doubt he'd manage it that quick. His game this season has already improved on last season - better ball retention and fewer reckless passes (though still room to improve), better passing for team, better tackling, fewer reckless challenges, better self-control, excellent work ethic. Wouldn't surprise me if he starts next season making appearances from the bench, but forces his way into the team as the season progresses.

We will see some of skill that he did when he first signed. Disagree with the second part, that was probably true a few years ago, but know a lot more teams play a high pressing game, or park the bus and give players no time in the final third. I do think that despite him not being lightning fast, he isn't slow, and he has the intelligence and ability to play in our other players and make some space for himself, but he will have to learn when to try and beat his man, and when to play the conservative ball. We will get punished more in the prem for giving the ball away cheaply.

Drinkwater's game is about dictating the game from deep and injecting the impetuous into the attack whereas the Number 10 role is about creativity through invention or being able to drift into gaps in the defensive lines. Knocky for the first point and King for the second. Why ruin something that's working perfectly well. I think that with Knocky, it could all be about adding a fraction to his pace. Baring in mind he's the fastest over 5 metres which is an important attribute for the role behind the striker(s), if he works on that side of his game he could be a serious hit in the PL.

Im sure we have tried Drinkwater in the hole this season and it worked very well for us especially if say you have Hammond and James as the denfensive midfielders
Dickov22 Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Can't wait to see Knocky in the prem. What he lacks in pace he makes up for with desire.
ealingfox Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 He's got a dilemma; either work very, very hard on his shooting over the summer, or stop taking a shot from wherever he happens to get the ball every 3 minutes. Otherwise he will embarrass himself.
Will1981 Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 pace isn't everything our best winger ever Steve Guppy was not the quickest but more than made up for it with his crossing.
Donut Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 pace isn't everything our best winger ever Steve Guppy was not the quickest but more than made up for it with his crossing. Steve Guppy had a sweet left peg though and Knockaert isnt really renowned as a crosser of the ball. Likes to come inside. I think he will do ok. I think he will have games where he is totally nullified, but its OK to be inconsistent in my eyes as long as your good is VERY good and produces game changing/point winning moments.
lgfualol Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 I think he will be a bit frustrating on the first few games, he will want to impress and do a bit too much. But eventually he will be okay.
Danno Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Do people actually believe that you get more time on the ball in the premier league
fuchsntf Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Sorry ...all bullshit, crap, and any other detremental words or sentences, any one of you can think off. Why now have we decided to single him out. One reason this site falls on its arse. He can run, so no lack of pace, he is young so he can learn and improve, hes got hell of alot of skill and potential, he is the type one would go out and try and buy. Why oh why should any so called fans now after promotion, start doubting him. My doubts run truthfully over some of the fans quality of support or belief because of their pessimism, before he is given any chance what so ever. What a miserable bunch you lot are.
fuchsntf Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 pace isn't everything our best winger ever Steve Guppy was not the quickest but more than made up for it with his crossing. I rated S.Guppy top player, but not even in the top 5 of City wingers, in fact something in our history we were never short of.
XLM Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Still learning his trade in England. I think Mahrez' arrival threw him a bit as he wasn't the only player of his type any more. This summer will calm him down a bit more and he'll continue to learn. His work rate and decision making has been absolutely fantastic compared to last season.
Dan Posted 30 April 2014 Posted 30 April 2014 Do people actually believe that you get more time on the ball in the premier league Seems like it. Totally ignoring that it's time on the ball the top players make for themselves.
