MC Prussian Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 Schlupp is one of the 3 dropped from squad. Gutted for him but you have to take your chance when its given to you. Maybe next time. There's still the chance of him featuring on a late call-up in the days to come in case of injuries. Anyway, the international experience will do him the world of good. I know it's wishful thinking on my behalf, but if he has the will to emulate what Evra did in his respective career, he can and will go places.
suffolk fox Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 What does Schlupp's situation got to do with Konchesky at Liverpool some three to four years ago? Jeff is 21 now, Konchesky was 28/29 back then. It's not the first time this has been brought up. Personally, I don't see any connection whatsoever. They are two completely different people with different personas and a different career (so far). If you had bothered to read the post, I am saying we do need a new left back next season. Neither Schlupp or Konchesky at left back are good enougth for the premier league. I would like us to sign a left back. Schlupp is only young and will learn and improve in time. Not at the expense of all the oppositions attacks coming down our left flank next season?
XLM Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 Schlupp will get his chance. A few more years at LB; hopefully in the Premiership and he'll be ace.
Dan Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 here a summary of Mahrez's game against Armenia. Did better than expected considering it's his first time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QVnq81pJpY8 He is actually brilliant. I cannot get over how he was playing in the French second tier.

Not at the expense of all the oppositions attacks coming down our left flank next season? I have read your post and it says: "We do need a new left back next season. Schlupp is no left back especially at international or premier league standard. We do need to strengthen in this area. Ask Liverpool fans what they think of Konchesky too he was younger when he played for them in the premiership." Maybe you want to be a bit more specific next time. I was also trying to point out to you that a comparison between Konchesky at Liverpool (at age 28/29) with Schlupp here at the tender age of 21 is pretty much for naught and as far-fetched as it can get. Schlupp is now a whopping seven years younger than the Konchesky you're referring to, so he's got a great career ahead of him (if he improves his defensive abilities). Anything else you'd like to re-phrase?
Kitchandro Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 I think it's a bit harsh selecting 30 and then narrowing it down. Why get players' hopes up just to dash them? Sure you get to see them in training for a few days and maybe a full friendly match if they're lucky but that's hardly going to prove too much. What we did was the better way, pick 23 and have the others as back up.

On a positive note I'm absolutely buzzing to see Mahrez playing in the World Cup now. He looked like an accomplished international in that highlights video.
Dan Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 To be fair I do think this one is a bit early for Schlupp. I think on his day he's a cracking attacking wing back but you're talking of games against sides like Charlton, Ipswich, Millwall etc... the likes of Ikechi Anya and Garath McCleary gave him trouble - for Ghana he would be facing potentially the likes of Muller, Reus, Gotze, Ronaldo, Nani etc... if he was at left back he'd have been tore a new one. He's a player in real transition. As much of a shame it is, I'm not at all surprised he's been cut. No reason he can't go in 2018 though.
docho66 Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 Gutted for Schlupp! It must be so hard getting dropped at this stage. But hey, he is young and developing into a great player. He will have his chance in Russia, I'm sure!
ScouseFox Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 schlupp's game sorta showed that you can have all the physical attributes of a good full back, stocky, strong, good leap on him, very quick etc but if you don't have the positional/mental attributes then there's only so far you can go. he's still young and learning that side and has got so much better since last season but still nowhere near world cup standard it seems. as dan says, it's one thing when we control a game and he's playing more as a wing back than defender and we're battering charlton at home but it's another in the premier league/world cup when he's needing to stay tight and defend well. still a lot of hope that he can get there as he matures but he's not there yet. still there's more world cups and big games in the future.
Fox_in_spain Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 Mahrez being noticed...Spanish journo with AS (one of the Madrid-oriented papers) Julio Maldonado Con cambios de última hora en Argelia para GuÃa AS del mundial. Ojo con el argelino Riyad Mahrez del Leicester que al final va.Mucha calidad ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TRANSLATION: Last minute changes to the Algeria profile for AS' World Cup Guide. Keep an eye out for the Algerian Riyad Mahrez of Leicester who is going in the end. Lots of quality.
Brooksy Posted 1 June 2014 Posted 1 June 2014 Reckon he's gonna star at the WC, some foreign side will come in for him for about £15m and we'll tell 'em to **** off.
Dan Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 We really have found a goldmine in this lad. Recognition from a Madrid-orientated Spaniard. Mahrez has absolutely **** all to do with Madrid. For now
ScouseFox Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 15 mill would barely buy his old dodgy highlights. this kid is dynamite
ScouseFox Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 20/1 for king riyad to be top Algerian goalscorer for all the sensible people out to make a dollar next month
Mikey Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Best thing about Mahrez is in every clip on that video, and since January, he ALWAYS plays with a smile on his face. Clearly absolutely loves taking the piss out of opposition players. Confidence bordering arrogance is a brilliant trait if you play well enough.
ScouseFox Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 20/1 for king riyad to be top Algerian goalscorer for all the sensible people out to make a dollar next month 25/1 on coral. 25 pound profit for every pound on the best player in world football scoring more goals than anyone else algerian. and I thought printing your own money was illegal
Dan Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 20/1 for king riyad to be top Algerian goalscorer for all the sensible people out to make a dollar next month Having some on that. That's got to be worth a few quid.
ScouseFox Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Having some on that. That's got to be worth a few quid. If he is going to start a game or two I don't see why not. They won't get out the group so it'd be very easy for one goal to make him their top scorer, or at least joint top which would still be a nice return. Also gives me some interest in watching Algeria vs South Korea or whatever haha. PaddyPower won't quote me a price on him winning the golden ball for best player unless I ring them. Bastards.

Agree though. St Ledger was Ireland's top (and only) scorer in the Euros. I could see something similar happening. Sadly though he loves an assist
ScouseFox Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Agree though. St Ledger was Ireland's top (and only) scorer in the Euros. I could see something similar happening. Sadly though he loves an assist Yeah he does love a good winding run to set up a team mate for an easy finish to then go on and miss a simple finish himself later on haha. Like you say though if you're picking up 20-25/1 even if you're only throwing some change on it it's got potential considering we know how good the boy is. I'd like to know a bit more about Algeria an their first team an his chances of starting every game, taking a free kick etc before staking any more than a sentimental "GOWED RIYAD" bet.

lgfualol Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 I love schlupp but omg imagine him against Ronaldo. I always thought he'd be a great winger. I'd have him ahead of Konch for next season though, konch can be third choice. We need a proper LB.
Guest MattP Posted 2 June 2014 Posted 2 June 2014 Not remotely surprised on Jeff, got torn to shreads by McClearly so Holland, Germany and Portugal were always going to be a disaster. A lesson to us as well in regard to some of the quality we'll dace next season. Not remotely surprised on Riyaz either, obvious from a very early stage just how much ability this man has. He's going on to big things. Just don't have too good a world cup, don't want you being noticed by everyone just quite yet.
