Good news is he is contracted until 2017, bad news is any talented young players generally have some sort of release clause these days.

I agree with Algeriafan looking at it from a logical point of view, the Spanish league would be the perfect style for him long term. He'd be adored the way they play.

Bit rude of that journalist to assume neither Barca or Real would want him when he's clearly better than anything they have on their wings atm

Just read from an Algerian journalist on twitter that Riyad has been looked at by a top 6 team in La Liga (assumption by the journalist is that it's Sevilla or Villareal). I'd be interested to see what his sources are, because I've had a quick look around and haven't found anything, but this guy is reliable so I wouldn't be surprised if there's something in it. Bad news for Leicester, but I guess you guys probably need to expect more if he carries on playing like he has recently. I'll keep you updated on source etc.

What a difference six months make! This is such a steep and swift career development - fantastic. Well chuffed for Riyad and I hope we play hard bargain with interested clubs.

I'd think less of clubs if they hadn't spotted him by now.

Riyad won't be leaving this summer. When we storm the league next year and finish mid-table he won't want to leave then. In three years we'll be top 5.

Sevilla and Spain's top 6 better barricade their doors because we'll be coming for their players, the plebs!

Riyad Mahrez is undoubtedly one of the surprises of the National Team for the World Cup.There are still a few months, nobody could have predicted that the resident of Leicester would know such a rise in record time and it would integrate quickly if the Greens for this world in the land of samba football. And as in football, there is no matter of chance but rather work pays off, 123algeriasport offers to return to the unusual career of this young player who will play his first world while there has hardly 6 months was still evolving in Ligue 2 Le Havre. You will discover the reasons that led him to make the attempt in England and how since he became the darling of Algerian fans.

The kid Sarcelles

Mahrez was initiated early in football through his father who encouraged and given the desire of the sport. He started in his hometown club Sarcelles, before being spotted in 2009 by the club Quimper changing then CFA. There remains a season in which he played 27 games and are registered 2 goals. But Mahrez has ambition and aiming even higher. In 2010, so he went knocking different club everywhere in France such as Lens, OM (his club heart) or PSG.

HAC: A chance for progress

In Lens, we realigned as "too frail" but Paris and Marseille are very interested in his profile and follow closely. To everyone's surprise, Mahrez finally decided to join the Havre (Ligue 2) came to play disorders party last minute. And this choice has paid since 6 months later he joined the first team and signed his first professional contract in 2011.

However, his coach at the time will not call him too rarely judging him as "too frail to league 2."It was not until the following season (2012-2013) and with the arrival of a new coach Erick Mombaerts that Mahrez turns and becomes the holder of the right wing of Le Havre areas. This season he will play 34 games 4 goals and 6 assists.

During the winter transfer window of the 2013-2014 season, many clubs in France and abroad are interested in him, but only two clubs make an offer: Torino in Italy and Leicester, England.

Leicester: the winning bet

Torino Leicester and then engage in a duel to the distance to provide the services of young midfielder. Leicester, which follows nearly a year and a half does not want to let go and is far superior to that of Torino offers. Mahrez but hesitates, at that time, he did not want to leave France.

Then he receives a phone call a few particular ... a one of a Djamel Abdoun, former international who calls himself to convince him to join England explaining that the English game is for him.Mahrez lets himself convinced and takes off for a new adventure on the other side of the Channel. Pay a decision since the Algerian is perfectly suited to the style of the English game and had a good second half of the season with three goals including an absolutely gorgeous face Blackpool (voted best goal of the year in Leicester) and 4 assists.

The next season, a new challenge awaits and then know what is for him the best league in the world, the Premier League. Mahrez will confront at some of Europe's biggest teams, which should enable it to grow even more in contact with the best players in the world of football.

EN: to honor his father

"My father, Allah yerahmou has always wanted me to play for Algeria"

Riyad Mahrez could wear the colors of Algeria in 2011 with the selection but the U23 coach at the time was not very interested in a new recruit. A few years later, Rouraoua accelerates the process to ensure its arrival in the Greens. Indeed, it was a choice between several selections (Morocco) and could slip through the fingers of the FAF. Nevertheless, it shows reassuring him no hesitation: "My choice was for Algeria them call me before or after I would have said yes for Algeria."

Vahid Halilhodzic, seduced by the player, convenes on May 12 in his screening before the world and invite him to take part in training to Sidi Moussa. Satisfied by the delivery and quality of the player, he will even him tenure for the first friendly match against Armenia Greens May 31During this match, Mahrez brilliantly illustrated and show the full extent of his talent. It was at the origin of 2 goals Algerians. His technical skills and speed have impressed the Algerian public but also his coach, which states: .. "Mahrez did an excellent match He proved that he is a player who can make a difference even without the ball is someone technical but also that of physical force. Moreover, when the action of the second goal, he eliminated his vis-à-vis with ease before serving Nabil Ghilas who added the second goal. " A beautiful delivery crowned by a summons in his list of 23 players who will go to Brazil for the World Cup.

Mahrez also took part in the second match against Romania, this time he came off the bench but again it is perfectly illustrated for playing time which was granted and was in all the right moves .

Reinforcement of choice for Algeria who can not do without its features at the World which he participated and hope it will bring all its freshness to help Algeria to the second round for the first time in its history.

Sarcelles Brazil Mahrez always keeps his head on his shoulders and knows that to happen he could rely on him even there. Indeed, it has the distinction of never having a training center. He is a player who owes his success solely to his talent, his hard work and his dedication. It is an example of a player who has worked hard to get where he is today is. Despite a treacherous route, he was able to make a good tribute to her father disappeared, and the best possible way

Even though it was grammatically challenging to read because of verbatim translation apps, that was a damn good article.

We now have a desert fox in our ranks. Destiny lol

And his first goal was against Forest, and Abdoun was an unused substitute. lol

Tremendous.

I love Algeria. I hope they lose to England in the final.

Gary Sike column: Riyad Mahrez one of select few to fly the Leicester City flag at World Cup

Congratulations are in order for Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez, who goes from Foxes to Desert Foxes having secured his World Cup place in the Algeria squad this week.

The 23-year-old joins a fairly select group who have flown the City flag at World Cup finals tournaments.

You have to go back 60 years to find the first, inauspicious, example of this when City goalkeeper Johnny Anderson was chosen as 'stand-by' for the Scotland squad in 1954.

However, Anderson's passport went unopened as he didn't even travel to Switzerland.

Four years later, defender Willie Cunningham did travel to Sweden and played in every Northern Ireland game as they progressed through Pool One (West Germany, Czechoslovakia and Argentina) and also in the 4-0 defeat at the hands of France in the quarter-final.

Also there in Sweden in 1958 was City striker Ken Leek, but he didn't make an appearance for Wales.

In 1962, Gordon Banks was another 'stand-by' keeper who didn't make it on to the plane to Chile, but he more than made up for that four years later.

In 1966 he played in every one of England's six games, against Uruguay, Mexico, France, Argentina, Portugal and West Germany, and did a jig of joy in his yellow shirt on the Wembley turf holding the Jules Rimet trophy aloft.

This glorious moment really should be represented as a statue outside the King Power Stadium.

There was a very long wait for more City representation after that, with no City players at Mexico 70, West Germany 74 or Argentina 78, until John O'Neill made a brief substitute's appearance in Northern Ireland's Group D defeat against France at Spain 82.

He was more established the next time out, playing in every group game against Algeria, Spain and Brazil in Mexico 86.

O'Neill's City team-mate Paul Ramsey was also on that trip, but didn't make an appearance.

Gary McAllister had just moved to Leeds when he travelled to Italia 90 with Scotland, so we can't claim him, while the Republic of Ireland's David Kelly was in Jack Charlton's squad, and got to meet the Pope, but didn't make an appearance for his country.

Of Martin O'Neill's side, Matt Elliott and Kasey Keller went to France 98. Keller played in goal for the USA against Germany and Iran, but Elliott never made it off the bench for Scotland.

Possibly laying claim to the second-most illustrious City World Cup moment – Muzzy Izzet made it on to the field for the last 17 minutes of Turkey's 2-0 semi-final defeat against Brazil in the Japan/South Korea 2002 tournament.

And that was that – just 18 appearances in total.

With no City players at Germany 2006 or South Africa 2010, that was the end of the story until Mahrez's good news this week.

The very best of luck to him, let's hope he can write another chapter in what is a fairly slim tome up to now.

Not read this thread for a few days but thanks to Algeriafan for giving us Algerian football knowledge! I would have had no idea about who Mahrez was competing with on the wing and what his chances are like, or what formation Algeria plan to play against the 3 teams in their group.

My interest has seriously gone up when it comes to Algeria games - I mean, it was stupendously high because of the Mahrez inclusion, but I wouldn't be surprised if I find myself unknowingly cheering Algeria more than England. Will probably happen subconsciously but regardless, I really hope Mahrez shines over the next month or so. I'd love him to do a Maradona-esque run from the half-way line vs all of the Belgian 'stars'. I'd go batshit crazy.

Won't be cheering for them over England, no chance, but I must admit I'd have no complaints if he scored past us lol

I'm pretty sure Frank Sinclair played for Jamaica in the 98 world cup, was he with us then?

He moved to us from Chelsea just after the 1998 World Cup.

I didn't know how better to phrase it lol.

Obviously I'll be cheering for England. No doubt about that.

But I meant when Algeria play, I'll be cheering for them more than I usually would.

Got Japan and Algeria in the work sweepstake, so yeah, I'll be fully rooting for Riyad and co!

Just hope that if he has a good tournament then we can keep him over the summer. He's probably the player I'm most excited about for next season.

LEICESTER ACADEMY CHIEF RUDKIN: RIYAD MAHREZ AN INSPIRATION

Leicester City academy director Jon Rudkin is confident they can produce Premier League ready talent.

Rudkin said City players Riyad Mahrez and Jeffrey Schlupp were role models to the players currently coming through the academy.

"It is great for the football club to see Riyad go and perform in theWorld Cup," he told the Leicester Mercury. "I am also delighted for Liam and Jeff, who have come through the academy system to be part of a squad that achieved so much last season in attaining Premier League football.

"Alongside that, their international recognition has been the icing on the cake.

"Jeff is probably saddened at not being in the World Cup, but to have gone so close is another good achievement for such a young player. It is pleasing to see their progress and it demonstrates that, no matter what the age of the player, we have a football club and a manager who is certainly going to put the young players on the main stage.

"They wouldn't have got the international recognition without that stage.

"Those opportunities to play international football come through your performances for the club. They have achieved that through their work and progress within the first-team squad this season. It has a significant impact."
