Algeriafan Posted 4 June 2014 Posted 4 June 2014 Ok, I'm now convinced that Vahid will get the message and see what I see; Mahrez has a great chance of starting now, whether we play a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1. So just to put things into perspective. The guy that normally plays LW for us played up front (Soudani). He got a goal, and I think he'll probably play there at the world cup, opening up the LW position, especially considering Slimani (who's had a good season for Sporting and is normally our starter up front) missed some really easy chances when he came on. Djabou, the guy who started this game at LW, had a good game, setting up our first goal with some great play, but Mahrez has more to his game. Mahrez is quicker, more direct and probably just as technical and he showed that when he came om. I'm more convinced than ever that Mahrez will start every game in our group stage. Today, we sat back a little deeper than normal, not pressing from the front quite as much as we normally do. Romania had 67% Possession and 5 shots, 1 on target. We had 37% Possession and 16 shots of which 6 were on target. That for me highlights the game plan against Belgium, sit back, let them have the ball, and break quickly. In our last two games, we have shown we can create chances at will and Mahrez will be key to that counter attacking style against Belgium with his pace. And on a side note, this is definitely not going to be like the 2010 team. There will be goals in our games, both for us and against us. We struggled slightly defensively today, and I hope we tighten up, because if we defend like that against Belgium, they'll score 3/4 quite easily. I think we'll be a pleasant team to watch this world cup for the neutrals, especially for Leicester City fans (though with Mahrez in our team, not sure i'd classify you guys as neutrals).
ScouseFox Posted 4 June 2014 Posted 4 June 2014 du du du du du du du du du du du du du du riyad mahrezzzzzzzzz
Dan Posted 4 June 2014 Posted 4 June 2014 I am genuinely going to make specific effort to watch all of Algeria's games. Tell me I'm not the only one who has visualised everyone hyping up Belgium and then Algeria beat them 0-1 through Mahrez running from his own half, gliding past players like they aren't there (like he does), rounding Courtois and tapping in to stun the world.
Algeriafan Posted 4 June 2014 Posted 4 June 2014 Haha, that would be quite something. I think the most exciting thing for all of us, specifically for the Belgium game, is that Belgium don't have full backs. They play centre backs in both of their full back positions (Vertonghen/Vermaelan at LB and Alderweireld). I don't want to get ahead of myself, and definitely not saying we'll beat Belgium, but Mahrez can definitely capitalise on that, which is by far Belgium's weakest spot.
ScouseFox Posted 4 June 2014 Posted 4 June 2014 fúcking hell riyad is going to win the world cup by himself and then win us the league and i cannot wait

Dan Posted 4 June 2014 Posted 4 June 2014 I really do wonder if we'd gone up in 2012/13 and if he'd had a solid season in the top flight then he would be in the squad. You rightly say full back is their weakness. I'm liking the sound of Algeria. Group H could genuinely be an interesting group if you look at them all.

Thanks for your posts, I can only speak for myself but my knowledge of Algerian football is VERY limited !!...its great to get an insight from a slightly different perspective.

No worries at all. Leicester City played a massive part in uncovering this gem of a player, you guys deserve to enjoy his World Cup just as much as us Algerians.
K1FOX Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 This guy is one of the most exciting players we've had since Knockaert! (We're getting good at this)

kingcarr21 Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 its great to have another team to support in the world cup. Really hope Mahrez does something special
Algeriafan Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 Just read from an Algerian journalist on twitter that Riyad has been looked at by a top 6 team in La Liga (assumption by the journalist is that it's Sevilla or Villareal). I'd be interested to see what his sources are, because I've had a quick look around and haven't found anything, but this guy is reliable so I wouldn't be surprised if there's something in it. Bad news for Leicester, but I guess you guys probably need to expect more if he carries on playing like he has recently. I'll keep you updated on source etc.
Freeman's Wharfer Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 Maher Mezahi @MezahiMaher · 12m I'm assuming Barcelona and neither Madrid side are interested in Mahrez. Bilbao only recruit Basque. Sevilla? Villareal? Maher Mezahi @MezahiMaher · 16m Riyad Mahrez scouted by a top 6 side in Spain. Leicester will be reluctant to let him go, but what an ascent on his part.

Like I said, he's reliable. He wouldn't report anything unless he's obtained it from a source and assessed reliability of that source (obviously he may make an error in judgement on that aspect).

Was one of the reasons (albeit slefish) I wanted him to fly under the radar and not get noticed too quickly by being picked for the WC. However long we keep him though it's been a pleasure and we'll make a big profit on him for what we paid.
Algeriafan Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 Not surprising at all. Just give us one season with him the prem at least pls big clubs I don't want him to move. The Premier League is the most competitive league in the world, he should stay. He's also settled in nicely and I'd expect him to play a key part in your season. Game time is very important for someone of his age. Leicester City made an offer for him when no one else did (no other big team that is - a team challenging for promotion to the Premier League is a big team when compared with Ligue 2 teams) and for that reason he has a moral obligation to stay at Leicester (if that even means anything these days). Long term though, I think La Liga would be a great move for him. It really is the league to play in for technically gifted attacking players. But I don't think he should make that move now, and if he does stay and Leicester have a good season and improve the rest of the squad, no reason why we won't see Mahrez staying for a few years to come.
Happy Fox Posted 5 June 2014 Author Posted 5 June 2014 Not a chance he will leave for Sevilla or Villareal cannot see that happening.
Algeriafan Posted 5 June 2014 Posted 5 June 2014 Haha. 30m or **** off Haha. Honestly though, if he has a good season for you guys next season, he would be worth quite a lot of money (ok, clearly not 30 million, but 15-20 is a possibility, 10 being more realistic). Lallana will probably be sold for about 25ish this summer. I'm a big fan of Lallana's, but Mahrez has the capabilities to have as good a season as Lallana did this season, and Mahrez is younger. All conjecture though, we'll wait and see.
