Corky Posted 21 July 2014 Posted 21 July 2014 What an apt way to finish. Disgraceful hour of cricket.
Swarles Barkley Posted 21 July 2014 Posted 21 July 2014 If ever there was a wicket to sum up the absolute trash that is english cricket is right now, that was it
Narborough_fox Posted 21 July 2014 Posted 21 July 2014 Run out to end it just about sums the test up.
surrifox Posted 21 July 2014 Posted 21 July 2014 I missed that. You gotta be kidding, Bell is our most talented batsman, to suggest he goes while Ali stays is ludicrous. I missed that too - of course it would be ludicrous if Ali stayed he has to go . You and I will never agree on Bell , Matt. But there you go.
Corky Posted 21 July 2014 Posted 21 July 2014 Ten Tests without a win, 7 defeats in that time. The rankings might not show it but we are at a very low point. I like Cook a lot but he's not justifying his place in the side as either captain or batsman. Hope he can go from the captaincy with the dignity he deserves.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 21 July 2014 Posted 21 July 2014 Part of the problem is that England think they are better than they actually are! Going to need a lot of hard work to improve and start winning tests again.
Captain... Posted 21 July 2014 Posted 21 July 2014 Kerrigan is a massive risk, but fvck it we need something, Plunkett, Stokes and Ali are not doing enough with the ball and too much of the work load is on Jimmy and Broad and they are suffering because of it, in this test Broad and Anderson bowled the same as those 3 combined. Does the Rose Bowl spin much? If we pick a spinner they need top bowl long spells so we can rest our seamers and allow them to bowl short sharp bursts, the worry is if Kerrigan gets the yips again then we are screwed, we either pick him and Ali, or we pick a safe option like Tredwell who can bat a bit too, but then does Ali deserve his place on batting alone? Too many questions at the moment.
Guest MattP Posted 21 July 2014 Posted 21 July 2014 I missed that too - of course it would be ludicrous if Ali stayed he has to go . You and I will never agree on Bell , Matt. But there you go. He's the most talented English batsman we have seen for a while, he's the last player in the current 11 you should think about dropping.
surrifox Posted 21 July 2014 Posted 21 July 2014 I would go for Cook Robson Ballance Bell Root Morgan Buttler Broad Plunkett Anderson/jordan depending on ban Kerrigan As a fan of Yorkshire I wouldn't want to see Lyth promoted as his performances in County Cricket are keeping them in the title chase but its hard to argue against his credentials ahead of Robson- otherwise this side has a decent look to it although I suspect that Kerrigan is something of an imposter
Guest MattP Posted 21 July 2014 Posted 21 July 2014 Yeah the Rose Bowl usually turns. A front line spinner is a must for that game.

I hear that - you can add that he's an ever present in a team of serial failures - the most talented English batsman I have seen in a while by a street is Alistair cook to whom that also applies of course
Corky Posted 21 July 2014 Posted 21 July 2014 Yeah the Rose Bowl usually turns. A front line spinner is a must for that game. Do you try someone like Danny Briggs, who has been in the set-up before and knows the ground and pitch inside out? It's a huge risk I know.
leicsmac Posted 21 July 2014 Posted 21 July 2014 Yeah the Rose Bowl usually turns. A front line spinner is a must for that game. I think over the next year or so we're going to realise just how much we miss Swann.

Lionator Posted 21 July 2014 Posted 21 July 2014 Cook Robson Ballance Bell Taylor Morgan Bairstow Broad Jordan Anderson Kerrigan
Bobby Hundreds Posted 21 July 2014 Posted 21 July 2014 I'd get Morgan in to be VC but who he replaces is a big question. Robson hasn't been convincing but wouldn't want Root opening, Ali has to stay in the team to bowl, Ballance has hit 2 tons and although out of form, I'd consider Bell undroppable. Buttler in for Prior, Jordan in for Stokes and maybe Onions in to give one of our main bowlers a rest.
Narborough_fox Posted 21 July 2014 Posted 21 July 2014 Someone said, I think it might have been Michael Vaughan, that they'd give Gareth Batty a chance rather than Kerrigan at the minute as India are one of the best players of spin and another poor performance from Kerrigan could well hurt his future whilst Batty has also experienced test cricket. What do people think of that?

Morgan and a front line spinner for Ali and Stokes, at the moment they are not doing enough with the ball or the bat to deserve their places. Although there was talk of Plunkett struggling with injury so Stokes may keep his place, but I would prefer Jordan and Bresnan at the moment over Stokes and Plunkett.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 21 July 2014 Posted 21 July 2014 Personally think Kerrigan will get taken apart. I'd much prefer Batty or Briggs in the side.
