purpleronnie Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Anyone watching Question Time, Barton makes a sexist a comment! but my point is they've made sure they've picked an mainly anti ukip audience. Yes it was a train wreck but very amusing, the ukip representitive was Louise Bours (what an apt name), and she seemed intent to just fire insults at people which seems UKIP policy, the one directed at Warren barton was so corny it received groans from the audience.
Guest MattP Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Anyone watching Question Time, Barton makes a sexist a comment! but my point is they've made sure they've picked an mainly anti ukip audience. I actually don't think the BBC can stoop any lower or scrape the barrel any further. What a freak show. First Question Time for years I haven't managed to watch through, had to turn over after ten mins. The UKIP woman was dreadful, uneducated, foul, lower class, shouting, I missed the intros and just assumed she was Labour, couldn't believe it, what a contrast from from Diane James or Suzanne Jones, I know Farage wants to appeal to the working class but that really isn't the way to do it. Having one prize cock in Piers Morgan on was bad enough, having two with Joey Barton on taking the piss. Stick to Twitter pal, although I had to chuckle at the lefties on Twitter arguing over him, only a man of his political innocence could confuse the liberals' opinion so much by insulting UKIP with a sexist remark. I always feared the day even programmes like Question Time would be 'dumbed down' for a wider audience, it appears we have arrived at the time. Enjoy your little protest victory, by all means ignore the fact that with a mere 27% of a 35% turnout, it is not even the largest movement of dissent, that coming from the 30.3m who refused to vote for anyone. It's always tremendous to indulge in the floccinaucinihilipilification of the European Union, it's far more than a protest for many of us. If people think apathy is a sign of strength or the way to send a message I fear for the future of our society. The big test for UKIP will be when they have to branch out their manifesto. Huge moment for them this summer when they produce it, will be scrutinised more than any manifesto in modern history.

Did she say he was crap for Wimbledon and had stupid floppy hair?
MooseBreath Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Joey fvcking Barton on question time. What on earth is going on.
Buce Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 floccinaucinihilipilificationWhat a wonderful word.Thanks, Matt, you've made this logophile's day.

Huge moment for them this summer when they produce it, will be scrutinised more than any manifesto in modern history. The UKIP woman is now an MEP for the North West - Louise Bours (perhaps she gave her name to the adjective "boorish"?). Certainly not as "fragrant" as Diane James or the other one....maybe you could tempt Lady Archer into the UKIP fold? "Floccinaucinihilipilification"?! Knowing that Matt is a bit of a scamp (there's another word for the list of words that should be used more often), I thought he'd made that up but, no! Oxford English Dictionary: "The action or habit of estimating as worthless"...but I'm sure the rest of you all knew that....and doubtless Matt casually throws into conversation down the pub (saloon bar, of course). Completely agree with everything you say here, Matt, particularly re. Piers Moron (© Private Eye) & prize cock Barton. I agreed with something Moosebreath said yesterday. Life is getting a bit worrying, I might have to have a lie down. Talking of Private Eye and prize cocks, did you see their spoof of Max Clifford (just his face, mocked up as a newspaper front page under the heading "Massive cock in court")! Sometimes base humour hits the spot! He's someone who'd have lowered the tone of Question Time still further, but I understand that he's unavailable at present:
Bryn Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Floccinaucinihilipilification What a perfectly inappropriate and contrived use of language for the debate and setting.
Alf Bentley Posted 30 May 2014 Author Posted 30 May 2014 Floccinaucinihilipilification What a perfectly inappropriate and contrived use of language for the debate and setting. Are you "estimating Matt's action in using that word as worthless", Bryn? Are you floccinaucinihilipifying him? Or do you merely regard his usage as insignificant...in other words, are you floccipending his choice of terminology?
Alf Bentley Posted 30 May 2014 Author Posted 30 May 2014 What a wonderful word. Thanks, Matt, you've made this logophile's day. I mean, I enjoy a good crap as much as the next man, but I don't see the relevance here, Buce...
Buce Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 I mean, I enjoy a good crap as much as the next man, but I don't see the relevance here, Buce... . A man has to have a hobby..
Buce Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Floccinaucinihilipilification What a perfectly inappropriate and contrived use of language for the debate and setting. That's a bit churlish. Interestingly, if you look at the etymology, you'll see the word itself is contrived, a made-up word.
johnny the fox Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 http://www.itv.com/news/tyne-tees/update/2014-05-30/mp-apologises-for-bigot-remark/? Labour still don't get it.. that's why people have not gone back to them..
Buce Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Has anyone noticed that quotes no longer contain the name of the poster?
lavrentis Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Has anyone noticed that quotes no longer contain the name of the poster? Works for me Buce
Guest MattP Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 What a wonderful word. Thanks, Matt, you've made this logophile's day. He's someone who'd have lowered the tone of Question Time still further, but I understand that he's unavailable at present: I think the Hamilton's only came in as the Archers were unavailable UKIP don't take associates of criminals! Scamp, I like it, I actually picked up the word from a Conservative MP whilst watching a speech on Europe, I've been waiting for an opportune time to use it. I'll pick up a copy of that! Floccinaucinihilipilification What a perfectly inappropriate and contrived use of language for the debate and setting. You are going to need a but more of a sense of humour if you want to bea regular in here Bryn! We all indulge in the floccinaucinihilipilification of each other on a regular basis! Has anyone noticed that quotes no longer contain the name of the poster? Happens to me every now and again, it is very odd.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Whatever happened to "Freedom of Speech"? Was it dismantled piece by piece, by the left wing crackpots, over the years? Yes,, almost totally eroded. I think people are now getting sick of this political correctness, and the namby pamby dolts who pander to the ethnics in a "they can do no wrong" manner. Stuff those tossers, and their cronies.
The Doctor Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Anyone watching Question Time, Barton makes a sexist a comment! but my point is they've made sure they've picked an mainly anti ukip audience. Sexist? Hardly. It's the most obvious of analogies, that's it. Whatever happened to "Freedom of Speech"? Was it dismantled piece by piece, by the left wing crackpots, over the years? Stuff those tossers, and their cronies. Eh? Freedom of speech only says you can say something - which is still very much intact. It says nothing about people having to respect that opinion. If someone says something a bit backwards (e.g. bongo-bongo land) then they get called out as being a troglodyte. Doesn't mean the twazzock doesn't have freedom of speech, it means he's exercised his freedom of speech, people have heard what he's said and thought of him as a right salad.
Strokes Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 That's a bit churlish. Interestingly, if you look at the etymology, you'll see the word itself is contrived, a made-up word. Isn't every word, a made up word?
lavrentis Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Just got an email from UKIP asking to go to Newark as Farage is there. I am from near there so might go and support the cause
The God Emperor Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Isn't every word, a made up word? whoah that's deep man
Jimothy Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Exact same analogy as Barton spoken in a west country accent out the mouth to Ian Holloway had people laughing. Wasn't on QT mind, but still, people just like to beat Barton down with something. It wasn't the worst analogy, he made his point. The fact that analogy is getting more attention than the point he was making round it shows he's probably got a point about ukip and voter turn out.
Dr The Singh Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Just got an email from UKIP asking to go to Newark as Farage is there. I am from near there so might go and support the cause I used to work in Newark, the traveller community were really unfriendly of my presence
Buce Posted 30 May 2014 Posted 30 May 2014 Isn't every word, a made up word? I suppose they are, yeah. The etymology is interesting, though: http://www.worldwidewords.org/weirdwords/ww-flo2.htm
