I think you're on a wind up :dunno: but I'll state the obvious; it's an American power lead and you need a British one.

Not on a wind up. I haven't got a clue what plugs they use in America. I have re-packed it and am taking it back. I read on some site that you can use it and it just won't be earthed! I didn't fancy trying it so put it back in the box. Why the frick would they have this at my local Tesco?

Gutted cos I liked the look of the Technika speakers better but I bought the Logitech ones cos they were dearer and thought they would sound better. Then I get them home and can't even use em.

I have a toothbrush charger plug adaptor that has a 2 pin hole in the top, but it says 'shaver only' on it. Would I be able to use that do you think?

This happened to me a few days ago! I think there is a little button at the top right of your screen that say something when you hover over it. Can't remember exactly. I just tried to do it again to see how I sorted it and it's not doing it.

EDIT : Take cursor to top right of screen and next to the 'x' that appears there will be a button that says 'restore' when you hover over it. That's how you sort this out

You pressed # and F11 at the same time to cause that problem, just been pressing everything to find out !

Nah just F11. Press F11 again to change it.

I asked the guy at my local pc shop about earthing meself for the same thing and he said don't worry about that. I think if you want to though you just touch something metal before you do it. A radiator or summat

lol I know this is old but I thought I would point out to people not to follow this advice unless you want an early grave. The last thing you want to do is touch something metal.

I meant a European adapter

I think you were right the first time. Most of Europe use two pin plugs but a different style to the American version.

Thanks  I'm not taking it back now, gonna buy one of these on ebay in a minute, there's one for £1.79

Just take it back to where you bought it and demand a british lead. I'm sure it's illegal to sell goods without the correct adapter unless you buy it as in import or a shaver. :dunno:

1. lol a piece of great advice from me! You can tell I not been into pc's for long, was just starting out then

2. How do I know which adaptor I should get then? I don't know if my power plug is US or European. Does the length of the pins tell you which region it is? This one has quite long pins.

3. If I take it back to Tesco though and they gave me another boxed set of speakers it would probably have the same kind of frickin power plug in it cos I bet they all the same batch. This is gonna take ages to get me new one I bet :( Don't know if it be quicker to buy a 2 pin adaptor off ebay or just take it back.

Right I have a photo, which cannot be saved over the internet so I've done the old print page into a word doc. How do I now get that as a pukka image in my pictures folder Ready to re-upload to the net?

Could copy and paste into paint, save as jpeg file and then use tinypic/imagehack to upload?

If it's because you can't right click, just view the source code and find the direct link to the image :P

These are much better as they hold the plug in place and stop them coming loose

mw44x.jpg

Maplins have them

Alternatively you could just cut off the plug and wire the lead on to a British plug.

I don't think El Empty should be wiring his own plugs :giggle:

A little help if anyone can please.

I am unable to run newly downloaded browsers. I have dloaded IE8, Opera and Chrome, they have installed apparently correctly and are on the desktop and in the program lists, however, when i click to open them.... nothing happens.

I run Mcafee antivirus, Spybot and Malwarebytes, have scanned with all of these and nothing is located. Im pretty confident that the system is mostly clean, although i am having some issues when connecting external hard drive etc to the usb

btw...its xp home

Thanks in anticipation.

edit.

Oh a second question, i am the proud owner of a wii, i want to watch TV/Movies free online with it... i can see youtube, but no luck anywhere else (justin TV etc)... does anyone has any suggestions as to good sites.. or what i need?

Tried to start my computer and it runs a startup repair. Once it's finished i check the diagnostic report and it says every repair has been completed successfully but i can't continue to log in and do whatever i need to do because it just restarts the startup repair over and over. what do I do to fix this?

Go into your BIOS's Boot screen this might be f2 or delete but will be on the screen when you first turn it on.

Set Boot preference to CD/DVD drive first

Restart with the Recovery disc inside

Follow the instructions. Tread carefully do not format or partition your drive otherwise you will loose everything. This link should help

Reset your boot screen to hard drive after you have finished.

If that doesn't work, you may have a hard drive failing.

That's odd that none will work. Do you have the latest service packs installed? That might be an issue if you haven't. The other common denominator is the desktop. If you have all the upgrades, try opening the application from it's program file. If that works, the shortcuts have been corrupted on your desktop

XP - Second Repair

Vista - Repair

Both of these need the operating system disc.

Hi Samlcfc,

On the CD drive/DVD itself you should see a little hole, normally if you shove a paperclip in, it'll open up.
