I've just had a letter off Talktalk telling me I've exceeded my 40GB download limit

Bloody internet pirates.

Anyone wanna help me with any solution to my recent problems..

Recently my hard drive seems to be going mental when my PC starts up, it's constantly loading for probably 10/20 mins like some program/s is/are running? I have done abit of research into it but can't quite point out the problem

I reguarly clean up my PC with programs i have (TuneUp Utilities, WinUtilities, CCleaner) but nothing seems to work! I Have two programs that start up when my PC does (Kaspersky and Sigmatal Systray App)

So anywho if anyone can help me it would be appreciated

bit of info on dongles. Never bought one

before. Best and cheapest places to get one,

To be streaming video your allowance will run out very, very fast on a dongle.

I wanted to connect my desktop pc to my home network. Didn't go for a dongle though, I brought a PCI card from eBay (think it was about £7)... Just installed it, drivers were downloaded and I was connected. Connection can vary, but it is a pretty decent piece of hardware to have.

If you have set Windows to automatically update might cause this. You can set this to "Download but let me choose when to install them" or "Remind me but don't automatically download or install them".

I had that problem and doing that fixed it.

The other thing you might check using CCleaner is the startup menu. I'd limit the processes to as few as possible without disabling critical items

Mine's been fine.

It's a problem with my mast or something the have only just sent an engineer out to investigate the issue, 5 days since i have had any signal.

Not a happy camper.

Right basically my desktop has gone completely black. No icons, no start menu all i can see is the pointer. I have to start programs via the task manager on Ctrl + Alt + Del.

It just randomly happened one night, I hadn't downloaded anything i hadn't done anything out of the ordinary.

It lets me get to the log in screen fine then just goes blank when i log on.

I'm on a Toshiba satellite running Vista.

Ive tried virus/malware scans etc and can't find anything.

Any ideas?

May be too easy/ obvious, but have you had it connected to another monitor and extended your desktop to that monitor recently?

It could still be using your laptop screen as the extended monitor and not the primary? (This sometimes doesn't automatically correct itself)

Right clicking and checking display properties will tell you.

Hope it is that simple! lol

Nope not had it connected to anything :(

Doesn't let me right click either. Only thing i can do is bring up the task manager

AVG has updated itself tonight and ever since when I go onto a new tab instead of getting my most viewed thumb nails I'm getting AVG safesearch page. I can't work out how to get rid of it.

Basically I spilt a bit of juice over my laptop, dried it up quickly but it won't power on - is it worth taking to a computer repair shop or is it beyond saving?

Take battery out and leave powered off. Should be save-able might have to strip laptop down to component level and clean the liquid off the board. Timing is important quicker the better.

Has it changed your homepage? Not sure what browser you're using, but assuming it's Chrome, open Settings and then check what's set in the "On start up" section.

Won't the sugar/acid content start corroding the crap out of it? Water can be dealt with faitly easily by doing the battery trick and leaving the device somewhere warm and dry. Juice on the other hand... hmmm... could go either way :)

The keyboard will be dead, but that's actually what it's designed for. It's designed so that the keyboard will take the damage (cheap to replace) than the entire motherboard, which would kill your machine.

The lesser of two evils, so to speak.

regarding adobe reader, is it ok for me to just uninstall this program as it always shuts down due to a problem.

Yes you can uninstall that without causing any problems. I'm sure it's only used if you want to read pdf's and that.

thanks, I actually uninstalled it earlier but I was worried it might cause a problem because it "came with" the laptop. No probs yet though and i installed a pdf reader that works
