England under-performed.

England > USA

It all boils down to fans' expectations and a certain amount of "delusion of grandeur", as a wise Mr. P once said.

It's not a flaw when the better team wins matches at an international tournament, it's a given.

England have certainly above-average players, but they have failed on the international stage for a while now, which is shambolic.

Football in the US is on a steady rise, whereas England's importance on the world map is actually regressing. And the issues are all home-made.

England has found its level.

Keeping the current trend in mind (without pondering "the glorious past"):

US=England, with a slight advantage for the US boys.
