JJS84 Posted 12 August 2014 Posted 12 August 2014 Just because he isn't banging in goals now doesn't mean he's not going to live up to his potential? Look at Rickie Lambert.. 4/5 years ago he was in league 1. now he had a call up to the England squad and now playing for Liverpool. Some footballers just need a little more time to live up to their hype. don't write him off just yet. point missed, I'm not saying he wont, I'm saying he hasn't yet. next season we need goals to stay up, coaching wickham in to a position where he will be great in 3 years isn't good enough for us next year. we need someone who can hit the ground running, that's why i think deeney with his scoring stats over the last two seasons will be a better option if we are going to blow a big wad on a striker to try and keep us up.
surrifox Posted 15 August 2014 Posted 15 August 2014 west ham have ended their interest apparently now they have Sakho so there are no reports of anyone actively bidding for him. Sunderland need to sell as he will be out of contract and they are unlikely to get their 8 mill asking price- might be worth looking at again

Wickham £8M, Deeney £10M+, or Slimani £6M. Only club we know might be interested in any of them now is Hull interested in Deeney. We might still have options and prices may just stop rising.

Do you think we can do some kind of collective deal with all the teams involved? Buy 2 get the 3rd for free? Bit like a mix and match at the supermarket
Mr LIvingstone Posted 15 August 2014 Posted 15 August 2014 Would rather have both and get rid of GTF!!!
Guest Posted 15 August 2014 Posted 15 August 2014 I mentioned this yesterday, i would take Deeney, he scoring rate over the last couple of season, while in the champo, is vastly better. Absolutely agree.Wickham had half a dozen games at the end of last season where he finally wasn't waste of space and suddenly everyone talks about him like a huge star. Deeney has everything a top striker needs and I feel certain has it in him to prove it at prem level.
Nalis Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 Sunderland want £8 million. Now here's the question, would you rather Deeney for £10 million or Wickham for £2 million less whose 4-5 years younger? This is the thing. For me Wickham is a no brainer compared to Deeney for value. I dont think Wickham would sign for us but if he did it would be brilliant, so much potential. Deeney is good but Deeney fans, am I missing something to think he's not worth £10m let alone more??
matty98 Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 wickham would be a bad buy in my opinion, he's too lazy and won't fit into our high energy team
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 17 August 2014 Posted 17 August 2014 12 pages about a player we're not getting... Jeez!!
Carlos88LCFC Posted 18 August 2014 Posted 18 August 2014 DAILY MIRROR: Crystal Palace are ready to offer Glenn Murray plus cash for Sunderland striker Connor Wickham.
Babylon Posted 18 August 2014 Posted 18 August 2014 DAILY MIRROR: Crystal Palace are ready to offer Glenn Murray plus cash for Sunderland striker Connor Wickham. Yeah... cus Sunderland would really want Glen Murray
Carlos88LCFC Posted 18 August 2014 Posted 18 August 2014 Yeah... cus Sunderland would really want Glen Murray Scored 31 in 45 when they where in the Championship which is not a bad return... Didn't really get a look in last season... Would be half decent back up
surrifox Posted 18 August 2014 Posted 18 August 2014 rumoured to one of the major issues between parish and Pulis - Parish wanted Wickham and Zaha and Pulis said no. Lets hope Parish is making the key decisions then -should tie up one relegation spot
teblin Posted 18 August 2014 Posted 18 August 2014 Yeah... cus Sunderland would really want Glen MurrayI thought that at 1st. But he did play under Gus at Brighton.

Yes me again your love in for Deeney is frankly embarrasing? You'd rather have Deeney over Wickham? Answer me this then how many goals has Deeney scored at premiership level? Ans square root of naff all. Wickham has scored goals in the premiership including a belter at the Etihad last season. Wickham is younger too. Either one one Wickham or Slimani not Deeney at any level.

You talk like Wickham is proven in the prem, if it wasn't for a couple of goals at the back end of last season Sunderland would probably have been bombing him out to another average Championship team. I can completely understand someone saying they would have Deeney over him. Firstly we already have two big men in the squad so we don't need another and secondly he has outperformed Wickham when in the champ. No doubt he's got some talent, if we didn't already have Wood and Ulloa I'd be happy with Wickham, but I really don't see how he fits in with what we already have.

Deeney offers us something different and is almost certainly a better player than Nugent Scored 31 in 45 when they where in the Championship which is not a bad return... Didn't really get a look in last season... Would be half decent back up He was injured most of last season
