artursteppe Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 I'm sure Nigel hinted that there are other ways of procuring his targets other than just doing a wage deal, as such. Not sure what they might be, but could include a signing on fee, bonuses and or length of contract with promises based upon performance and club targets. I'm guessing that the door was closed on Frazer Campbell because he and his agent probably demanded a guarantee of £40K per week. Nige ain't gonna do that. He wants quality players who will be good for the team, and want to play for us long term and reap their rewards when those rewards are right for everyone.
JJS84 Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 it'll be interesting to see how this plays out. while the player technically has 12 months remaining on his contract, if i understand the rules correctly, come January he will be free to talk to other clubs, therefore i suppose Sunderland only really have 6 months control over a transfer fee or being the only club he is in negotiations with. this may be a help to any club trying to sign him this summer, as Sunderland have said they are not prepared to have him do the same as colback and walk out the door for nothing when his contract expires. i understand there would be some compensation, but i assume this would not be anywhere near what the club would be asking for right now. i think if city do really want him and they are prepared to push the issue a little they could pick up a real talent. however he just have rejected the first contract offer in an attempt to get a better second one.
Master Fox Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 I'll believe it when I see / hear it. Nigel is being a total sloth in this transfer window. I think this has to be the worst / most boring transfer window in our history. If we don't sign some players soon we're fvcked

Ric Flair Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 And what happened the season after.... Finished 1 place below Cardiff who were relegated
Babylon Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Finished 1 place below Cardiff who were relegated Yeah ok!! Point being an exciting transfer window does not always equal an exciting seasons.
Ric Flair Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Yeah ok!! Point being an exciting transfer window does not always equal an exciting seasons. I agree with you pal, we're not a club whose historically done well with massive changes either. Look at the debacle under Sven. I know we're close to being able to make a good fist of it at the highest level and there's no need for us to make too many changes too quickly but it's clear where some quality wouldn't go amiss and I don't think we'll be as lucky this season in being able to keep the same XI for most games. Bit of a storm in a tea cup at the minute anyway, it's clear Nigel is wanting to strengthen as he's said so himself. Just standard pre-season frustration for most.
Hack Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 I wouldn't mind him here but he blows hot and cold in my opinion. Seriously man what is wrong with you. What player do you know that doesn't? If you can think of any how much are they worth?
Jon the Hat Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Finished 1 place below Cardiff who were relegated Haha nicely done.
Finnaldo Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Seriously man what is wrong with you. What player do you know that doesn't? If you can think of any how much are they worth? Well actually I've been following this player in the Andorran League for a few months now....

Richard Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Would Sunderland not be due compensation if he leaves next summer because they've offered Wickham a new deal and he's turned it down and he's under 24?
Ric Flair Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Would Sunderland not be due compensation if he leaves next summer because they've offered Wickham a new deal and he's turned it down and he's under 24? Correct. As longas the contract they offer him is the same or more than his current wage then they will bue due compensation. They will only get a fee based on how much it's cost Sunderland to train him whilst he's been there and for his England Under 21 achievements. I think that's how it works. Put it this way, the compensation would be way, way less than what we'd pay for him now.
foxfanazer Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Think he'd be just the sort of player we need. Still got a lot to prove but I think he'd be a great fit
The Blur Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Turning down a new contract smacks of a bad attitude to me. He barely has a full season at Sunderland (tbf he has a injury hit season and other season he was out of favour) yet he want to move to a bigger club already? Not sure if Pearson will be keen with that.

The Blur Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Or he just wants to play? Would have thought that after his finish to the last season, he will get his chance this season unless Poyet indicated that he will not get his chance.
Ric Flair Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 Would have thought that after his finish to the last season, he will get his chance this season unless Poyet indicated that he will not get his chance. It's the 3 years that had preceded that though, he's gone on record as stating he's not been treated well there. If we were to sign him it's not as if it could be said he was going for the money or that we are a big club. If he joins us i'd be chuffed as it shows he's got a point to prove which is what Nigel is all about.

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 If we keep to a ceiling of 30,000k per month then we are stuffed, because no good Premiership quality player will come for that, when they can do better elsewhere. This worries me, as much as it does many others.

sylofox Posted 15 July 2014 Posted 15 July 2014 It was suggested to be 30,000 per week Even at that We are in the bottom 2 or 3 I would think in the pay league.
