Sky Sources: West Ham make bid for Sunderland striker Connor Wickham #SSN

Would still rather have deeney, as they will both cost around the same, but troy's scoring record is better. regardless of conner getting a few in the prem towards the end of last season, deeney has nearly 50 goals in the last two seasons.

Rumours say West Ham's bid was only £4M and was turned down. Sunderland say if Wickham does not sign a new contract soon he will be sold. Some rumours even suggest that Wickham hasn't even been offered a new contract yet. I think Wickham will not be at Sunderland next season and West Ham only want him as cover for that long haired chap who is injured, hence only £4M offered.

If Nige wants him, he'll get him.

Wickham has big sell on potential though and admittedly not the biggest factor in deciding on buying a player but it's worth bearing in mind.

If Pearson is looking to replace Wood with someone very similar then Wickham would be his target, if he is looking for something else he would go for Deeney assuming Wickham and Deeney are in his sights that is. Knowing Nigel we will probably end up with some gem from abroad that no one has heard of.

im pretty sure we are after another striker.... i'd just be surprised if we go for someone qas similar as Ulloa... you'd surely not think we could start both? and Wickham will probably want  1st team footy...

This. Far more value in a few years time than Ulloa will, though how much did Sunderland pay for him? I bet they'll be making a loss

Not sure he will move anywhere.

Think he is looking at a loan or few games for the cats then the big payday next summer when he is free.

Sunderland want £8 million. Now here's the question, would you rather Deeney for £10 million or Wickham for £2 million less whose 4-5 years younger?

Wickham has the potential to be a very good front man but he is your target man.

Deeney, in my view, albeit having a trouble past is a taller version of Vardy...quick.

The thing will be that all four of our strikers, plus GTF when used, will be required at some point during the season and our four potential front men scored more than all but (was it four I read?) clubs last season in the Championship. Albeit at a lower level, that's impressive.

The wages for Wickham I suspect will be nearly double what we'd pay Deeney.

I mentioned this yesterday, i would take Deeney, he scoring rate over the last couple of season, while in the champo, is vastly better.

... Jesus.

Jesus why?

3 years in th prem for wickham and he has achieved what? Lots of loan moves, that's about it.

If he'd have been a success this wouldn't even be a conversation.

The truth is he hasn't lived up to his billing.

He's a young player only really now coming through? He's exactly the sort of player Pearson has turned good in Drinkwater and James.

Neither drinky or James had been in a premier league first team for three years and hadn't already moved for £8 million.

He had the opportunity and he's dropped back down the the champo on a few occasions and hasn't pulled up any trees.

This season we need instant return, and I think we are more likely to get that from deeney than we are from wickham.

5 goals in 9 starts for Sunderland at the back end of last season, plus 8 in 11 matches for Sheff Wed

In total he made 27 starts last season for Sunderland/Sheff Wed/Leeds and scored 15 goals, maybe he has reached that age where he will live up to the billing.

I don't know where you get lots of loan moves from, he has had three, twice to Sheff Wed and once to Leeds - totally 20 starts

For me, he is a young kid that hasn't been given a chance at Sunderland in all the time he has been there. Tell me how many 18/19/20 year old strikers play regular for premier league teams?

Just because he isn't banging in goals now doesn't mean he's not going to live up to his potential?

Look at Rickie Lambert.. 4/5 years ago he was in league 1. now he had a call up to the England squad and now playing for Liverpool.

Some footballers just need a little more time to live up to their hype. don't write him off just yet.

Are stats like that worth 8.1 million pounds?

also your question ref others that play regularly in the prem between 18-20, possibly not many at this current time, but those that have played regularly between those ages have done significantly better.
