2014/5 Away kits official

White's our secondary colour, so you can't seriously compare it to a colour like red, which we have next to no association with, but is a very popular choice with a lot of clubs. And we did "do a Leeds" one season, didn't we?

Nearly all clubs have a blue, red or white home kit, so it's very easy to pick a colour that people won't associate with another club.

Maybe it's not rational, but I don't like to see us in red, as it sets a precedent. If it sells well, people get ideas. One season, we'll be wearing red at home, and the owners (whoever they might be at the time)will say, "What are you complaining about? You love a red kit! Look at these sales charts."

That's ridiculous. If that happens I'll be on the picket line with you, but by your logic it could happen with any colour?

It hardly "sets a precedent". We wore red in Lineker's day for fvck's sake.

I don't even know when we'd wear the red kit, no prem team would clash with gold I don't think.

They will probably only use them on big TV games just to give them a run out. no actual need to use it. Im going to get the red, i just with it (and the gold for that matter) was the same template as the home kit, they would be amazing

The black shirts with the blue sash always sell like hotcakes. There is more of an argument to switch to those than red, but we've survived such efforts thus far.

It doesn't set a precedent in the strictest sense, no, but you've got to admit, it's a fvcking long time since we wore red.

I admitted it's not the most rational thought. I'm just saying I don't really like seeing us in red, especially as we've just seen a similar sized club go from blue to red. If it was proposed for us, we would have been able to argue that red's got nothing to do with us. Now we can't say that. That's all. I'm not that bothered.

How about a gold with silver sash like Warf in the star trek picture.

Yea in my opinion they missed a trick not using an example of us playing in a previous red kit to sell this one? Or even doing a carbon copy of an old red kit.

They could have popped Lineker on the marketing materials in the old red kit. Might appease a few people who are against it.

Personally, I love it. You don't have to look very far to see red is just as much part of our history as black/blue sash or yellow/gold is.

Blue has always been my favourite colour. I can think of no reason to attach myself to it other than the fact that it was City’s home kit; my heroes as a lad wore it.

Again, for surely no other reason than football, red for me became the polar opposite, the enemy of blue. When I was growing up, all the teams that I saw beat us seemed to wear red of some kind. United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Sunderland, Southampton, even Forest. I hated it.

My feelings towards colours has probably tempered a little since I was a kid but I still don’t like the thought of us playing in red. It’s got nothing to do with ‘doing a Cardiff’ (if you’re paranoid in this way, you’re better off being concerned about the gold monstrosity we’ll be turning out in this year). Nor has it got anything directly to do with Forest playing in red, and quite frankly I find the insinuations that if you don’t like red you must be a hypocrite (‘Derby wear white etc etc’. Well spotted you salad.) quite insulting.

For me it’s simply that in my head, red is the opposite of blue in football terms and we shouldn’t be wearing it. Whether it’s a ‘nod to history and tradition’ or not, I like a white away kit. Blue shirts/White shorts at home, White shirts/Blue shorts away. 3rd kits can die.

That being said, it’s hardly the biggest issue. As long as we still rock up in blue at home I’ll turn up and give supporting the lads full gas for 90 minutes.

No we wouldn't... because Red does have something to do with us. It's got as much to do with us than green and yellow pin stripes.

But we've played in red before.

Just because we hadn't done so in years doesn't mean we shouldn't have ever gone back to it.

Don't like the red, feels as though we've "done a Barnsley".

The red does actually look good, though our best away shirts have been the black with blue sash.

The red actually looks really nice! The design seems a lot nicer than the home kit for some reason. I like gold/yellow kits but not a fan of that at all. It looks really cheap and tacky.

Posted

Sounds pedantic but if there's an issue to be had with the red kit, it's the black trim. When City did have Red as the away kit, the trim was always white (I used to have a cracking 70s retro).

I reckon the red will be played in agaisnt QPR, Chelsea, Everton, Man City, West Brom.

All in away matches before people get their knickers in a twist.

I hope that's some brass eye satirical sarcasm saying that the owners will get ideas and give us a red home kit down the line.

one slightly tapped owner changing Cardiffs colour has not set off a trend.

I will be buying both as I'm a twat with money and I won't be put off wearing any of the shirts at home games.

This sums it up for me haha, I could never be red at table football as a kid etc. Growing up in Cornwall every kid supported either Man Utd, Arsenal or Liverpool. As long as Blue is our home kit I'm not too bothered what the away kit is these days, it'll just be a strange experience to see as I was a bit too young to remember the last time we wore red.
