NewquayFox Posted 14 September 2014 Posted 14 September 2014 We are fortunate to have two solid keepers, but i think Kasper will get the shirt on Saturday and healthy competition from Ben will keep him on his toes......
MC Prussian Posted 14 September 2014 Posted 14 September 2014 I only watched the highlights on sky sports yesterday so I do not know how accurate my opinion is but from what I saw hamer fully deserves to keep his place in the team. He made a few good saves especially the double save towards the end which earned us the 3 points and throughout the game he seemed to claim the ball fairly well from crosses/corners. So for me kasper starts on the bench next week just like Drinkwater has had to due to Hammond and king playing well! So until hamer makes a mistake he should keep his place in my opinion. Schmeichel is our No.1 goalkeeper and even though Hamer had a great game against Stoke, Kasper is likely to feature again between the sticks against Manchester United. That's just the way it is. I think it's got to do with automatism to a certain extent - as a defender, it's just easier when you know you've got a goalkeeper behind you whom you know inside out (and vice versa). I can't think of a top flight team in any football league that regularly rotates in that position from one league match to the other, anyway.
The Quick Brown Fox Posted 14 September 2014 Posted 14 September 2014 We are fortunate to have two solid keepers, but i think Kasper will get the shirt on Saturday and healthy competition from Ben will keep him on his toes...... But who gets the shirt Sunday?
Jmw44 Posted 14 September 2014 Posted 14 September 2014 But who gets the shirt Sunday? They will both be issued there own shirt with name and squad number on the back.
LCCFox96 Posted 14 September 2014 Posted 14 September 2014 It's just nice to have two solid keepers, which means we don't have to panic or dive into the loan market when one gets injured as we have done in the past. Pleased for Ben Hamer after a few preseason wobbles as well. That double save at the end of the game was well worth the mention it got on MOTD. Spoke a lot of sense in his interview too.
Clever Fox Posted 14 September 2014 Posted 14 September 2014 I had my doubts about him before yesterday. I'm never going to doubt any of Nigels signings again. However I would like to see the Beard go. It just looks unprofessional. He came and took some crosses with confidence and ease. This is the one area which Kasper struggles with. Still expect Kasper to be back next Week if fit.
RonnieTodger Posted 14 September 2014 Posted 14 September 2014 Thought he improved throughout the game and made 2 vital saves towards the end, but I think we need to have Kasper back in. We have to be ruthless.
Bamba's Babes Posted 14 September 2014 Posted 14 September 2014 Worst example of distribution from a goalkeeper I have ever seen.
cafc-fan Posted 14 September 2014 Posted 14 September 2014 Bens best asset is his distribution, I'm sure it was just his nerves yesterday, it's usually outstanding.
Harry - LCFC Posted 14 September 2014 Posted 14 September 2014 Played the ball about fairly well against Shrewsbury and I've often thought he was decent with his feet when I watched him before. Suppose yesterday was just an off-day on that front.
Monsell1976 Posted 14 September 2014 Posted 14 September 2014 Bens best asset is his distribution, I'm sure it was just his nerves yesterday, it's usually outstanding. the shit must have been running down his leg, making him kick it out nearly every time , only joking he did well yesterday, barring he distribution, and we can put that down to nerves, but if it was nerves, he needs to get over them quick in this league.
cafc-fan Posted 14 September 2014 Posted 14 September 2014 No doubt at all that the kicking was down to nerves. I can't think of many goalkeepers with better distribution that him. I would say his main weakness is dealing with long range shots. He also tends to make some rash decisions if he makes a mistake during a game in order to try and make up for the previous error. Very good at coming out and claiming crosses, good handling and pretty good with one one ones. He made a blinding save last year against Sheffield Wednesday in the cup.
suffolk fox Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Is a double for Jesus I am sure he was in the film Jesus of Nazareth maybe he had divine intervention on Saturday, great saves near the end and can take crosses under pressure from moaning Crouch and cheating Shawcross.
Manwell Pablo Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Hamer had a decent enough game and filled in well, which is exactly what he's payed to do. He's still not as good as Kasper who should be back in the side as soon as he's fit. As I've already said today, this isn't a Sunday League team.
SE7 Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Havent been on here for ages but seeing Hamer on MOTD i thought id log on to see fans comments. His distribution is actually pretty good, especially from his hands (drop kick/throwing). Off the floor its not great. He's a confident lad as any Charlton fan or Twitter follower will testify, however i would still say he was probably cacking it making his Prem debut. Anyways, good luck this season and hopefully, the way its going for us, we'll see you next season!
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 Hamer saved our bacon last week, and this will have done wonders for his confidence, but I guess Kasper will be back, if fit. I hope Hamer will be challenging him before long, as Kasper is far from perfect.
Corky Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 What's this all about? Reasonable, thoughtful Charlton fans?
Bayfox Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 anyone hear is interview on talksport drive?
Chug Laguna Posted 15 September 2014 Posted 15 September 2014 As a keeper (not fat, just tall and un-talented at everything) my whole life I feel that the only thing I can possibly reasonably judge is keeper performances. I personally thought he was shocking for the majority of the match, bad distribution, and there was a point where I turned to my kids and said "I'm not sure this guy even knows that he's playing keeper right now" (they ignored me and continued to play Lego). But there was a stretch in the second half where he went all indoor keeper beast mode reaction savey stuff and it was nice. Still, would rather see Kasper back, who I likewise don't rate incredibly highly (he seems to just wander aimlessly like an exiled Viking who shamed the family around the 18 yard box) but seems to have better organization and football mentality. Fine beard though. Crunchy and substantial.
