Nick Posted 5 October 2014 Posted 5 October 2014 L44RY must be getting up from his chair wondering who could be at the door at this late hour.........
MPH Posted 5 October 2014 Posted 5 October 2014 Sounds to me like she was stupid enough to think she could never be caught...
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 5 October 2014 Posted 5 October 2014 Just highlights why trolls on the internet should be ignored, they are all people who are deeply unhappy and often unstable.
benpicko Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Sounds to me like she was stupid enough to think she could never be caught... Caught posting mean stuff on twitter? Christ. I've seen much worse stuff said about the McCanns elsewhere, and I don't expect any of those people had holed themselves up either in anticipation of either the police or the media turning up at their door and harassing them. It wasn't even directly aimed at them. They couldn't possibly have known that some woman on twitter was posting vaguely offensive stuff about them unless they were seeking that out.
WhatsHisName Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 'Twitter troll' Brenda Leyland found dead in Leicestershire hotel room after being accused of targeting Madeleine McCann's parents, Kate and Gerry http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/kwbw/story-23046710-detail/story.html You can see the interview here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1iNSNko2o9g The stupid woman
David Guiza Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Obviously the fellow who did the interview did not expect that kind of reaction, but it does again highlight members of the media taking their job too far. If it's a criminal offence then it's a matter for the police and authorities to deal with, not some bloke from Sky News.Internet trolling should be looked further into in terms of the law however, far too many people have access to abuse vulnerable people with little to no restraint.
Soar Fox Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 How was she a troll when the McCanns never had Twitter and even Gerry said he had never even read the tweets?

Good point, she was an easy target/story.

WhatsHisName Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 The more I think about this the more it bothers me. The McCann's like most other people don't even use twitter, and most twitter users themselves will not have seen or cared about her postings, so for it to have been made into such a big deal where somebody killed themselves is a terrible
Guest MattP Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Feel for her family but hard to have anything sympahy for her when I read some of the things she wrote. It was way beyond was would would be even considered normal trolling. These people who hide behind everything to make people's lives hell are disgusting anyway and I think it's fantastic when they get outed. If you want to spout off controversial opinions and be a keyboard warrior then put your identity out there.

Alf Bentley Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 I reckon the McCanns did her in. Probably sat in a tapas bar across the road laughing afterwards, sort of people they are. Brenda knew about Cuddle Cat, the cadaver dogs and the return of the Los Palmas 7, I mean the Tapas 7, so they done her in to shut her up, pure and simple. Some will say that I'm a conspiracy theorist, but don't believe them. The evidence is, er, there. To be serious for a mo.... I quite agree with Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot. There's got to be something a bit wrong with you to indulge in this sort of vicious trolling against people you don't even know - beyond the age of 16, anyway. I'm inclined to feel sorry for most people who do it. Probably deeply unhappy or even mentally ill in most cases. I suppose some must just be very unpleasant, spiteful people with no excuse, but I'm guessing that's a minority. Deeply sad and frustrated lives, most of them, I imagine. p.s. Has Matt grown a bit since 1940? Hitler was only about 5ft8, so he only looks about 5ft4. I'm sure he was more like 5ft10 when I met him....Matt, not Adolf. I've never met Adolf.

Bettsj2 Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Hmm. I thought if you were trolling someone you were actually directly abusing them? If either Mcann doesnt actually have a Twitter account, how is that trolling? I havent read what she said but I cant believe it would be any worse than what has been said previously by many?

Alf Bentley Posted 6 October 2014 Posted 6 October 2014 Ignore people who are deeply unhappy and unstable, that'll solve everything. I assume he means that other people on internet forums should ignore the behaviour of trolls, not that everyone should ignore them. If other people on forums or the media (as in this case) confront them, at best it's likely to encourage them, at worst it can be downright dangerous if the person is unstable or desperate. There might be cases in which someone on a forum can help a troll become less unhappy and more reasonable, but they are few and far between, I'd imagine. That's more a job for the trolls themselves, their friends and family, or mental health / social services, if necessary, surely?
