Since when has Osborne been unpopular? His approval ratings are higher than every party leader. He's probably the most trusted big name politician there is at the moment. Not sure he'd make a good leader but it certainly won't be for a lack of current popularity.

Don't get me wrong, his popularity ratings look like Tony Blair's in 1997 compared to Balls at the moment.

However, the last five years and his close involvement with the economic policies probably aren't going to win over many floating voters.

I guess it depends how many of those floating voters have felt the benefit of drastically reduced unemployment, lower tax and above inflation pay increases.

Perhaps the same can't be said of public sector floating voters who will be looking for more borrowed money gravy trains I suppose.

Any chance of not smearing those floating voters who might actually have legitimate concerns, Moose?

My mate counted votes numerous times back in Northern Ireland but, like Northern Ireland politics as a whole, it was a joke from what he said as everyone vote counts as slow as possible to gain as much money as possible due to bekng pakd by hour as opposed to receiving some sort of flat/standardised fee.

This also explains why the results in NI are always last to come through whereas the rest of the UK are on the ball. Hopefully the system in the home country has changed since then...

I can't remember if it's here or in the States but I always laugh at the competition constituencies have to be the first to declare a winner - you see people running with boxes like it's a race.  Nerdatron express pulling in!

Does someone go back and check votes at a slower pace once the election is over to check there's no grave injustice (i.e. Joe Bloggs just saying yer, all in favour of the bloos)?  Can't believe it's not computerised - then again, our work scanner takes three sheets at a time so could we trust it...

Cameron will got after the election unless he wins enough seats to get another coalition at the least. Will be interesting to see who takes over.

Probably David Milliband.

It wouldn't surprise me if he made a return, but only after his brother falls on his sword, and on the other side of the fence.

Privatising waste, not even Thatcher did that!

What a terrible idea. Like Davie says enjoy piles and piles of waste being filled in the countryside, roadside and every place where it can be put without having to pay. It'd be like rail fares, the costs would shoot up massively. Imagine six or seven private companies too sending lorries out at different times of the day clogging up the roads and suburban areas.

Tough luck on your friend, if he's so bothered then why doesn't he sell and spend the money he gets on a hotel for when he's on business. He can throw as much or as little out as he wants then!

NB: most councils in Leics charge for garden waste collections, and it's about £25-40 per year

Wonder how much this league table will change after 7 May...

Had a leaflet today for the Lord Mayor election. Undecided about that. 1st  and 2nd choice. possible 2/3 unfancied ones. Libdem Indie.

When it arrived I thought it was the election ballot paper. Took it out of the letter box then went loo before opening it. Considered putting it to good use. :)

Hate to be a pedant but it's the Mayor you're voting for, not the Lord Mayor.

Lord Mayor is a ceremonial position bestowed on long-serving councillors for annual terms.

I think Lib Dems are getting a pretty raw deal from everyone this time around.

As if you hated it!

If they get rid of Clegg they may do better.

From a distance he comes across as the best party leader by far.

Yes of course but they all piss in the same place.

Surely the best party leader is the one who has most successfully represented the views of his party members and won public support?

How could that be Clegg?

He's seen the Lib Dem vote roughly halve since the election, and many natural Lib Dems disagree with the decisions he's made.

Pedantry corner (1): Gillingham should be blue, surely? Labour lost all their Kent seats in 2010

Pedantry corner (2): Isn't Brighton's stadium in Falmer - in the Lewes constituency; if so, it should be yellow

Pedantry corner (3): If anyone challenges Nottm Forest being blue, you're wrong! As I regularly point out to my Forest-supporting mate, there's only one league club in Nottingham - Notts Co. Their Meadow Lane ground is in Nottingham, but the City Ground is outside Nottingham, in Ken Clarke's Rushcliffe seat. My mate always appreciates me pointing that out.

I wonder what seat Scunthorpe's ground is in? Scunthorpe itself is Labour.

I presume Cambridge's ground is out in the Tory sticks, otherwise that one is wrong as Cambridge has a Lib Dem MP

My best guesses for post-election changes:

- Blue -> Red: Ipswich, Brentford, Wolves, Brighton (stays yellow if in Lewes), Bury, Stevenage, Plymouth, Morecambe, Carlisle

- Yellow -> Red: Burnley, Norwich

- Yellow -> Blue: Portsmouth, Cheltenham

1 or 2 others are too close to call (Watford, Crewe, Yeovil)
