Guest ttfn Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 I wouldn't claim to be "tactically superior" to the man but it is a worry that I can see the diamond formation is a waste of time and he can't. Everybody could see the diamond was a waste of time after Palace. It worked beautifully for one game purely as a negative tactic (ironically enough in a game which finished 5-3) to counteract Manchester United, but we've used it three times since and haven't even looked like scoring.
Guest ttfn Posted 8 November 2014 Posted 8 November 2014 Speaking for myself its definitely the performances that are the issue, and we weren't playing exactly the same system against United. I struggle to see how anyone can think we are playing alright, since the half time whistle blew against Burnley we've been poor, we only looked ok against West Brom because they didn't turn up either yet still left with all three points. Formation needs to change And tactics. Incessantly lumping the ball up to Ulloa is counter-productive. None of our goals this season have come from a long ball to him. You can play whatever fancy formation you like but when the two centre backs and goalkeeper are only interesting in kicking it 60 yards down the pitch then you're never going to get far.
chapero82 Posted 9 November 2014 Posted 9 November 2014 We just defend and hoof it upfield, either to ulloa or to left wing to get to vardy, we are too predictable, pearson said we would play attacking football and we did, until after the Man U game
Guest ttfn Posted 9 November 2014 Posted 9 November 2014 Overall I found this week far less disappointing than last week. I don't have any problem with us setting up to frustrate good sides away from home. Southampton, like Swansea and Chelsea before them, fall into that category. Tactically we set up differently in each of those games, but we came away with the same result in each - a 2-0 defeat, but the table at the end of the season will show Chelsea were a significantly better side than the other two and that result will look like the best, coincidentally whilst deploying a defensive 4-4-1-1 which gave us a massive threat on the counter. Today there was no such threat. Wasyl, Morgan and Cambiasso patrolled the centre of our defensive third of the pitch manfully but at no point was there ever an "out" ball apart from long onto Ulloa's head or over the top for Vardy to chase. Whenever Drinkwater or James did manage to get the ball, by the time they eventually got it under control (it is apparent that neither is playing with any confidence at all at the moment), again their first thought was to hit it over the top to Vardy. This is Sunday League stuff. Vardy is a massive threat over the top, but if 50% of our attacks involve an early ball forward into the channels eventually (and lo and behold already) the opposition will work out how to deal with it. We started with 4 central midfielders today to try and get a grip on midfield and ended up with less than 40% possession. Whatever way you look at it that's pretty embarrassing. Pearson has absolutely got to stop this obsession with controlling the centre of the pitch. Wanyama ran the game from a deep lying midfield position anyway - our 4 central midfielders did nothing to help with that and because we had 4 lads in the middle we had absolutely zero threat out wide. Why Mahrez continues to be overlooked is a total mystery - Southampton went 1-0 up with Powell stripped off and ready to come on. Surely the logical thing to do at that point would be to say "sorry Nick, we need something else now". Given the time wasting from the start of the game it was apparent that we were only there for a 0-0, and I can't imagine Powell was being brought on for anything other than a slight injection of freshness, pace and creativity - 2 of those things Mahrez would have produced significantly more of. The tactics and formation are absolutely insane and it is infuriating. I'm very confident that we have both the players and the manager to keep us not only in the division but to finish well clear of the drop. But the approach has to change and it is baffling how and why we continue to set up in such a negative way when it is only producing negative results.
Dan Posted 9 November 2014 Posted 9 November 2014 To be honest I'm just glad they waited until the 75th minute rather than about the 7th because make no mistake if they had scored early they would've absolutely killed us. I thought we weren't bad defensively, but our heads completely dropped after going a goal down. If that had have happened early on we would've been slaughtered. Our mentality is absolutely disastrous at the minute. It's like every single bit of belief we had was used up in one game against Man Utd and ever since then we just have none at all. We are no longer a dangerous side. Our attacking is utterly woeful and I cannot see where the next goal is coming from. The diamond has got to go. Our full-backs aren't good enough and our four midfielders aren't even closed to being varied enough. All four are good players in their own right, but who other than James occasionally will carry the ball forward - none of them have any pace of note and in-particularly King isn't creative enough. King being a number 10 has always been the biggest myth going. He can finish, but he can't really create. He'll retain the ball, he's one of the ones you would want behind a number ten. He's easier to mark as a number ten and has absolutely no impact on the game as a result. Get Mahrez or Powell in there. I just completely despise the fact we've gone from the most positive period I can remember at this club to this - it reminds me of the days we were a complete and utter also-ran in the Premier League under Adams. We are playing every bit like a team who is going straight back down and we seriously shouldn't be. We are absolutely wasting the best team we have had in years and if it goes on for two more games, dare I say it - even one more, I think Pearson will go. I honestly believe they will sack him if so. With a tough looking December coming up with the January window as well, what better time to get a new manager in? I've always defended Pearson. There are some absolute idiots where he's involved and plenty who put up absolutely no rational arguments against him and just follow the cringeworthy, orthodox stereotypical cretinous phone-in caller thought process and they will piss me off forever. However, there were some arguments made against him such as his stubbornness and his conservative style when under pressure that I'm seeing more and more by every passing game. That, along with this absolutely hideous tendency to completely capitulate has harmed my long term belief in him. He's got so much going for him, but he is definitely not without his faults, and they're probably going to prove costly I'm afraid. The fact it's happened twice just makes me think we're never too far from imploding and that's no matter how well we're playing. Sort this out Pearson. You've got the capabilities deep down.
saintsontherise Posted 9 November 2014 Posted 9 November 2014 I wouldn't be too disheartened with this defeat. As far as not making many chances, nobody has ever really looked like scoring against us at home so far (only charlie austin's so far and what a goal that was!) It may have looked as though you were sitting off and playing negatively but that will be largely down to us not allowing you to play, we've done this to almost every team this season and all too often, the analysis is that the other team played poorly, rather than us not allowing them to play. I wouldn't sack pearson yet, just look to QPR who in recent weeks have played really well but come away with nothing, even today they were unlucky not to take all 3 points, all it takes is one result to turn the season around. Leicester have quality in the side which over the course of the season I think will see you comfortably safe. Good luck for the rest of the season! Except when we visit you in May
Soup Posted 9 November 2014 Posted 9 November 2014 We had a good day didnt we mate. Well, I hope you did! Top day mate.
Dan Posted 9 November 2014 Posted 9 November 2014 Yeah I'll say that much - I thought our fans were a lot better today than they were at the last two so that's one positive.
harpendenfox Posted 9 November 2014 Posted 9 November 2014 Good to wake up to some more balanced posts this morning. Decent post Mr Saintsontherise. So, in conclusion, we love you Nige, but let's start bloody having a go again. Don't have some stupid willy waving standoff with Riyadh. He's good and needs to play.
Wasyls Pec Deck Posted 9 November 2014 Posted 9 November 2014 There were times yesterday when the ball would fall to our defenders, and before the ball even had fallen to them Cambiasso had seen what was happening and got himself in a position, found some space and had moved to receive the ball - at which point the ball would be pumped up field. In other words, some of our players do not have the composure to pick out a pass - resulting in us giving the ball away. After last season I didn't think this would be a problem, but a lot of players look devoid of some of the basics at the moment. Whilst yesterday was better than recent weeks, we still really created very little - and I think it comes down to the use of the ball not being good enough. That and our full backs being well targeted and falling foul nearly every week - down the right in particular. I'm concerned to say the least. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Soup Posted 9 November 2014 Posted 9 November 2014 Yeah I'll say that much - I thought our fans were a lot better today than they were at the last two so that's one positive. For 70 minutes yesterday our fans on the whole were good, just ran out of steam like the players.I thoughts the mocking of their fans after the disallowed goal was hilarious but just knew it would come back to bite us.
babylad92 Posted 9 November 2014 Posted 9 November 2014 we were ****ing brilliant yesterday edit: I meant us away fans not the players obv
Fox92 Posted 9 November 2014 Posted 9 November 2014 Thought Wasyl was supposed to be strong. Pelle backed into him so easy. Very easy goal to concede.
AdamN Posted 9 November 2014 Posted 9 November 2014 Thought Wasyl was supposed to be strong. Pelle backed into him so easy. Very easy goal to concede. I doubt there are many defenders that Pelle would have trouble backing into. The bloke's massive.
Sol thewall Bamba Posted 9 November 2014 Posted 9 November 2014 I doubt there are many defenders that Pelle would have trouble backing into. The bloke's massive. Pelle's an absolute unit. 6 foot 4, must be 14 stone at least.
Soar Fox Posted 9 November 2014 Posted 9 November 2014 Pelle's an absolute unit. 6 foot 4, must be 14 stone at least. And a good looking ba**ard.

chris_lcfc_85 Posted 10 November 2014 Posted 10 November 2014 Couldnt post on here again at the weekend as too annoyed ! However, once again, i find it CRIMINAL that our most creative player Mahrez, sits warming the bench. Before people come back arguing this point, yes i agree he's not the most hard working and yes he can make poor decisions but so what!!!! Its one thing starting him sub, i can handle that but to not use him at all is a disgrace. To be fair for 75 mins we were on for a creditble 0-0 without him but once we conceded, he HAS to come on. Same against WBA last week, the game was crying out for him! Watching WBA last night on the highlights, they got done from crosses for both goals but unfortunately we play a diamond against them
Daveaway Posted 10 November 2014 Posted 10 November 2014 Been thinking our recent dip in form coincides with Hammond not being in the starting 11
benpicko Posted 11 November 2014 Posted 11 November 2014 Just been on the social tab on here.... ....The team aren't very good student's then are they. I'd rather it if we had less lessons though please wasyl
