What match were you watching? More errors than De Laet all season? I don't actually think that's possible within 90 minutes.

De Laet is quicker I give you that, but he's been at fault for a lot of goals this season due to his positional sense, ball watching and tendency to lunge in at the wrong time.

Simpson did well yesterday and he'll only get better with more game time.

You can look at it that way, but you also have to take into consideration the players RDL has been marking all season so far, some absolute world class players way above anything we currently have.

At the Liverpool game last week I made an effort to keep an eye on RDL for a fair bit of the game due to the criticism he's been receiving week in week out on here. For the amount of times he was berated by the fans for making a mistake, there were at least 2-3 occasions for each of those mistakes where he made a terrific tackle or got us out of the shit. I find it a bit ridiculous that people only seem to notice the mistakes he's making, especially when he's up against seasoned internationals week in week out.

Honestly, if you actually go to home games, at the next one make an effort to watch him if he's playing. He gets clapped by the fans way more than he gets abuse, and yet everybody seems to ignore that fact and claim he's utter dogshit.

Many fans got their wishes on Sunday.

Simpson is chosen after RDL injury.

No new threads on the subject.

#No Simpson aint good enough

#No we missed RDL

#No how good or bad or improved the right side of defence was.

# No we need a new RB.

Fellow fans, you disappoint me, not one post I am shocked.

Plus little mention of a top goalkeeping display from Schmeichel.

I'm not sure your hash tags are catchy enough to be honest.

It wasn't even their winger that got a run on us, it was mostly their left back who should have been the man of Mahrez.

Quite correct, where was Schlupp or Mahrez that they weren't tracking Huttons run.

Schlupp was covering for CB's who were still up from the set piece

I was happy for the first 15 mins or so as mahrez seemed to have a bit of freedom to run at their defence which is always going to be dangerous. I thought it may have been because he was more comfortable with Simpson than de laet, but as the game went on mahrez was having to drop deeper and deeper to defend which was a bloody shame.

Our key requirement in defending against Villa was to prevent crosses into the penalty area. Their first dangerous cross, after just a few minutes, evaded Benteke by about a metre... from Simpson's side. Agbonlahor got the time and space to work the ball over from the same sort of area for their winning goal and there were other examples.

It's harsh to judge a player so soon so I won't, but we failed to achieve the key tactical requirement necessary to limit Villa's chances and it cost us the game in the end.

As for DeLaet, he's been disappointing this season in general. So right now I've little confidence in either of our right backs. In fact with Konchesky due a suspension we're looking decidedly fragile in the full-back department at a time when we need everyone available and on top of their game.

Defensively he's head and shoulders above RDL.

He's probably better attacking as well, how often does RDL actually put a good cross in?
