Many fans got their wishes on Sunday.

Simpson is chosen after RDL injury.

No new threads on the subject.

#No Simpson aint good enough

#No we missed RDL

#No how good or bad or improved the right side of defence was.

# No we need a new RB.

Fellow fans, you disappoint me, not one post I am shocked.

Plus little mention of a top goalkeeping display from Schmeichel.

You're shocked that Simpson hasn't been judged on one game and that people are not making positive threads about a goalkeeper who's been pretty poor lately?

I don't even think Simpson was bad.

Simpson was awful.

Nowhere to be seen when Agbonlahor cantered up the wing to set up the second and was beaten by Villa's wingers at every occasion.

De Laet played well on Tuesday but he's had an overall poor season. Hopefully when he returns he gets back to his old confident self of last season.

But one of his central defenders (big Was) pushed up high and when he lost the ball Simpson was covering his position too?

Should have just put Agbonlahor in Row Z.

Simpson was so much better defensively compared to De Laet. His positional sense and judgement on when to make a challenge is far superior.

I just hope he stays in the team now. I can't deal with Dodgy De Laet for the rest of the season.

This is a joke right? Simpson made more awareness and tackling errors than DeLaet has all season.. and he's made a few.

DeLaet is quicker, stronger, and understands the team - Simpson isn't ready and needs time in the U21s, he looked so out of place.

Kasper was phenomenal yesterday. This is what he needed, deputising while the captain was out, making some fantastic saves and commanding the team forward. Not at fault for either goal. Point blank header comes down to Moore not sticking with man, and Hutton's hoof couldn't have been placed any better from that angle.

I'm with OP.

Simpson was caught flat-footed on every Villa attack down that flank, going forward I thought he was as limited as Konchesky

Would be interested to see much more of him, but RDL's pace will see him play every day of the week and twice on matchdays

However RDL is having a very difficult season, not only is he coping with an attacking midfielder, but as is the way with the Premier League - fullbacks are attacking players and RDL often has two men on him with scant cover being provided whoever plays in front of him.

Simpson coped okay with a difficult afternoon provided by Agbonlahor and Cissokho. He looked steady and got forward fairly well too. I felt more comfortable with him in the defence as opposed to RDL. He's a proven premiership right back and was a consistent performer for Newcastle in the premiership which is everything we could want in a defender playing join our first season back in the big time.

Yeah I felt quite confident with Simpson on the right. With RDL you're always just wondering what he's going to do next...

Don't really think you can blame Simpson for Villa's winner. At the end of the day, Agbonlahor had to check back and play it inside, so Simpson did his job.

Thought Simpson was solid and better technically than RDL.

He was partly to blame for the first goal, but I put it down to not playing week in week out with the back line. The whole back line dropped when the ball got played in, but Simpson stayed man to man. If he dropped with the rest of them he would have easily cut out the cross.

I'm baffled when I read posts like these. It just seems so detached from what really happened.

De-leat has struggled in most game this season, and Simpson has been very unlucky not to get a chance before now.

Simpson looked like he needs games, and when he's had the same run of games that de-leat has had, then it would be fair to compare the two.

Our defense as a whole was poor Sunday, but a player who hasn't played all season needs half a dozen games, to get up to speed.

What match were you watching? More errors than De Laet all season? I don't actually think that's possible within 90 minutes.

De Laet is quicker I give you that, but he's been at fault for a lot of goals this season due to his positional sense, ball watching and tendency to lunge in at the wrong time.

Simpson did well yesterday and he'll only get better with more game time.
