Probably some dickhead white convert, thinking he's got the balls to do something in his tiny little life and bottling it. Agree with this although I reckon he's probably a 2nd or 3rd generation Afghan immigrant who lives a pretty comfortable suburban life. It's basically like an American high school shooting with an Islamic twist, and so far no actual shooting. My guess is that he'll end it by taking his own life and nobody else's.

Quite unexpected, I was expecting him to be a radicalized child of Sunni Lebanese/Syrian immigrants. He is such a coward, attacking a teeny-tiny cafe, just laughable really. Hope everyone comes out of this alive and unhurt.

Weird that he was even walking the street. Sounds an absolutely mentalcase. I have a feeling he is going for some "death by cop" thing to be remembered. Hopefully they get him alive.

The Iranian-born man, who apparently converted from Shia Islam to Sunni only last week, has also been accused of being an accessory in the killing of his ex-wife, a charge for which he remains on bail.

A beautiful and positive thing to come from the siege is the #illridewithyou hashtag has become the number one topic on twitter. After a number of threats and people being forced to remove their headscarfes etc #illridewithyou is the offer from non muslims to ride with Muslims on public transport and help them feel safe and welcomed.
