MHC Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 I was thinking that .... It's a no lose situation for us .... we make an offer and get him = happy days ..... we make a bid and lose out = we've unsettled a major competitor's main man!!! That's very clever management when I think about it.
Guest Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 I think we want a striker and we're making moves on the top 5/6 that we like the look of. Depending on the responses we get, we go from there.
dannythefox Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 how can Burnley afford to let him leave for nothing at the end of the season is beyond me, they'd probably get 10m for him and that's a hell of a lot to miss out on being a small club.

I guess it depends on how they perceive the rest of the season panning out. Tough call!
Guest Col city fan Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 Some strange posts on this thread surely? Are people really saying they wouldn't like us to sign Danny Ings? I see him as a really good player now and will only get better. His work rate is exemplary, apparently he's great to work with and would score far more goals in a better side. In a Leicester side where only Ulloa looks capable of scoring goals regularly at this level, I'd take Ings in a heartbeat.
Freesolo Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 Your going to end up paying over the odd's for a striker who isn't even proven in the prem, I would be disappointed if we bought Danny Ings for something like 7 million
Guest Bilo Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 If it's a choice between Ings or Defoe in our situation, I'd have to go for Defoe. We need a proven goalscorer who will hit the ground running rather than 'one for the future.' If we stay up and Burnley go down, knock on Burnley's door in the summer when we'll be in a better bargaining position.

If we paid 7 mill for a young striker who scored enough to keep us in the Prem, it would be great value. If we end up going down, he's proven in the Championship and would spearhead our attack next season. Win-win for me. The point is, I don't think he'd come. He's waiting for bigger in the summer i expect.
Buzzell Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 Your going to end up paying over the odd's for a striker who isn't even proven in the prem, I would be disappointed if we bought Danny Ings for something like 7 million 7 million for an young, English striker who scores at ease in the Championship and also has found the net on numerous occasions at this level. He will only improve. If we could have him at 7 million, I'd be delighted.
Freesolo Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 We are on a little streak and im all in for bringing in another striker as long as he doesn't upset the apple cart. I really dont know his cost 7million was a guess? But like others have said Burnley would never sell him to us, would we sell Ulloa to them?

I'd be very surprised to see him come here but if we have put in a bid for him, it's a very clever move from Pearson, like someone has already stated.Maybe were trying to unsettle Ings? Us put in a bid so that more team's jump into the que and make Ings head turn? Who knows. But if Burnley are being offered a decent amount for him over January, you'd think it would be stupid of them to turn it down considering he's out of contract in the summer.

DB11 Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 I assuming we're doing this as adults? Of course he'll leave, more than likely in the summer, unless a big offer comes in. But, he won't leave to aside that will, more than likely, be relegated. I agree. Similar to how neither Leicester nor Burnley let any first team players go in January of last year - they needed them for the final push to promotion, even if it was at risk of letting the players go for nothing in the summer. In Leicester's case most of them eventually signed new contracts but even if they all left for free the prize or promotion (or this year, staying up) is much greater than any transfer fee.
Jamiebux Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 Wouldn't burnley still get a fee at the end of the season because of his age? Obviously not as much as they could sell for now.
justfoxes Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 They're just waiting for that offer they can't resist !!

At this stage of their careers I'd take Ings. The bloke is so clever and elusive. Scores goals, makes them and makes space aplenty. Who'd ever want to mark the guy. He'd give you nightmares. Doesn't mean I wouldn't have Defoe though! .

Freesolo Posted 4 January 2015 Posted 4 January 2015 Its a non topic IMO Burnley are never selling him unless its for stupid money which there is zero proof he is is worth and we wouldnt pay, might as well put this thread to bed. zzz

With you on this..I'd pay 10-12 mil for him.Same as Austin. Not more though. If I was a top PL manager, I'd risk 18 mil. On another post you mentioned ambitions, so surely these 2 ambitions must be a top 6 club, no bottom middle of the table club, the thought or hope of one of these 2 is random speculation . Just a dream and a poney on wayward medication, what if the Thais suddenly let loose, and told NP to get Ings and Austin at all costs, and secure a top end midfielder....ahhh that what dreams does to fans.
