What about Bosnia?

Been very tempted of late by Bosnia as there are some crazy flight prices

Went last month. Sarajevo is a great base. Very cheap, people are really friendly, plenty of excursions available from Sarajevo and so much history. Know of a great tour company that I used when I was there that were very reliable and helpful. The Airport is tiny in Sarajevo. When I turned up in the morning there was only one flight departing before the Stansted flight at 10:45am! Really interesting place to visit

Really enjoyed Stockholm for 4 days. Friday evening flight, left yesterday morning. Extremely lucky with gorgeous weather - perfect with the sunlight hours beginning at 5am, end at 8pm.

It's a city what lacks an outright landmark, so doesn't get itself plastered all over tourism suggestions. While in the process, it probably has more to do than a lot of European capitals. I was just disappointed we didn't get out on the archipelago. A lot to do for children (around Djugardens) while Sodermalm is firmly in that gentrified bracket. Struggle to find a city with so many bars and restaurants seemingly busy all the time - the post work pint hasn't disappeared from Sweden anyway. Two to three areas with very distinctive feels but all of it clean, efficient and low on chaos. Reminded me of Vienna but probably better because it feels some what anglo-led, they have more in common with us (Swedes) than most of Europe.

It helped I had one of the best travel experiences I've ever had watching football but still highly recommend. Understand the concerns about the price but we found ti to be not too far off London prices. There was the occasional expensive beer if you use imported for example but food in restaurants was probably 10% more expensive. Accommodation was difficult to find decent value and you have to be canny getting to Arlanda (the Express is a rip-off when they are traditional trains twice a hour running to Uppsala which stop there at two thirds the price). Would love to go in the summer and get out on the islands. However, I think we got lucky going in April having good weather and tourists were not grabbing every inch of the pavement.

It's a lovely place, very relaxed. We did a week when we played there in the ICC, which I think was July. Aside from the 2 days with the few thousand city fans, it still wasn't that busy. We rented an apartment a bit out of town, which was pretty cost effective compared to the hotels.

Having also sailed into Stockholm, I can highly recommend getting out into the archipelago.

So looking for something special, late march/April next year around two weeks. It’s our delayed honeymoon and we fancy something a bit different. Certainly a week relaxing but then a few days city break or adventure wise. One idea was Thailand, elephant safari for two days and canoe before hitting a beach. Any other suggestions or experiences welcome????

Sri Lanka seemed to get lots of positives a few pages back.

I'm going next Jan/Feb for a bit of cricket. Elephants there too !

Namibia. An acquaintance is currently on safari there - https://gondwana-collection.com/accommodation/etosha-safari-lodge

Although, more limiting for beaches. Prior to this they were on safari in South Africa, https://www.dulini.com/ after staying in Cape Town, which does have great beaches.

What are peoples opinion on Dubai?. Thinking of easter next year.

Depends on what you want from a holiday.
It’s very Marmite.
I hated it.

I loved it. Obviously depends on what you're looking for. I toured the old town and souks, a dhow boat tour, had high tea at the Burj and loved the miracle gardens. Studiously avoided the malls, Atlantis and all the very commercial stuff.

Was superb not that long ago, felt like proper Arabia as well as great partying and food. Now just another place ruined by happy clapping westerners on anxiety tablets. Go to Bahrain instead

Verona is class

Liberation day tomorrow so you should get some good manifestazione. Though maybe not quite as much in Verona as it's quite a right wing town.

Plenty of multi centre holiday choices in Asia, I would recommend any combination of Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, Singapore, Bintan, Bangkok, Bali.

Singapore is a good base to go onto places in the region but is a great destination in its own right.

Some good deals if you can book in advance, and emirates holidays will have deals on half board or full boards/ kids eat free in some hotels, although don’t often have sales

Last time I went ended up staying outside Dubai nr the theme parks with family, so literally nothing around it but taxi or metro into the city was easy.  Going again to same place later in the year.

I preferred Bahrain, I lived there for a year, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Bahrain is very enjoyable, I bet quality of life was good. I fear it will be ruined by the happy clappers on package holidays soon

Really good, people have perception of Arabs, for a guy that had just moved down, I met some of the most generous big hearted people ever.

Quality of life wise, it's a very capitalistic place.  You got money, life is great.

It's only time until it will be ruined

I was only there for a few hours but loved it.

Yeah it’s so clean and chilled out. Great places to eat and drink wine and good location to visit other places. Prefer it to Rome

We only stayed at the beginning and end of a cruise so not long, and our experience was very much like @FoyleFoxwe loved the old part, the souks and the dhow boat with the locals was the highlight for us. We did do the Frame which was nice, and the fountain show at the Burj Khalifa was enjoyable.

We are planning to go back for a bit longer but only because our teenage daughter wants to go, if not for that we probably wouldn't bother. Having said that it's probably somewhere everyone should try once given the opportunity, after all many people love it.

Anyone been to Rijeka or at least flown into there?

Looking for a week in September somewhere and really decent flight prices from Stanstead.

Town itself isn't that great but it's a good base to explore Istria and some of the islands. Or you could take a boat straight away and stay a few days on Cres, Rab or Losinj. Will be pretty peaceful in September I think.
