Yeh man will do, not too bothered about the trip but figured I should float in the Dead Sea and see Petra before that region is lost.
Harsh on Abu Dhabi! Worth seeing if you do get the chance, really fun partying and restaurant scene if that’s your thing. Like dubai but without all the Europeans making the place soulless and corporate

Believe me, I'd love too but snow, covid and war have had other ideas lol

We had a day in Abu Dhabi last year and we also preferred it to Dubai. Etihad do a stopover programme so we're flying with them to Singapore next year and making use of it, 2 nights paid for in Abu Dhabi in a choice of lovely hotels, so that might be something for you to look in to if you haven't already, obviously depending where you're going in the future

Who knows.....What I book and where I go aren't always aligned lol

We did look at that Etihad stopover last year on the way back from Sydney, but were a bit concerned it would impact our jet lag recovery, plus we'd been away for 6 weeks already. And, we thought we were going this year!

I've seen the outskirts as we had to get the Emirates coach from Dubai to Abu Dhabi when playing 'catch up' with the ship after our Beast from the East flight cancellation in 2018. And we sailed by in 2020 but weren't allowed to dock...

Anyone ever been to Cadiz ? We are stopping about 40 mins away in June and wasn't sure if it was worth a visit.

Would be me the wife and a 3 year old....

very pretty city - moorish architecture as Kenny says Andalucia’s cities are all worth of time (well outside the traditional 1970 holidays resorts)

Can you get away with using standard rucksacks on Ryanairs small bag sizing?

We have a 20kg booked in anyway, havent flown with them for a couple of years, never been had before and I'm sure weve used our normal day to day rucksacks before( What the kids take to school)

The Ryanair limit for small personal bag (40x20x25cm)

So, like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/RYANAIR-40x20x25cm-Carry-Underseat-Backpack/dp/B0DJBT8XRT/ref=asc_df_B0DJBT8XRT?mcid=8248c9afce203419b5eff2fc1790e1fc&hvocijid=7894559136007098611-B0DJBT8XRT-&hvexpln=74&tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=696285193871&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7894559136007098611&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9214408&hvtargid=pla-2281435177418&psc=1&gad_source=1

If you have paid for a cabin bag thats 10kg bag (55x40x20cm)

Totally depends on how arsed they are at the gate. But not worth the risk. Buy a bottle of voddy from duty free and stuff your excess luggage in the carrier bag

Yes as long as it's not rammed full. You can take a really big rucksack as long as you can stuff it in the small rack if asked.

The idiots that get done at the gate are those that ram their bags full so they are larger than the allowable.

We fly away to Mallorca this Sunday. The wife has received an email telling her we've been referred to the council for pulling the children out of school.

Anybody done this before? Any ideas when the fine will hit?

Nope, I never got done. But then again I never told them it was a holiday. Just that the kids wouldn't be able to 'attend school on following dates'

I have heard from others tho who've been done who say the fine is per parent, per kid. So 4 fines for 2 kids. Maybe see what happens if you say just one of you went?

Minimum £80 per parent per child. Max £2500.

My mate ended up in court because he took his out twice in a year and refused to pay the fine. Ended up having to pay £800 plus court costs...

It's a joke, really is.

Taking mine out for the last 2 days of term next week, and I'm probably going to be punished for being honest with them. I've heard other parents say they weren't fined if it's just a couple of days in the year so hopefully we'll be OK. My son hasn't missed a day in 2 years if that makes any difference whatsoever. This is primary school, not sure if it's different with secondary.

Going to Sydney in late November. What, apart from the obvious, should I be doing?

Book yourself in at "Cafe Sydney" one evening for food. Make sure you ask for a table at the front with views of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, you wouldn't even know it's there from the road. Food is brilliant, views are even better.

That's a whole week early before the half term break?

Why do you think you shouldn't be fined for taking your kids out a whole week out of school early?

Dont want to sway away from the thread, mallorca is fantastic  by the way!

Take them out pay the fine if you get one, you’ll still be saving a significant amount of money. Or just say it’s an Indian wedding you’re attending.

I’ve took mine out the past 2 years and didn’t receive a fine.

Just re-read my comment, at what point have I said I shouldn't be fined? We're fully aware of what we're doing and I will do it again, I was just questioning when the fine will hit.

We've been very open with the school about it all.

Don't think it matters if their attendance is 100% or 50%, if you miss x amount many school sessions, you get referred either way. Looking at yours, they'll only miss 4 sessions, so you should be OK. They refer when it hits 10.

lol Could you imagine it. I'm sure they'd go to town and try and prove the booking had two on and both of us caught the flight. We've got the money for it anyway, just wandering when you get notified.

Shouldn't have told them.  Just tell em the kids were ill with vomiting and diarroheo and you work in the food industry and had it as well when you get back.......simples.

Perhaps the schools could agree to this, then both teachers and parents wouldn't both be held to ransom and ripped off by inflated school holiday prices.

Although, I'd need notifying as I book to avoid school holidays...

With regards to cabin sized backpacks, I’d recommend the company Cabin Max. Their bags are all on Amazon. I’ve had this one for years (but they have loads of different designs and sizes), when it first arrived I thought it would be flimsy but it’s surprisingly strong. One of the clips for the handles broke a couple of years ago but I just emailed the company and they sent me a replacement clip for free.
