People feeling antagonised says more about themselves than the person writing the post.

Sensitivity is the issue here, people need to grow up and not feel threatened at some words on the internet!

Yes they do.

Highlighting a section of a post so the inference of the original context is lost might possibly be found slightly amusing by someone on here, so kudos for the effort there.

Some people do seem to read an awful lot of negativity into posts. Every one of my posts is saturated in good natured cheerfulness for example but some people seem to read them with a automatic frown. I guess that reflects more on them than on me so come on guys let's turn those frowns upside down and start assuming the best and not the worst, life should be one big party and general chat is no different so let's celebrate

That's of course your prerogative. Others, of course, also have the right to express their displeasure at someone being deliberately antagonistic.

I think words are pretty important in the grand scheme of things (people have died because of them), but on here? Yeah, it's all pretty much unimportant. That being said, I really don't see the point in making a point - even on here - in an aggressive manner that you know is probably going to piss people off either for kicks or because you think that manners aren't really important in Internet interaction, but hey.

People are inherently different in how they express themselves, in written and oral form.

Whose to say one way is better than the other?

The most vociferous group it seems on here has the upper hand. The lowly lurkers or people with other things to do, don't get the option unless they speak up and choose the status quo.

Let things be, they will Peter out on their own, they don't need assistance from the moderators little helper elves!

Where do you want to draw the line with that? Do you, in fact, want to draw the line at all? Because everything you've said here could easily be applied to anything from racist abuse, to promotion of paedophilia. Is that the kind of 'freedom of speech' you want?

Assuming that you don't, then clearly a line must be drawn somewhere, in which case you're not arguing about freedom of speech at all, merely where we draw the line.

I have seen responses to your posts that are pretty harsh Col but it seems because you are civil in your retort, they get left alone.

I could drum up hundreds of posts on here that should be considered removable if today's rule of thumb was to be followed but they being there still are what contributes to my belief that if you are a dedicated follower of certain posters, you will be left alone with impunity!

Use the 'Report' feature then.

That's how most of the stuff works... If it's 50/50 or arguable then it is left unless someone takes offence to it and reports it. Things that are downright out of order or libellous will go as soon as a moderator identifies it, either themselves or via the report feature.

Very fair post that..

However, I remember when very few of us started to criticise Beckford's contribution to the team, long before many could see that he was, in fact, pants.

Like myself, I believe you also had your fair share of stick over that. And that it went on for quite some time if I remember. Suddenly, you and I became 'mates' because we were saying the same thing, if I recall.

I'm opiniated, but generally try to be fair. This can be seen as 'flip-flopping'.a term that you yourself have used, to take the piss I think...lets have it right? When actually, I'm just trying to be as balanced as I can be.

I've even tried to do this re. Cambiasso..I've stated wait and see, I've stated I think our midfield is less mobile with him in it, but I've also stated I see him being a 'model pro' with definately a part to play.

The latter bits (conveniently) get overlooked in favour of 'Cambi bashing'.

But I'm used to it. Sven, Beckford, Cambiasso..I've seen the same in all three.

Col, the mistake you made was not in preferring a Cattermole type signing to Cambiasso, it wasn't even in posting that opinion it was your continual defence and response to everyone who brought it up. Trying to justify it and digging a deeper hole. If you had just stated your opinion and left rather than hanging around the thread responding to every idiot saying you think Cattermole is better than Cambiasso then only a handful of people would have seen it, instead it was on page after page of that thread and every subsequent which just meant everyone saw the argument.

i think the only time deleting posts is a travesty is a) when it's one of my posts and it's funny or b) when it's a hot celeb in the hot celebs thread and it's deleted because you can see some nipple #freethenipple.

everyone should chill out and post their hottest celebs in the hottest celeb thread to vent their anger instead of making silly threads like this imo.

The right to free speech only protects you from government censorship - so I can't be arrested for saying George osbourne looks like a stoned tree frog and has no idea what he's doing. Everything else, newspapers, radio stations, TV shows, forums - they have the right to refuse content for whatever reason they feel like. Conversely they can also publish what they like, provided it's not libellous or illegal: hence why Charlie Hebdo can publish those cartoons of Mohammed. They're free to publish them, people are free to be offended by them, the only problem comes when those offended break the laws with their reaction.

To be fair... truth is the ultimate defence*

*(I dont even know what George Osborne looks like :) )

edit... just checked... defo not a tree frog... a Vampire perhaps?

At least you got the point.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this forum or the way its run.

I've had posts deleted, topics deleted and several bans, each time on reflection, perfectly justified.

The OP posted a generalised attack on a section of the crowd. There was no balance in the post and it was rightly deleted.

Some people post without thinking (guilty as charged), some get on their high horse, some have good points, some have bad. You dont need to agree with someone but as long as your point is made in the right way and you acknowledge any reply with a little bit of balance, there will be no problem.

Its when no balance exists and there is no real point when things get deleted.

I've never been banned from this forum and considering some of the things I've written I'd say we don't have too much of a problem with censorship.

Can we just have a Croatians-only policy for new sign ups? This place is rapidly filling with bellends and this thread is fvcking dire.

Apologies to all the non-dickheads but the ratio is starting to get a bit on the shit side.

Oh no, I've never had a post on here deleted, so clearly somewhere along the line I've gone drastically wrong. Given that I don't have 15,000 posts and have never played 5-a-side down St Margaret's with the usual suspects, I can only assume that this is because my posting has faded into the grey matter that is 99% of FoxesTalk! Usually I consider myself a bit of a renegade, so you can see why this is of concern to me.

Any tips for an aspiring maverick who'd like to improve his posting career? What sort of statements could I come out with that'd generate the most amount of controversy? I feel like my human rights haven't been violated even nearly enough as of yet.  :nono:

Same here. lol

I've really pushed my luck simply by having a warped sense of humour.

Don't be called Adam.

If there is a more mediocre user name, then I suspect it belongs to a fellow GCSE dude that you befriend.

Clearly, the issue is with apparent newbs.

There was a thread called 'Am I wasting my time here?' which was similar to your concerns.
