It’s a very good village curry house, and actually Indian, rather than your usual stock Bangladeshi village curry house. The owner there is a good character too. Mountsorrel really does have it all! I was in there on the 27th and the service was a bit slow but the food was as solid as ever! Be fuming if it ever went

Have you tried The Clowes on Portsmouth Road? I keep meaning to try it but haven’t got round to going there yet.

Only thing that is missing imo is good restaurant that sits somewhere between an Indian restaurant and a Michelin starred one lol

I suppose Quorn is only 5 minutes away

That’s true. Hoping to try the John’s House lunch menu for £50 soon

I went about 3/4 years ago. It was okay but wasn’t bothered about going back. It’s under new management now though so might be better.

I’ve only had the lunch menu there but by far the best meal I’ve ever had. Sometimes I’m very tempted by their posts about cancellations on instagram but a c. £200 meal out for two is just overly decadent (for me).

If you were staying at the Belmont Hotel and needed to pick a restaurant for 6 people including 4 people in their early twenties, one of whom is an extremely picky eater, where would you choose? My husband and I will be over from Spain for the Charlton match with our daughter and her Charlton supporting boyfriend, and we will be meeting up with my son and his girlfriend to take them out for dinner, probably on the match day.

Staying at the Belmont and we will have a car but don't really want to drive when we're in the city already.

There must be loads of options but it's years since we've been into town, so I feel like I need some help!

If she’ll eat burgers Crafty Burger really is excellent. You’ll absolutely have to book in advance however

I'd second this if you're still there on the Sunday. Had a great sunday roast in there a couple of months ago.

One to avoid sadly would be Casa Romana. We went a couple of weeks ago and having visited regularly for the past 30 years, it has gone downhill.
The quality of the food was nowhere near what it used to be and whilst being the same as it has always been was a selling point over the years, it badly needs dragging into the present day.

No way!!!!

Whats happened? That place was literally Leicesters best Italian.

In other news, not in the City, but I thoroughly recommend Peppervines at Sycamores, Burbage. Really really good food and top quality.

Nip Into The Cross Keys for a Guiness while you’re over there too, their Guinness is probably the best around this area.

Can also confirm that Casa Romana was incredibly average when I went about a year ago

Not really the area that Debs was after but a second vote for Peppervines, really good food, always enjoyed it there.

Not Leicester, but the Szechuan in Loughborough does very good Chinese food - it's always full of Chinese students from the uni. Not one to take the Mrs to, as it's very basic inside, but the food is much more authentic and less greasy than your standard UK Chinese
