surrifox Posted 23 January 2015 Share Posted 23 January 2015 we'll probably win this but the way we failed to exploit the last 5-6 overs and put the game beyond them (Australia B don't forget) explains why we have never won the World Cup; we just do the wrong things at important times in the game and lack the ruthlessness to see games out - pretty discouraging
surrifox Posted 23 January 2015 Share Posted 23 January 2015 Painful watching this ending, good work thrown away and should have got to 350 comfortably. Bopara painful to watch. Aus just had their tightest over of the innings in the 47th. yes agreed - and over the past few years he has been possibly one of our most reliable finishers and bats with pragmatism - spot on - painful today
Guest MattP Posted 23 January 2015 Share Posted 23 January 2015 Should have done better given the start but after the past two years I never thought I'd see the day we got 300+ after being put in If we didn't get 300 on this pitch we never would, last international here India chased down Sri Lanka's 340 in 36 overs Last ten overs cost us big today, we may have held them with 50 more. If Ravi is only going to bowl the odd couple of overs a match now it's going to be hard to justify his selection given he barely averages 30 in this format which isn't good enough for a specialist batsman. Guest MattP Posted 23 January 2015 Share Posted 23 January 2015 Can't defend 300+ embarassing. Not today mate, 320-325 is par is Hobart. Middle order take the blame. 59-6 off the last ten overs going into it with just two out is shambolic.

Bobby Hundreds Posted 23 January 2015 Share Posted 23 January 2015 Australia are 5/2 to win the world cup, they are definitely favourites but that is a cack price.

Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 25 January 2015 Share Posted 25 January 2015 KP stirring things up again, calling county players on £18.000 "muppets" and that there should be a ten team franchise based T20 in England rather than the current set up, obviously it would mean no more Leics. He is basing his opinion on the success of The Big Bash and the IPL, what he tends to forget is cricket is the number 1 sport in Aus and India and the weather they have. Would cricket fans here support say an East Midlands based franchise? Playing at Trent Bridge. I guess it's another tournament for crickets mercenary players like KP to line their pockets. ADK Posted 25 January 2015 Share Posted 25 January 2015 As a non cricket fan I do quite like the T20 games but think you would need more teams to make it popular, why would I want to watch a team based in Nottingham?

It would have to be Nottingam (Trent Bridge) as it has by far the highest capacity in the East Mids, people would go for the spectacle but I don't think people would be able to identify with a regional franchise. The talk is of 10 franchises, so 8 counties would miss out.

I would hate it, we are Leicestershire, not East Midlands Sixers or Daredevils or whatever. Depriving grounds of big games, such as Leicester and Derby, would make people lose interest. RowlattsFox Posted 25 January 2015 Share Posted 25 January 2015 Something does need to be done though as our competition is poor in comparison. Not sure franchises would work due to the county set up but it does need to be a quick fire tournament over a couple of weeks, rather than spread through the summer. Would personally have one minor county added to the competition every year, after some kind of qualifying competition. Need to attract the better players too. Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 25 January 2015 Share Posted 25 January 2015 It was a mistake spreading our T20 over such a long period, I agree with RowlettsFox that it should be a quick fire tournament but probably over a month, overseas player restrictions should be relaxed allowing up to 4 overseas compared to the current 2. The T20 was a good way for all the Counties to make money, now it seems the 10 or so biggest counties want all of the pie, Leics 3 T20 wins, Notts, Yorks, Lancs, 0 wins between them yet they would be amongst the biggest beneficiaries of a franchise system due to their stadium size, and goodbye Leics. Mark 'expert' Lawrenson Posted 30 January 2015 Share Posted 30 January 2015 Bopara fails yet again. How many chances is this guy going to get? Been under performing for years at international level, time for Roy or Vince to get their opportunity.
tripe Posted 30 January 2015 Share Posted 30 January 2015 Haven't followed crikcet or a while know. This is a limited overs match? You're not doing that bad. Just under 4 runs an over with 10 overs to spare. 5 wickets in hand and a good patnership. Did you lose to Aussies after scoring over 300 a couple of days ago? What's South Africa like these days? Still choke at the big tournaments?

I disagree with "been under performing for years at international level", he was one of the few senior players that came out of last year with a modicum of credit. However, if we're not going to us him as a bowler in limited overs then there are other players we can use solely as batsmen.
