Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 29 July 2015 Posted 29 July 2015 I do wonder. Fair enough! Bowled brilliantly this morning.
TheSomersetFox Posted 29 July 2015 Posted 29 July 2015 Hopefully Finn's back to the heights he was hitting in that home series against the Saffers a few years back. Wood offers far more with the bat and they both reach similar speeds but Finny just seems to have a bit more about him.

purpleronnie Posted 29 July 2015 Posted 29 July 2015 Never fails to rain at edgbaston. About the only place around where its raining, typical.
Captain... Posted 29 July 2015 Posted 29 July 2015 Great start to the test, bowlers really looking dangerous, Rogers being a limpet again but getting Warner, Smith, Clarke cheaply is excellent. Shame about the rain, although it means I might actually get some work done now.
foxfanazer Posted 29 July 2015 Posted 29 July 2015 Brilliant response from us after the last test. Getting Smith out so early is fantastic. Rogers living on the edge a bit too. Hopefully the rain doesn't affect our momentum
leicsmac Posted 29 July 2015 Posted 29 July 2015 If he is we could green up the pitches, drop Mooen and play all 4 seamers. We need some kind of spinner, if only to rest the seamers enough to rotate them. We certainly would need one in any other place but England.

If we have Anderson, Broad, Stokes, Wood and Finn on the pitch we won't need too much rest, if we do need it then Root can do that job as capable as Ali can. I'm thinking of the model of the excellent South Africa team from 3-4 years back, they had Steyn, Morkel, Philander and either Parnell or McLaren alongside Kallis using overs with Duminy doing the rest spell as a part time spin option with a new ball. They didn't bother with a spinner if they didn't have one who was good enough.

Brainy Posted 29 July 2015 Posted 29 July 2015 We'd have been all out by now then if we'd been batting
TheSomersetFox Posted 29 July 2015 Posted 29 July 2015 May aswell hand those Sunday tickets back chaps be amazed if this goes 5 days, rain delays or not
Swarles Barkley Posted 29 July 2015 Posted 29 July 2015 Funny what happens when we have a pitch our bowlers can actually get wickets on. Lords was a joke

I think Root does that job well enough personally. I certainly don't think he's disrespected any less by batsmen than Moeen seems to be.
Grandad. Posted 29 July 2015 Posted 29 July 2015 94/7! Brilliant bowling from Jimmy, his 18th 5 wicket haul.

Would be happier with that if Broad was batting like he used to, I would like to see Root bowl a lot more often, not long sessions but , see if he can do a proper part time job, he has 4 wickets this series which is impressive. Ali has a lot going on, and if he can just improve a little bit with either bat or ball or both he could be a great player for us, you could say the same about Stokes. Sometimes I think it should be an either or with those 2. If it is a seaming wicket Stokes as the all rounder, if it is a spinning wicket then Ali, between them they normally cobble together enough runs and overs as a specialist bowler and batter, but when there is no assistance in the pitch, or we are under pressure batting I would rather have a specialist of each in there than 2 all-rounders. When we are on top having both is great as we can really rotate the bowlers and have some serious batting down to 8.
