BlueSi13 Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Criminal. Can't see us recovering from this quite frankly.
Super_horns Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Top order is a mess. Even Cook and Root got out easily.
Matt Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 I'm just annoyed I didn't take the 13/8 on Australia to win the series when they were 1-0, won't see that price again
FrankieADZ Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 im still wondering how Lyth is getting away with it all tbh, Robson got less chance didnt he when he went to partner cook
RonnieTodger Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Why can't England lose without getting humiliated?
notnow john Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Why can't England lose without getting humiliated? Great point.
davieG Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Why can't England lose without getting humiliated? I'm sure if there were penalty shoot outs that's where we'd lose it.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Lyth, Ballance and Bell really are under pressure. Bell especially in the last year just doesn't justify his place. He never scores runs when he has to dig in, only when there is no pressure on he will get a nice 60.
marko Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Lyth, Ballance and Bell really are under pressure. Bell especially in the last year just doesn't justify his place. He never scores runs when he has to dig in, only when there is no pressure on he will get a nice 60. Whilst he's been in poor form this year your statement about easy runs is utter rubbish. Just look back to the last Ashes series here. Earlier in his career I'd have agreed but that's not been true for the last 4 or 5 years. Back in 2009/10 when he helped save the series against South Africa with a superb knock in the 2nd innings of the 3rd Test is when he started stepping up. He certainly needs a score in the next Test (I'd keep him in with Edgbaston being his home strip) otherwise he really will be looking over his shoulder. Ballance has to either be dropped or moved down the order for me. The batsman waiting to come in must be wondering how bad the pitch is - he makes batting look so difficult and it must mentally affect those watching.
fuchsntf Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Australians, have the knack to make every bowled ball an event.England batsman have no discipline or understanding how not to chase the ball, and have no feeling how to move or sway out of line, from high balls. Poor old bad habits, not showing character or basic discipline. They showed fear, and didnt fight against the shame.!!! Silly thing is, these players will shut off, forget their shame and most likely, turn up and play out of their skins... or they are finished for ever and cant play Johnson n The rest.. Let see...Its no use suggesting changes, because..same team for Edgbaston, Bayliss will prove to be a follower of fashion and not a changer of fashion..

Very true, it's like england bowlers hope they will get a wicket but the aussies know they're going to get a wicket.
Voll Blau Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Very true, it's like england bowlers hope they will get a wicket but the aussies know they're going to get a wicket. Just the same as any bowling attack with their tails up? England have the same mentality when scenting victory.
fuchsntf Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 Something, I dont want to hear any more, from Vaughn, Boycott even Bumble,....how hard the yorkshire-boys are.Ballance playing like rabbit caught in headlights, Root be decisive in each fast ball, attack or leave it, no mix feelings, Root is technically capable, but he needs to know and feel his decision before ball being bowled, these guys do think in split seconds, indecision, is roots major problem. Stokes even worried, sorry scared about being hit, not clever enough to defend his wicket, when running for that single, nor clever enough to put his bat down.Roses without thorns methinks. Bayliss has his job cut out, to get Bowlers like Broad and Wood, to put in bouncers, nearer to the Batsman, swing in yorkers. Anderson to put in some swinging Yorkers. Search for topline 1st choice spinner.give Rashid a chance hes the 1st name on the block, then move Moen up to 4th/5th Batsman partime spinner. Ballance still has an english future, but he needs to toughen up, collect his thoughts again at county level. My calls.. we have had a wobble, so lets see who is available...For me its ...give Hales his chance. Bell to move up and play n03, Root 4, Moen 5, Stokes 6. Rashid comes in.plays at either 6 or 7, but Butler has to be given free license (like prior, before), so he attacks from 6.No matter what the score. We have lost heavily, thats when you blood new players, and change line ups/positions. Use Broads batting with a bit more finess, just a tweek...yes attack always, but with better shot selection, and timing of which balls to leave.Remind him of his better batting days, when he was mentioned as a potential all rounder. This time if he gets runs, he still stays at n08. Stokes bowling still has to be 20% more fuller balls, wicket to wicket. In this series he and Wood attack Smiths stumps consistently, with the odd one outside or on pads.also back them always with fielder around the corner. Wood, we need his speed ,get him to use it. 4 over spells if need be, He and broad should be more aggressive, ofter. Cook has to realise, no more 9-10over spells. Try when England are fielding. Anderson 5-6max..1st Spell, so 2nd spell earlier. Broad.......4-5max enforcer 1st spell Wood........3-4max all spells.1st spell also enforcer Spinners..Rashid, Root, Moen. Rashid 6overs min 1st spell, Swap other 2 with 3-4over spells. Stokes, use sometimes in a 2 over spell after 8th over.Batsman will holdback 2nd guessing. Depending on all bowlers rythm, +2 overs per spell. After big losses, its the right time its prudent to change somethings,in both player selection, and bowling n fielding tactics.

fuchsntf Posted 19 July 2015 Posted 19 July 2015 ......what the fvck? Stokes is a Durham lad aswell i believe Actually he Stokes was born and bread in NZ, and Ballance is a SA.But our northern pundits place them in honary, lancs/yorksrole of honour.Plus I dont like York, Lancs lads shooting off how hovis eaters, and their mates are unique humanbeings, and gods chosen few. We all know from the middle shires....that New Parkers, and their western Park neighbours, The Braunstonites.....are of the angels bussom and the real gods chosen few. We can find a better rusty bikes and trolleys in our cut than thars.Motherspride make better chip sarnies as hovis. Not forgetting a pint of Tigers is better than Tetleys.
Captain... Posted 20 July 2015 Posted 20 July 2015 So what changes can be made? Lythe, Bell and Ballance are all under performing but we can't change all 3, can we? Bell I would keep as at least he made a ton for Warwickshire this Summer and the next test is at Edgbaston, Lythe also made a ton against New Zealand, but done fvck all else, Ballance has been poor for Yorkshire and England this summer and after a good start to his England career seems to have been found out. The problem is who to bring in. The form player at the moment is Bairstow, and it could even be argued he should replace Buttler who has been poor this series, but he is an aggressive middle order batsman and not an opener. If we brought in Bairstow we would be pushing Bell and Root up the order. The obvious alternative to partner Cook is Hales but his aggressive nature could backfire a quick fire 30 and out leaves our fragile 3 and 4 exposed to the new ball. If we are going to play this new brand of aggressive cricket then maybe this is the way to go, but maybe not in the middle of an ashes series. What has frustrated me is the dismissal of any opener after a bad series, Compton, Root, Carberry, Robson, Trott and now Lythe. We have had no coherent plan with building an opening partnership. Robson didn't have a bad summer last year and a winter working with the England batting coaches, a few lions games, the series in the West Indies and against New Zealand he would be in a much better position to face Australia now than Lythe who has 2 tests under his belt. I think we need to build a pool of talent with more experience and use series like the Windies, Bangladesh and use dead rubbers in series to allow players to bed in rather than throw them in at the deep end and hope for the best. I also think with the bowling we shouldn't be afraid to rotate our bowlers, especially when we have back to back tests on flat tracks bringing in Finn for Anderson for this last test could have given our attack some extra bite on a flat track. Whatever happens for the next test we will have either a very inexperienced batsmen in the top order or a couple of walking wickets or a combination of the 2 and that is no way to go into an Ashes test.
surrifox Posted 20 July 2015 Posted 20 July 2015 I'm going against the grain a bit by arguing that wholesale chopping and changing will not serve us well and that we are still at 1-1 and the players should be given a shot at redemption at least in the next test . Added to the humiliation of this defeat is that we cant even manufacture a pitch that suits the home side (you know like the Australians do every time they have a home series). I would actually back Broad and Anderson to out bowl the likes of Johnson and Starc on a green top as they are cleverer and don't just rely on banging it in.No-one played well in this match and pretty much everyone did their bit in Cardiff which finished a week earlier. I would not have selected Bell for the series as I think his reflexes are gone - he's late on everything and is also making costly mistakes fielding close to the wicket. Lyth and Balance are under pressure but what about Buttler ? He plays the limited over stuff better than anyone but is clearly not sure of his role in this side.Dont fall into the trap of wholesale changes at least until an assessment is made after the next test- lets face it there isn't exactly a queue round the block of brilliant county championship performers the stand out being Jonny bairstow who would logically displace Buttler from the side rather than say, Bell or Ballance
Guest MattP Posted 20 July 2015 Posted 20 July 2015 It's still 1-1, yes it was a shambles for most of this last test match but you don't just take everything apart after one defeat. Let's give them a chance to rectify it, I have to change the batting order around though to get the senior players involved quicker, we simply can't keep on ending up 30-3 every innings. Solitary change for me with Ballance making way for Bairstow although Bell, Lyth and Ali are in the last chance saloon in this match. Rashid tempts me as we are being told Edgbaston could be a turner but weakening the batting would be a big call after what we have just seen. Cook Lyth Bell Root Stokes Bairstow Buttler Ali Broad Wood Anderson
RowlattsFox Posted 20 July 2015 Posted 20 July 2015 If it's a potential spinner friendly wicket I'd be tempted to go with Ali and Rashid. Cook, Lyth, Root, Bell, Stokes, Ali, Buttler, Rashid, Broad, Wood, Anderson Root to 3, Stokes moves up 1 and Ali to 6. Not usually a fan of making so many changes to the line up/order but we need to break up the Lyth, Balance and Bell run as they all a walking wicket currently. Root has done well at 5 but he is good enough to bat at 3. Cook needs to take the first ball too, he puts the pressure right on Lyth from the first ball.
Fox_in_a_Box Posted 20 July 2015 Posted 20 July 2015 I don't like cricket.... Oh No that's it I really don't anymore.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 20 July 2015 Posted 20 July 2015 Ballance doesn't bat at 3 for Yorkshire. I would like to see him moved down the order. Bell or Root in at 3.
fuchsntf Posted 20 July 2015 Posted 20 July 2015 I am still in shock...no not because they lost, but that our cream of youngsters, allowed themselves to get into muddledmind syndrom, and allowed them into old traits, of chasing balls wide out off stump, or high bouncers that can be left alone. THIS GENERATION ALLOWED itself to be conned, just like the older generation. 103 collapsed,!!!?? I really do think we should of expected 280-360 fight out. If they feel depressed or down, let me kick them when they are down...they should. They let their fans and themselves down. The bowlers, our top bowlers and coaches also must be questioned on not showing flexabilty in deliveries.
