DennisNedry Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 The biggest problem with the atmosphere is the over 50s, women and kids. You can't exactly stop them going but they contribute **** all to the noise levels.
Arriba Los Zorros Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 Ipswich have been doing that have they? Still makes them a bunch of mugs whose top boy is the Suffolk Strangler. Ipswich are a decent bunch and a real club , don;t now what you're on about, comparing them with Brighton and Watford is a joke
SecretPro Posted 6 February 2015 Posted 6 February 2015 Ipswich are a decent bunch and a real club , don;t now what you're on about, comparing them with Brighton and Watford is a joke Bunch of tractor driving, cabbage eating murderers. J/K
PAULCFC Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 I'm 46 now and when i started going on my own (filbo) about 85,there wasn't any(or not many "familes") their. It used to be an escape for dad's and teenager's to get out of the house a bit! That i think is the differance now
HesNotGudjonsonn2 Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Bring back Cantona, he knows how to deal with Palace fans.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Great post, fully agree. These Fosse Boy/Union J types have got it in their heads that it's cool and trendy to wave a scarf around and make some queer noises to random European tunes and all they're achieving is making LCFC fanbase one of the most embarrassing in the league. Do we want to be viewed as a Palace, Brighton, Watford, Ipswich or Coventry or would you rather be seen as a Leeds, Sheff U, Luton, Stoke etc with proper fans who make an intimidating atmosphere? At Filbert Street it was the latter, here I'm afraid it's the former. If it wasn't for L and K blocks making some sort of a stand we would be the most embarrassing fans in the division. Fortunately Palace carry that mantel and we only have a small section in SK1 bringing that shit to Leicester. Oh yeah, having been to those grounds I pissed myself at the wall of silence. I was worried the lack of atmosphere might invert my lungs.
Guest Bilo Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 When you're quoting Leeds, Stoke, Sheffield United and Luton as prime examples of atmosphere, I would suggest you haven't been to many games since around 2001. Elland Road is an overpriced morgue, Bramall Lane is little better, even a Luton supporting friend of mine admits Kenilworth Road is a silent shithole and Stoke have the most overrated atmosphere around.

The most intimidating thing that happened the last time I was at Elland Road was some prepubescent in trackies throwing his Happy Meal at the coach. The last person to be intimidated at Kenilworth Road was wearing a full York City strip. Lord Snooty is clearly quite easily threatened.

HankMarvin Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 They are very creative tho https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cJpwJ_6-Di0
Haydos Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Copying chants you've seen the HF do on youtube is mongy in the extreme. Hope to fvck people don't join in with WLY when they inevitably start it. That said, you can't deny the effect the group has had on the rest of their fanbase over the past few years. Plus they throw a fair bit of decent original material into the mix, which is something we could do with more often. If the best we can cob back at them is "Are you Juve in disguise" or similar we really ought to be taking a look at our own fan culture rather than having a dig at theirs. Wait, so what? You're saying they're a bit shit but anyone else that tries is a bit shit also? Go ahead and do something your ****ing self if you're that great. Absolutely love how our fans are bang on knocking anyone that gives a shit and tries something a bit different but their own thoughts are worth more than anything any of the rest of the peasants have to offer.
Dan Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Or he meant that copying their songs just makes us look like utter no-marks. Snooty's post might have been relevant ten years ago. I can safely say on trips to every one of them (bar Luton which I've not been to) I have never felt remotely intimidated.
Soup Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Having a go at fans for jumping up and down,I've heard it all now.
Callabinho Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Haha, is this the depths to which this forum has fallen? Moaning about the Palace fans for actually enjoying themselves and making a bit of noise? Some of you need to realise there's more pressing issues to worry about than opposing fans match day etiquette. For instance, which condiment would best suite your Sunday lunch. And who are we to moan? The atmosphere at the KP, like most modern grounds is dross, everything about our match day experience is crap, from the music to the food. The modernisation of the game is destroying it, I think it's nice to see the palace make an effort.

Suppose you can't hear the away fans from your section on the other side of the fvcking ground! Leeds take the piss everywhere they go. Stoke hone atmosphere is good, fair enough was shit last two times we've gone (for them one was a meaningless cup game) but compare Leicester v Doncaster with half the fans booing a pitch invasion to Stoke away 2008, or go there when they're playing a Manc or Scouse side, and tell me our ground compares. Have you ever been in Luton Town centre on a big matchday? We're not quite as bad as the Watfords and Ipswichs of this world yet thanks to L/K block fans, but if you think we compare to Leeds and co you're clueless.

A designated ultra area, better food? and swap the kop for the family stand. It's not about the club or the stadium. How many people on this forum actually would start a chant in their area of the ground. I would, have and still do at the grand old age of 43. A football ground needs nothing more than a few fans (and players for that matter) that will stick their neck out for the club. Today there are fewer of these people in all grounds. Too many metrosexual men in the ground who are too self conscious. Real men don't give a shit. Blue Army.
C-man Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 I think HF are great. No group in England this century has had such a positive influence on their home support - that is an undeniable fact, whether you like their choice of songs or not. (That said, aside from WLY which is shite, how many other 'eurotrash' songs do they sing? Not many is the answer). They add colour to otherwise bland stadiums with their flags and tifos. That doesn't mean I want us to copy them but you'd have to be deaf to reckon they don't make a difference. I am convinced that without them last year they would've dropped - Pulis or not. For that I respect them. Still shit away from home though - we are far, far, far better in that regard.
Snooty Fox Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Typical of you lot to argue the toss that Ipswich have amazing fans or Stoke have shit fans rather than addressing the actual point that since we moved in 02 ours has been a joke.

It's weird.
davieG Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 I only remember it being good at filbo when we had a sustained level of success. There were plenty of times with 9k to 15k fans in there you could hear a pin drop. It may be crap now but let's not pretend it was always great before. What is missing more and more is the humour.
Unabomber Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Can we just stop the arguing for a while and make today the day it all finally comes together. I'm talking L1, the rest of the east stand, SK1, the kop, the corner bit, the west stand (even you rich boys) the other corner, the family stand. Let's make some noise and really intimidate the away fans while supporting the lads in a way which will blow everyone away.
Vlad the Fox Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 The biggest problem with the atmosphere is the over 50s, women and kids. You can't exactly stop them going but they contribute **** all to the noise levels. I think the biggest problem, modern and all seater stadia aside is possibly quite the opposite. Years ago very club would copy everyone else's chant, everyone sang here we go, a number of clubs sang you'll never walk alone. If it was a good one and catchy it would catch on and within weeks everyone was singing them. There was a few exceptions for localised chants that didn't spread but generally fans sang what they liked and no one gave a toss. Nowadays there is too much concern about being seen to be copying someone else, no one knows what anyone is singing because there is too much effort put into trying to be original. People talk about recreating the atmosphere of yesterday but they've got their whole ethos wrong, it was never seen as a cool or trendy thing, it was a group of supporters who went to the footy for a few beers and a laugh and to support their team, there was no air of pretention, none of these football hipsters that the premier league has spawned. I personally don't think palace are anything particularly special but hopefully they will be better than who we've had down here this season as the away support has been shocking at the KP. As for women and children, there were plenty at filbert street during the O'Neill years yet that didn't harm the atmosphere. In fact you could say it's the under 50’s that are to blame, it used to be that the youngsters would come and join their dads and take on the mantle bringing a continuation to the songs and atmospher, today's younger generation haven't taken up that mantle and that's why we are where we are today. 'Hey kids rock and roll, nobody tells you what to do'.
Bettsj2 Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 Its definitely the younger generation that is the problem. Seem more concerned with shouting abuse at the away fans, checking their accumulaters on their iPhones or going to the bar early rather than singing support. I remember standing in the kop at Filbert St and every game there was:- Sweet Molly Malone He's only a poor little (insert region) Get into em (fvck em up) (sometimes this would be chanted endlessly until a goal was scored Blue Army (where has this gone!!!) Gimme a D!!! Plus all of the individual player chants. The Leo chant this season is the first one in ages that people seemed to get carried away with. Thats what we need. And speaking of the individual player chants, i'm probably alone in this but I bloody hate hearing the 'Iwan is a Welshman' chant. He was a good player for us but not a club legend by any stretch. Certainly not deserving of singing his name 20 years after he left.
Guest MattP Posted 7 February 2015 Posted 7 February 2015 lot of clubs are PDC away and BDO at home. What a brilliant quote
